@@jaymills7305 mostly older parts which needed replacement. No rust at all. Front abc struts and new pump. And then normal parts like brake discs etc, normal maintance.
Everyone should own a V12 biturbo car in their lifetime. W220 S65 is the best sedan I’ve ever owned. Not as expensive to maintenance as you would think if your realistic with your expectations.
Lol how long have you owned one? You work on it yourself? I absolutely loved the car and want to get a 2016+. We sold our 06 for 4k. Probably one of the highest mileage examples. Had 170k. Constant ABC issues with expensive coil packs
@@pete538 I sold it last year on BaT video link here “ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-6ylWCvIlLn0.html”. I truly miss this vehicle. If your mechanically inclined maintenance can be done yourself.
I had this exact car a "long" time ago..... What an absolute beauty it was. Its exhaust note was amazing as well. I can remember every time valet would drive away with it and what it sounded like from the outside...... I still remember that every single bit you pushed down the accelerator, you felt every single bit of it push you back more and more into the seat. The car felt like a driving a huge heavy boat honestly but smooth it definitely was... As for the day I sold it, what a sad day that was. But it was time to move on from its expensive uptake and parts failures / maintenance. Worst comment I ever received was from my Mercedes dealership one day telling me it was nothing more than a money pit. I will never forget about... wish I could post pics! I'll try to upload whatever videos I can find to my feed.
I copped a w221 s65 last year and it was one of the best car purchases I've ever made. Incredibly smooth performance. And doesn't get noticed on the road which I love
Thanks to AMG Meister to produce this video on one of our cars. As the co-founder of AMG of Canada. We do get some pretty special Mercedes-Benz through our doors. Perhaps in the future we will have more cars to show.
Have lusted after this vehicle since it's introduction.....very well done review! I keep looking for the right spec and think you have found it with this example!....I currently enjoy a 1996 W140 S600 as my daily driver (80K miles) and would be blessed to walk out into my garage and find the W220 parked next to my W140.
I love these videos. Long time follower. They're so calming and informative and I also love the way you treat these cars, meaning as low profile and stock as possible - clean. I am still waiting for some W221 content, maybe some sneak peak into something along those lines? :)
Hello.!!! Thank you so much for your informative and awesome videos. As an automotive technician of german cars, your videos are supremely helpful and informative for me. Sorry, i wanted to suggest something, the W220 is a great platform, but please also make a video about W221 and W222, because they are much more modern and interesting to know about. The Technology and technical data and differences in each year since it's made and the models, is very essential for me and Mercedes lovers, to know about. By the way, all of your videos are just so interesting and engrossing to watch, and i watch each of them, with a lot of interest and excitement. Keep up these awesome and great videos, and thank you so much Mr.AMGMEISTER.!!!
Great video. This is a car that not many people now about. I owned a W220 S65 for a year, and it was the best! Was I broke afterwards? Yes. But I was happy and broke. This had been a dream car of mine for years! Mine had a TV in the back, which was cool. It didn’t have the distronic cruise control, or the keyless go, which I would have loved
Nice review. The W220 has aged well. The one you’re reviewing looks to be in excellent condition. I am still amazed by the power, performance, and luxury the W220 AMG offers. My 3rd favorite AMG after the W221 and the W222.
The styling has aged well. Unfortunately the components they were built with do not age so well. Complicated cars built with brittle components. Great cars to buy or lease new and dump when the warranty is up. Ask me how I know.
@@adv647 I remember renting it from my local blockbuster back in May 1999. I used to record the footage from all the games that I rented. I remember ppl were like "Why would you waste a VHS on a video game?" Fast forward time... Let's plays are the biggest things on RU-vid 😃
Hi AMGmeister. Thank you for this informative upload! I had been searching for years regarding the production number of the W220 S65 and now I got it! :) Only 630... wow.... It feels great having a somewhat rare car in the garage! There can't be many left tho, specially in mint condition. Mine is a 2005 with just 39000 miles on it. Man, what a car! They really made a monster of a machine that left Audi and BMW to drop their jaws! PS: I believe it's 6 piston calipers in the front, not 8.
