I love the way you explain it methodically, first in a scientific way then in lay men’s words. It’s very educational that way. I have been using thiamin e for a few years now, 2x 250 mg, breakfast and lunch. I had chronic fatigue. It helps me through the day. When I don’t take it, or not enough I need a nap in the early afternoon.Recently my functional doctor advised me to add B3 to what I already take ( it’s a lot, high dose b12 shots, 10 mg a week, vit b co-enzymes complex, vit a, D, c, zinc, magnesium, selenium and what else I forget to mention). I don’t like the flush I get from niacin so I took nicotinamide. High doses as well,and it cured my gum disease and a lot of food allergies and intolerances. But then I tried niacin flush free. I take one capsule instead of four of 250 mg of the nicotinamide and feel much more energetic. Gum disease is now completely gone. No plaques of tartar it seems, and I had it a lot. B-vitamins work in conjunction and to me they are all important for energy levels. No regular doctor ever told me I needed b12 shots, I had to find that myself and ask for a test AND find out what the levels should be. I pay for it myself. It’s incredible how much we pay for pills and therapies that are downright destructive through insurance. The real cure you have to find, buy, and pay for outside of insurance. I do prefer to take care of my own health. I thrive on it.

That is fantastic! One thing I'm finding amazing in my current exploration of the B vitamins, is that if they are going to help something (or make it worse), it will happen fairly quickly, so you know right away. Have you hypothesized why? I wonder if it has something to do with activating the parasympathetic NS, by increasing acetylcholine. I think this is a huge potential the Bs - particularly B5 and B1 have - they increase it's production, and there aren't a lot of ways to increase parasympathetic tone, so we mainly focus on decreasing the sympathetic NS. But this would be a way to actually influence it, which is cool. That would decrease the BP. Just rambling.

I think you should mention alcohol's relationship with thiamine deficiency. Alcohol is a carbohydrate which depletes thiamine and it also *greatly* inhibits the body's ability to absorb thiamine, so anyone who drinks a lot or binge drinks (most of the UK population) is at great risk of thiamine deficiency which will eventually cause damage to the body, and is not rectified by adequate levels of thiamine in the diet. I think this is a major reason why so many people find benefit from megadose thiamine supplementation. I would be interested to hear what kind of dose you think would be appropriate to correct alcohol-induced thiamine deficiency. In people with alcohol misuse disorder thiamine deficiency can even lead to something called Wernicke's encephalopathy, which causes lesions in the brain and neurodegeneration, and which can be reversed by megadoses of thiamin or intravenous thiamine.
@bbsaid218
@bbsaid218 2 года назад
Also, I think red wine and some ciders contains sulphites, which also deplete B1. Funny how this is never mentioned on the label.

Yep, when B1 is deficient in an alcoholic individual they end up with Wernicke - Korsakoff Syndrome . I was malnourished 5 1/2 years ago from some intestinal problems I ended up getting B1 deficient and then got Acquired Nystagmus which is a side effect from B1 deficiency, which is not a fun condition to say the least.

This effect seems very similar to how potassium bromate (bromate) added to flour to improve baked goods, poisons people by blocking Potassium Iodin receptors on cells and if you take a similar large amount of Potassium Iodin it can flush away or wash away the bromate blocking the receptors. So there is probably a toxin blocking Thiamine receptors that can be flushed away with large amounts of Thiamine clearing the receptors and restoring there function.

Thank you. I feel a new hope today. I have been working for years on fatigue and brain fog. I solved the fibromyalgia and arthritis but those other two symptoms never budge. I have felt that some anesthesia "broke something" in my body but no one has ever suggested what, or even if that concept is valid. By broken, I mean that no matter how I worked on nutrition, detox, etc, something couldn't ''connect''. As in I could put all the gas into the tank that I wanted, but the engine wouldn't run. I feel like what is described here is what I have instinctively felt is wrong with my body. Thiamine may not turn out to be my answer, but I think I see now how something could indeed be broken in my processes. This is fascinating. It begs the question of just how many people could benefit in some shape or form from megadosing thiamine or other nutrients like it (perhaps not necessarily “mega”-dosing in every case), considering how many people could be considered to have accrued “injury” or metabolic damage in the past, or inherited dysfunctional mitochondria from their mother, etc.

So I just came across this because I literally just figured out the root cause of my neurological issues that I have had since getting out of the military. I had a Brain MRI and my neurologist noticed the lighting up of my mood center and told me that he usually sees that with Wernickes. I showed low normal in my lab work after he ordered it. But I was having gaze nystagmus, neuropathy, and episodic dizziness. I went out and bought 100mg Thiamine tablets and started taking 200mg twice daily. Well, my symptoms have completely waned. And another issue I didn’t realize I had was my anxiety completely ceased. I’m not sure of why this happened to me. I’m not a heavy drinker and actually workout 5-6 days a week. I even took a B complex. Thanks for your video.

