I remember the 1st time I took St John's wort before I went to work. First time ever I went in with a smile on my face. Also used it to keep me calm while trying to quit smoking using the patch. Been smoke free for 3 years now. : - )
I use St John’s Wort for a nerve condition in my feet called Morton’s Neuroma. It’s a knot of nerve at the base of your toes. It can be quite painful and debilitating. I use the infused oil as a massage and I spray the tincture that I made on the area also. With this and other techniques I’ve been able to regress the issue and stay out of pain.
I love it, I have some growing in my yard and one of my earliest videos in like 2013 I think was picking it in New York. This plant grows in fields on the beach in California watered only by ocean waves and in gravel and cracks in parking lots and seems not to care if its growing in any form of sand or rock or garden soil and grows the same regardless. That's an awesome feature, remember this if you plant some. Throw some rocks and sand in because it likes that and you will spend less money on soil.

I love St. Johns Wort, my Mom and Mamaw used this throughout my childhood and until they passed. Medicine from the land has been used for thousands of years. Great video, very informative! Thank you! And I do have a question. What is your most commonly used natural medicine you harvest and use, and why do you use it?
@@TheWildYam I'll look into that! I have eczema on my hands, and nothing really helps except prescription steroid ointments which can actually make it worse after time.
Using the fresh or wilted flowers, the shelf life is shorter than with using dried flowers in the oil. The shelf life is prolonged in the fridge. Many say it lasts a year in cool storage out of direct sunlight. I would use mine a few weeks after it's ready since I used fresh flowers.
Sorry but using fresh plants oil and sun will cause you oil to spoil bc of the water in the plant. Let them dry for a day or it will be a very expensive lesson
Good point. Using the fresh flower or slightly wilted flowers has more of the medicinal compents in the oil. Yes, it does lead to a shorter shelf life as a trade off. For longer term storage, I agree it is better to use dried flowers. Happy foraging!
As you said in the video, please please please don't ingest St Johns Wort before speaking with a pharmacist or family doctor! The drug interacts with many different medications and can induce problems like serotonin syndrome (a potentially fatal complication) if you attempt to take it with other antidepressants.
