In this video, i'm diagnosing a intermittently working EIS (Electronic Ignition Switch) for a client.
Do you suspect that your EIS is malfunctioning? Not sure if it's a bad key, bad steering lock or a bad key?
I can diagnose the problem with the DAS (Drive Authorization System) and provide a solution.
If you have an intermittent or a permanent no key recognition happening on your 2008-2012 ML GL or R class Mercedes. You most likely have a bad connector inside your EIS. I can repair this issue.
If you have a 2008-2014 Mercedes C250 C300 C350 or C63 and you have no dash lights when you put the key in and turn it 2 times to "ignition two" you may have a faulty ESL (Electronic Steering Lock). I can program an emulator to permanently fix this issue.

Michael is very professional. If you need a key, he’s your guy. I ordered a key from him, price is very reasonable and he’s very fast. Highly recommended!

There is a video of what is wrong with mercedes ignition switches. Happened to me. Its the four mechanical contacts when you take the board off. You just bend them slightly and solder the board back. Very common. Extremely difficult to diagnose and produces intermittent problems like shutting down of the engine for less than a second every now and then.

I think you've nailed it there but I can't get anyone to listen to me and I don't trust myself with a soldering iron around things like this. The auto locksmiths just plug it into a diagnostics machine, wait for it to say there are no faults then tell me my car's perfect. It's most annoying.

@@samanthagames1023 the only other alternative is to buy a used one for £20 but then you have to pay reprogramming.

1999 e300 TD. Key would go in and intermittently lock out at insertion position. Couple of inserts or jiggles Ana’s it would go through the next few positions and start. Then it completely stopped working. Got a duplicate key and it would cycle the positions then the car would crank Ana not start. While trying to diagnose that the duplicate key now also is locked in initial insertion position. Steering stats unlocked 😢

I have an e200cdi -00. Car starts normally but sometimes when turning key it won’t come out and the engine keeps running. Radio dies also. Already changed replacement eis+ecu and car was working normally but now after 6months the same problem is back😫

I have done a ton of troubleshooting and I believe it's the EIS. I don't have an extra key to try. I saw you offered to diagnose it. Can you diagnose and fix it if that's my problem?

Hi does the ignition switch also tell certain instruments when to stay on and go off. the reason i ask is before i lost my keys, I was having a problem with parasitic drains on my battery thus i want to know if i should replace both the key and the switch.

Yes the EIS does wake up several modules. But that’s not enough to warrant a replacement of the EIS as it is an expensive replacement. There is a good video by Chrisfix on how to find a parasitic draw. ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-n5FJDgcdii8.html

What’s better the Vvdi tool or the cgdi mb key tool , what gives better bang for buck, i am interested in programming both Mercedes eis , esl and keys and bmw CAS both read and write functions for bcm and keys

VVDI is easy to learn and use. GCDI has a steeper learning curve, but it is more powerful. VVDI is also less expensive.

@@mercedesbenzspecialist I don’t about that , I’m finding the CGDI mb device for only around 600 euros , however the vvdi mb or bmw is around 700-900 so I’ve decided to just buy a AUTEL Im508 and xp400 pro for £1500 which has thousands of cars to do programming and eeprom work better all rounder and very user friendly , in fact a few key modules I’ve recently programmed for Mercedes w906 and bmw CAS3 have all been straight through OBD no need to solder wires and connect lap tops anymore : ) until somebody loses keys again

I have a 2006 cl55 amg car was slowly taking more try’s to start car. Then yesterday went to put key in and no lights come on it’s like no key is in ignition I can turn the key but it makes no sound at all. If you have any idea why that may be I’d appreciate it

Also all the lights come on. Emergency lights headlights and they are bright battery is 2 months old. Asides from the key turning it’s as if no key is inside gets no response and when I crank to start position it does not click or make any sound at all

Battery is good. Ok that’s the first check. After checking to see if your EIS fuse is good, and checking for power and ground at the EIS. We can assume it’s either a bad key or a bad EIS. After checking the above ☝️ You can send us your EIS and key to get it sorted. mercedesbenzspecialist.net/shop

I have a 2010 E350 w212. I have power. The hazard lights come on. We bumped the starter and know it's good. The key won't unlock/lock the doors, or trunk. However, The panic button still works. Stick the key in and nothing happens. The switch will turn to different positions but no indicator lights. I removed the EIS module and am trying to ascertain the next most cost-effective step. Do you have any suggestions, please?