@@AMGmeister Thanks for reply. OK, but I could sworn that I saw 6 pistons when I had my rotors and pads changed at my AMG center.... then again, maybe it was 8... it was 5 years ago, I could be wrong. Anyway... really appreciate your take on this car, there aren't many vids with this car, so any recent vid is a joy to watch!
@@mikealanzo I have a 2003 S55 that I changed my front pads on a coulple of months ago, and they were 8 piston and 4 pads per front wheel. They are monsters and stop my heavy car very quickly.
Thank you for the detailed review, quick question what's the source of that short video clip that was added to your video where an S, a CL and an SL compete on a race track?
I am loving your channel so far. I had just turned up to check out tips and guides on the W210 E55 & C203 C55 and here I am looking at this beauty of a W220 ! I never knew they were that rare tbh even though given their price tags... nevertheless this is not only informative and cool but truly entertaining to watch. Always been a BMW man but this is great mate - thanks for the upload 👍🏽! PS : where did you get that footage from the SL, CL & S AMG dogfighting on the track at 1:44 ? That is some excellent & rare footage!!! 😃
Great content. What video editing software are you using? I like the color grades you use a lot. I'd like to do something similar in my E63 AMG videos.
Another nicely done video! 👌 where can I get the Mercedes Club of America sticker? I was looking for it on your website but could not find it. Also, I think it’s time for some W211 E63 content.
I love the S65, I recently passed on buying one. Having previously owned a 2004 E55, I would rather have the E55 as a daily driver, cheaper to run/repair, capable of producing more than enough power. Maintaining that 15 year old turbo V12 steered me away.
Very well done review! I have a 2005 S65 AMG L with 40K miles on it. The only problem with it have been changing the volt converter. It cost $600 for a refurbished ones, and changed it myself, took 10 min. The beat MB in my opinion. Wouldn't buy any other MB, and there will never be one like it!
Mine did needed to change the ignition box on top of the engine. The RPM's started to live own life and there were small cut offs where engine shut "down" very very vastly. But not fast enough to give error code. Also there needed to disasemble the engine to get to change the oil cooler? Small black plastic piece at the back of the engine completely near the driver. Expensive working hours. And then at the high speeds the ABC unit flashed a red warning light and beeped very fast on bumps on the road. I did install new tandem pump, but not sure yet did the problem go away completely. Otherwise it really is stunnishing car.
Excelente video...as a Mercedes S 500 myself...I can hopefully one day upgrade and be a proud owner of one these amazing and perfectly balanced automobile..
Damm, I am loving the E55Amg but now the S55 Amg has my eye. We need a comparison please. Well not buy one until vid comes out. P.S. Money has nothing to do with it am just broke
E55 is gonna be more reliable and faster s55 suffers from its ABC hydraulic suspension there known to fail and when they do could cost thousands of dollars in repair
The s55 has a wildly better sump design and cooling system, it is the best m113k platform in my opinion (comfy ride when abc works and really benefits from the power)
It will be if you buy one with 200,000 miles and not taken care of. But an example with 40,000 miles that was always taken care of will not be terrifying.
@@bernardwarr4187 i agree with you, Bernard. It is so much car for the money. Even if you had to put 10k into it initially, its still a lot of car for the money. My agreement was maintenance is terrifying and I will stand by that. For people who dont work on their own vehicle, good luck. He quoted rotors at $1000.00? Find me a mercedes dealership that is going to quote that on a S65. The ABC which will eventually fail will cost so much money it will make you faint. @amgmeister does his own work which cut the costs in half. By the way, I am an AMG owner not someone sitting on the sidelines assuming. Avoid ABC cars unless you like throwing money in the toilet!!!