That's a good question. HCL is quite different than the TTFD forms, and they both work in different areas of the body. my experience is that TTFD contributes to the brain function, while Benfotiamine works with neuropathy. HCL is not that efficient, but many prefer this form. Suits best as the first thiamine you take, and then proceed to TTFD or Benfo. When it comes to doses, this is a question of trial and error. We are all different, have different needs/issues.

@@terigarrison I've been taking it for over two years and I haven't had any problems. I started taking it every other night, after getting a stress test and failing it badly. Six months earlier I was running, lifting weights, tennis and the likes. Then all of a sudden I couldn't get off the couch. My stupid doctor told me I was just out of shape. I was 5'4 120 at the time so I knew that wasn't the case. I'm a land lord and one of my units flooded which is where I think I got the mold. My symptoms started after that. I was very weak and my heart rate would suddenly go from 70 beats a minute up to 190. I had the turpentine for 5 years afraid to use it, because I thought it was insane. I decided to try it out of desperation and figured since I was slowly dying anyway I figured what the hell. I took it and the next day my heart didn't race as often or get as high. In less than two weeks my heart rate was back to normal and have been since. I was SHOCKED at the amount of parasites that can out of me as well, which was a added bonus. Ray Peat, Matt Blackburn, check out Methylene Blue, Magnesium (required for over 3700 enzymatic processes.) There is a fair amount of legitimately foundational minerals and supplements that are game changing and they are being slept on. There is alternative medicine and there is alternative-alternative. I agree with you absolutely, and supplementation may be necessary. Ideally we get what we need from food, but maybe it's not possible. The negative side is that the supplements themselves have fillers, etc. I know I was only able to get my vitamin D level to optimal with supplements, for example. Since I've delved into researching. In the U.S., the dietary requirements, and lab values are not really that meaningful. They are more like - 'you won't have scurvy"., not this will be enough to make you healthy. What mainstream medicine considers "normal" , might mean you aren't dying, but still might not be an optimal level (and it is also individual). I was told my Vit D level of 37 ng/ul is NORMAL, so I'm fine. However, I believe that level of determined based on what is needed for bone, and now we know vit D does a whole lot more; and a level of 60-80 is needed to get healthy sleep and repair your gut microbiome. Also, mainstream medicine considers my B12 level of 250 to be "normal" , but my more wholistic minded dr says 500 minimum to feel decent. SO , just 2 examples of areas where I can really benefit from supplementation (and would not be able to increase those with food) - and I believe these alone will make me feel a lot better. I never would have known had I not ventured away from allopathic medicine. And these are cheap, easy things to do. Very nerdy (I am :) ), but I just found this paper in Nature, about the TTFD increasing dopamine production in the pre-frontal cortex. I knew it worked on the dopa in the striatum, which is affected in Parkinson's. Dopamine in the PFC is associated with motivation, this is how amphetamine acts. Seems like the TTFD worked a bit like a little meth for these rats, without the negative effects, I'm very excited to see if it can do that for me! www.nature.com/articles/s41598-018-28462-2

@oliviad6713 2 года назад
@@stephen3654 I took the brand of thiamine that Elliot sells for a month and did not notice any change. I might not have the type of problems that people seem to report being helped by high dose thiamine - seems to be Parkinson's Disease and other neurological diseases. I was hoping to perhaps notice an increase in energy - but did not. I don't remember the exact dose I went up to, but I did increase it every week, above the standard dose suggested on the product. I am not saying anything negative about the product at all - so do not misunderstand, just that it didn't do what I had hoped. I think we are all very different, metabolism is so complicated and there is no one size fits all. I continue to take vitamin D, a B vitamin supplement, and extra B12 because my levels were low for B12 and D. It is always hard to know if things are helping or not - I might feel worse if I didn't take them. I did have my Vit D level checked last year during the winter and it was good - 69, so the supplements raised it, however; I didn't feel any better. I don't know if my B12 level is better. It is hard to know with something like thiamine because there is no way to measure it, so you can only go by how you feel. After reading through the comments again, I could go back and try a higher dose, or just regular thiamine as some folks here have. I try to just do one thing at a time to know what is working (or not). I hate swallowing pills - even supplements. If I don't see results within a couple of weeks to a month at the most, I don't continue. My theory is if something is going to help, I should notice it very soon. I admit to being envious of people who write about taking a particular supplement and finding a dramatic effect :). So far, nothing has helped my severe headaches and fatigue. Back to the drawing board.

Hi Olivia, I found your original post - and answer to Stephen (below, about 5 months ago) - very helpful. Thanks for sharing it. On a somewhat separate, but possibly related, supplement matters question, below is something that I replied to someone else (on this Comment board). The part about Glutathione is what I think you'd likely be most interested in. It's an expensive supplement, if taken in Liposomal form, and from the best companies (of which there are very few, it seems). But it might be a profound energy booster, and/or help some people through a particularly tough health challenge, I believe. ~ Now, here's what I asked another smart-seeming person, elsewhere on this Comment board: "I fully agree on some of your points (esp. the taking of calcium and iron supplements), and honestly can't comprehend some of the other.
