Only thing I want to add is, when he is pulling the pin, he puts a bolt inside the pin and tightens it to pull it out. But it is hard to find a good length bolt. And if doesn't have enough thread attached it will brake like it happened to him. Can become a nightmare. İnstead, find a much longer bolt and put it all the way in but have a nut on the bolt. Once the bolt is o All the way in pin tighten the nut and make it touch to the face of the cover. Than hold the bolt and tighten the nutso it pulls the pin out

Hi, great video 👍 Just wondering if you or anyone watching knows the tightening torque of the E11 bolts that bolt down the camshaft cover & also the toque for the timing chain tensioner? In the middle of finishing off 1 & can't find them anywhere 🤦🏽‍♂️

Hey mate, sorry for the late reply. I don't know them off the top of my head but I recommend you purchase a workshop manual. It will have the information you need.

Anyone know if it’s possible to adjust the rocker clearance, one of mine is tapping when it’s cold and thought it was a follower but looking at the video it seems to have a form of rocker assembly. Anyone have any info regarding the adjustment.

By far the best instruction video I have seen, I am in Perth and just staring work on my C180 Komp. My chian stretched way too far and I am fairly sure it has bent valves, I dont see any piston damage using endoscope camera through the spark plug holes looking inside the cylinders. But am fairly certain I need to at least pull the head off, and replace valves. Did you skim the head before putting it back in? I get mixed input from forums, some say skim it, other say dont.

Thanks for the kind words! Sorry to hear about your motor, but no I didn’t slim the head, just made sure to clean it really well and reinstalled. There was no damage to my mating surfaces and the car doesn’t get driven hard so there was no need imo.

@@FuryGarage Do you have the torque settings for the cylinder head bolts? I am almost done with mine, just ready to put it all back up togather
@FuryGarage

Starting in the middle and working your way out to evenly torque down the head, the torque settings for the M271 from the haynes manual I used are as follows: Stage 1 - 45NM. Stage 2 - 90 degrees. Stage 3 - 90 degrees. Good luck mate!

Eric Evans I think I found it on eBay? I can’t remember to be honest. The book wasn’t the best but it was enough to get the job done.

As I was typing regarding the oring for the thermostat. You just said that you found it haha Would have been the Oring for the thermostat for sure bro. That would leak the coolant straight into the timing chain housing.

Hi ! I have a c180 2004 and i had a problem starting it ! Well i changed 2 cam gears, chain ( the old one was streched and had jumped , thats why it was not starting ( i guess ) the engine turns over but has no spark ( its like a no compression ) Do you think i have bent valves? I have to take the head of right? Im Flucked
@FuryGarage
@FuryGarage 2 года назад
It sounds like bent valves but I can’t be certain. Maybe a bore scope or a compression test is a good starting point. Good luck!

Very helpful video thanks. I'm trying to get a feel for how long it should take a pro who's familiar with Mercedes & who has a well equipped workshop, to strip a similar engine down to get access to the valve stems, replace the valve stem oil seals, then put everything back together. Doing my research before asking round for quotes later this week. I'm guessing an 8 hour day for disassembly, then another 8 hour day for reassembly, should be doable? Am I being reasonable?
@FuryGarage
@FuryGarage Год назад
Hi, thanks for the comment, as I am not a professional Mercedes mechanic with a well equipped workshop it took me maybe 4/5 days to do this job start to finish figuring it all out along the way. So presuming the technician has done the job before and there are no major unforeseen issues, I don't see why the removal of the head and the refitting will take longer than two 8 hour days. However, I have nothing to add for how long it would take to replace the valve stem seals. Additionally, all of my above estimations are based on my own very limited experience and may be completely wrong. I hope this helps.

Just checked with the Mercedes accredited garage - he said he'd really want to take the head off, wouldn't be happy trying to shortcut by leaving the head on and doing the put-rope-inside-the-cylinders trick to keep the valves up while refitting the seals like I'd hoped. Even so he was happy to agree 2 days should see it done. He did suggest though, maybe my engine's smoking on startup not because of valve seals, but because of worn turbo bearings, which would be a bit quicker to fix. I understand most of the M271's had superchargers but mine's one of the later ones they did put a turbo on instead. He said he's never seen a M271 that needed valve stem oil seals, guess that's a good sign. Anyway you're a star for making the vid. Nice 1 thanks :)

Hey mate, I had water in the oil and oil in the water. But it turned out I didn’t have a blow head gasket. I actually had a broken oil cooler which is integrated into the oil filter housing and it allowed the Coolant and oil to mix. If you want to know if your head gasket is blown, try a compression check and a coolant system pressure check too. They will help you determine in you’ve got a blown head gasket.

Hello, I change my M271 engine in my C200 2008 Mercedes(W204) because it had skip timing and damage the valves. I now have in a M271 but with different engine number the first six numbers on this engine is 271948 and my original engine number is 271950. Now the car will start but when put in drive gear or reverse there is no pedal response however when in park the car has pedal response and will rev. Can you tell me what's causing this issue??
@FuryGarage
@FuryGarage 4 года назад
Craig Hitchman sorry mate, I have no idea. Best to speak to a mechanic who can hook it up to a diagnostic tool. They should be able to figure out the issue.

I need to change the head gasket on my 2012 C250 I have oil seeping out never changed one how hard is it
@FuryGarage
@FuryGarage 5 лет назад
I have never worked on a 2012 Mercedes. However the general process won’t be too different from the one depicted in my videos. If you have never done a head gasket before then I would advise against it. If you must do it then get an experienced friend to help. Failing all of that do as much research as possible and triple check everything you do. If you make a mistake with the timing change you can destroy your whole engine as a consequence of a potential mistake. So again I recommend you do not do this job yourself.

Fury Garage that’s what I been doing research I have done moany things but never a head gasket and I can’t find a manual for it I have the same engine m271 evo but mine is 1.8 turbo

Elias Hernandez if it’s an m271 then it should be fairly close to what I have done in these videos. You can also try this workshop manual: haynes.com/en-au/mercedes-benz/c-class/2007-2014 Other than that there’s not much more I can help you with. Just be extra cautious with the timing and cams.

Question: why is it so important that the timing chain not jump a tooth?
@FuryGarage
@FuryGarage 4 года назад
Justin Klazinga if it jumps a tooth the valves will be out of sync with the pistons. The pistons will then hit the valves and bend them. This will likely destroy most of the engine. This is not the case with all engines but is apparently very common with this specific engine
@JustinKlazinga
@JustinKlazinga 4 года назад
@@FuryGarage isn't there a marking on the harmonic balancer indicating TDC so you can align the cam phasers and the pistons?
@FuryGarage
@FuryGarage 4 года назад
Justin Klazinga yes there is, but this was the first time I had done any work on the timing system of this type of engine so I was a bit nervous. Thankfully it worked out just fine in the end.

If is a C class sedan is W203, if is CLK coupe/convertible is W209 . Unfortunately I cannot see well the model because both have the same engine M271 and engine compartment. However from the headlights look this is a C W203.
