Thank you SO much for this video! I have exactly the same symptoms with my boat. Power trim works, but nothing else happens when i turn the key. No gauges light up, no engine cranking.. nothing. I called a marine tech and described the situation and they said I may need a new starter motor for $250 plus $200 for labor (so total of $450). I'm really hoping that I just need to change this fuse! Thanks again for sharing!
I was about to take mine to the shop....same everything......after winter go to get her out and same everything....thanks. You saved me quite a bit of money.
I accidentally hooked up battery cables the wrong way. I'm glad they have that fuse there. If it weren't for the fuse, you would have a bigger electrical problem. Good video, helped me diagnose quicker. Now my problem is that the local marine stores are all out and I am going to the lake this weekend.
I just spent four hours trying to figure out what the fuck was going on.....at the lake. Same thing. Power trim works and nothing else. MAN I hope this is the issue! Thank you for posting this because I am usually pretty mechanically inclined and good with motors too. Thank you for giving me a place to look. Ill try tomorrow@!
Thanks for the video! I hooked up a new battery backwards and the 90 amp fuse was blown no power to anything.. Replaced it and everything back to normal :) My boat is a 2001 Bayliner Capri 1950
Everything you say in this video and what I read in the comments is my situation. I just pulled out the fuse after hours of grief and ordered a new one. If this is the solution I cannot thank you enough. However, pulling this fuse out of my boat was a HUGE pain in the neck. It is VERY hard to get to.
Just wanted to say thanks! I have a 2010 Mariah with a 4.3 TKS Mercruiser. I had the exact same problem after a tech winterized my boat. I watched your video bought\swapped out the fuse and I am back up and running. I almost think that the tech did this on purpose to get a repeat call and more cash from my pocket! I think the fuse blew because they arced the battery when they were disconnecting it. Any way, thanks for putting this video up.
I was selling my Boat before I head over seas next day on a rush. Went to the lake and plug the negative and positive wrongly on the Battery and then nothing at all. No power to the boat. Trim was the only area had power. The buyer turn around and left thought there is really something wrong with my boat and did not buy. After I came back from over seas I called several store and the wanted my to drop the boat off to them for diagnostic , While they exactly knew what is wrong with my boat. they estimate $750 or so pluse parts and Lib,...... I could not trust them. THANK you to you and Mellissa for your video. After watching your video, I knew that that is what is wrong with my boat as well. Cost me $35.00 for Fuse 90 Amp and took me only less then 5 minutes to change it. Thank you Thank you Thank you very very much. For others, If you turn on your key and nothing happen(no Power what so ever) most likely you like me have connected the + and _ of the battery wrongly and you got to change the 90 AMP Fuse. then you are good to go.
I've been a marine tech for 35 years and actually most of us are really good guys. Working very hard at a very physical job. Not only is it unethical and wrong, but most of us are so busy that breaking something purposely on someones boat just doesn't make sense. One of the important jobs of that fuse is to protect the electrical system from someone hooking up the battery backwards. I have had a couple of customers over the years who wanted to get a jump on the season and while hooking up their own battery, accidentally (and for a very short time) hooked it up backwards. They fessed up, we laughed about it, and then we dropped a new one in for about $30
Randy Handwork No problem. I absolutely refuse to take my boat to a marine tech. When fall comes around I recommend doing the winterization yourself. It It is very easy to do. And You'll save 100-200 dollars depending on what they charge where you are from.
I just found out I have the same Problem, nothing works but the drive trim. I was installing a new alternator and sparked across from the black terminal to the engine body. One quick spark and nothing, replaced every other fuse on the boat and No Joy. I searched through my manual and found out about that 90A fuse. Should have checked this first. a very frustrating deal. I will get a new fuse tomorrow and be out motoring around. Thanks for the Video, I was not exactly sure which area it was, picture in manual is cruddy. Thanks again Jeff D.
Bro, this is probably my problem! I was looking at that exact part today on my boat… scratching head like what’s this thing…. ? My problem is my engine starts up and run for about 30 seconds then revs up and dies. I have a electric choke that seems to get power off and on, making the choke not work right. Damn, I will take any extra advice, or whatever info you can email would be cool too! Rock on!
Thank you so much. I had the exact same issues with my 05 bayliner BR185 3lt . Merc and thanks to your vid, and a $30.00 90amp. fuse put me back on the lake! thanks again from Ontario Canada
thanks a lot !!! I checked every fuse I could find . Your video got me back on the water !!! If you are ever in upstate New York , I owe you a fat steak !!
Ted Lombard Ill take u up on that if I ever make it up there lol. After all the snow you got last winter Im sure you are anxious to get out on the water! Im glad I could help.
im having an issue of sorts myself, i was told it was a bad starter but when i turn my ignition on, i get a single click then nothing, everything else works but the engine doesnt roll over and my power trim doesnt work
I am having the same issue right now went out to my boat to locate the fuse and cannot locate it. I have a 1996 Mariah shabah with the 3.0 mercruiser. I have power to all accessories blower and bulge but no power to ignition gauges won’t even move when key is turned. I put a brand new battery in it today as well no luck. Any suggestions?
Nice! I had the exact same problem. Power trim only thing working so I looked for fuse per your vid. Not one on my boat so I disonnected the canon harness (just above and to the right of the fuse you are looking at). Cleaned it up good applied dielectric grease and bammom problem solved. Just thought this comment might help someone else.
Paul Haines is there anyway you can further explain what you did in detail for someone who doesn’t know anything about working on this? I believe my mode is the older kind that doesn’t have a fuse either
HI, I am having the issue that all the power is working but engine wont crank - that is, I get the beep power is there but doesnt turn over. Is this the sympton?
Can you please email me the service manuals? I checked the voltage on either side of the fuse and its working. I can't find a free download for the manuals and it would me very much appreciate! Thank you.
We restoring engine/boat and could not find connection detailed diagram from engine to computer. Any idea where we can find it for Mercruiser 5.0 mpi 2008? Thanks
I HAVE EXACTLY THE SAME ISSUE RIGHT NOW...I WILL REPLACE THAT FUSE & SEE WHAT HAPPENS...AND A DEALER TOLD ME THEY NEED TO HAVE A TECH CHECK IT OUT...YEAH, RIGHT.
i have the same problem... thank you so much... it ran fine and sat a year and now no power with a brand new interstate battery. i cleaned all the cables and connections which was very hard for me. still nothing... i will look now at that fuse. i cannot fine a fuse box on this boat???
I have an 1989 Mercruiser 3.0 I turn key nothing checked key switch good, put test light at starter from key switch on power, jump starter with screwdriver across solenoid motor starts, any thoughts ??