It may be a bad key. Even though the RF function is working for the trunk. The IR function (starting the car) may have malfunctioned. The cost of a new key is 3-5 times less than the cost of replacing your EIS with a used cloned EIS. 10 times less than getting a new EIS from the dealership. Send me your EIS and key. The issue with my 2013 GLK 4Matic is the car is throwing itself into Park from 0 to 3 miles and its intermittent. After the car been sitting for a while it goes away it does not do it al the time and the MB forums are saying its the EIS module are you aware of this issue before I pull the part? Thanks

I don't know whether someone's already said this but if you're going to replace the switch you will have to clone the original otherwise it won't work on that car. Why are cars so complicated? 😡

Can a bad key can prevent the car from starting even though it goes to position 1 and 2 and the radio/dash lights come up ?

No. If you have red and yellow dash lights on. You are past the drive authorization from the key. Next you look at battery voltage, the starter fuse and relay, the starter itself, and finally the ground signal coming from the ECM. I have a video on how to check if your ECM is sending a ground signal to your starter relay. My auto electrician said they can’t get the data from my EIS to clone onto another one with the same part number. They have told me I have to get a new EIS from Mercedes and they will be able to programme it to my car. Is this right? Why can’t they just reprogram the replacement I bought? Why can’t they get the data off my original EIS ? Please help, thank you.

They most likely don’t have the tools required to erase a used unit. They are probably using Mercedes Xentry/DAS. They cannot virginize a used switch with Xentry. I don’t know the condition of your EIS. I can’t tell you why they can’t get the data from it. What year and model is your Mercedes?

I've got this same intermittent problem. It's been scanned twice with two different diagnostics tools and on both occasions no faults were found. In the last week the engine has cut out around five times and on one occasion it took me 5 minutes to get any life from the ignition when the key was turned. The rest of the time the car has been fine. What happens if the ignition fails whilst you're driving at high speed going round a bend though? DISASTER. Any advice please? it's a 2008 CLK. I think it's a faulty EIS but can't get anyone to listen to me because the diagnostics tool isn't flagging up any faults.

Hi. The engine turning off while driving (I know.. scary). Is usually caused by either a faulty Engine Control Module (ECM) or a faulty Electronic Ignition Switch (EIS). You said it took you 5 minutes to get any life from the ignition. Does that mean, absolutely no response when you inserted key into the Electronic Ignition Switch (EIS)? No audible "ding", no change in message from the instrument cluster? I believe your CLK has a Electronic Steering Lock (ESL). When you inserted the key did the ESL unlock? Or did the steering wheel remain locked? When you turned the key two full clicks to the right. That's the position in the EIS just before the crank position. Did you have red and yellow dash lights on the instrument cluster? If so, did you get a no crank when turning the key to the crank position? Answers to these questions will help narrow down the issue you are experiencing. -Michael 818 510 3375

@@mercedesbenzspecialist Thanks for the reply. In this case no response means no noise from a starter motor or clicking from relays. I'm not sure whether the steering lock made a sound or whether the lights on the panel were all out because I've only had the car a few days and I was a too shocked to make a point of checking but I expect all the lights were off because there were no signs of life in terms of a response from turning the key. I've been trying to recreate it ever since but all I've experienced so far today is the engine cutting out whilst idling - which for a diesel car is extremely rare without an ignition fault (or I suppose a fuel supply fault ) but that would show up on the diagnostic checks wouldn't it?

@@samanthagames1023 Ok so nothing from the starter rules out a fuel supply issue. If you have no dash lights when you get a no crank, you're looking at a Drive Authorization System (DAS) problem. That's gonna be the EIS, or key in your situation. If you have red and yellow dash lights but no crank, you're likely dealing with a ECM issue.

@@mercedesbenzspecialist Obviously I know it's not a fuel problem and as I said in my original comment I think it's the EIS. But what you said about the red and yellow lights is helpful because if it was the EIS there would be no lights on at all would there? I hope it's not the ECM because that sounds like more expense than the car's worth. Thanks very much.

@@samanthagames1023 it’s expensive if you go to the dealership. We charge $250 for ecm programming. Plus the cost of the used donor unit.

There's a broken connector inside of it you need to solder the wires I guess two broken wires out of 4 right now that's why you can only do 1 orientation

@@RyanONeill-fh3xl Yes I got it to work before the emulator you're using is older style the new one looks exactly like the old steering actuator and it works right away once you copy the data but it seems it's an EIS issue

Hey boss. I have a 2004 s500 base model 220k miles . First notice the problem when it was cold out took a bout 5-15 for the car to read the key or vice versa . This week it rained and yea I couldn’t start my car all day. I had someone come out he tried to reprogram the key once connected it erased all the keys on the system eventually he told me that it was a bad eis . Would You be able to help ?
