Ford rolled the fenders in order to put the larger tires on the car.
@ProjectMercuryMarauder
@ProjectMercuryMarauder Год назад
Yes they did but also another fun fact is they kept the rolled fenders on all panther cars except for the Town Car (I only say except for the Town Car because I’m not around them enough to see if they made that change as well) from 2003 until 2011

Justbob here. I finally sold my heavily worked 03 last News Years Eve.. I didn’t think that day would ever come after 17+ years of shattering egos one light at a time LOL But she’s in great hands now with a guy that’s the same age I was when I brought her home. Luckily he admits she still scares the crap out of him almost a year later so he’s taking his time coming to terms with her and learning her behavior. Almost too trustworthy and never complains but will pin you right into a wall the second you get cocky.. A drivers car for sure. Well enough about my old gal, I just miss the hell out of her. A few things you can add: 1) 03 - orange defrost grid 04 - red defrost grid 2) 03 - auto parking brake release 04 - nope 3) in relation to #2: 04 - mysterious white vacuum tube capped off on both ends that extends from the engine bay fire wall to the center counsel. Originally it was the vacuum source for the auto parking brake release. Now for a freebie justbob cheat code 😊, it is the PERFECT sleeve for boost gauge 1/8” tubbing to get from the engine to the interior, simply snip the caps off and run it right on thru, boom, instant sleeve with no drilling and already grommet protected. Your welcome. 😊😊 4) 03 - VIN #’s are actually Grand Marquis designated and you better make damn sure your insurance company gets it figured out! In my case in took several months but State Farm finally got a letter from Ford to address this and get the policy in check. Sure it says Marauder, but they could go strictly off of the VIN and only give you Grand Marquis value in a settlement and have every right to do so. Since mine was an early on issue this may have helped pave the way to correction as well as other ones in the early days. 04 - Marauder designated 5) Brake master cylinder lines are reversed due to the traction control. Not only is the traction control a pain to shut off all the time but it’s operation is quite useless and makes for adding a line lock a PITA. 6) 03 - 4 thread heads (spark plugs) 04 - 9 thread Both can have issues of blow out however the 9 thread is obviously better odds of survival. There is definitely more but my memory is slipping.. As for 03 vs 04, 03 wins hands down in my opinion. Much more of a car. 04’s just feel like a stripped down version that Ford was trying to make a quick buck on. Mine was a June 02 build with the supposed paint issues but with only 113,000 miles and living in a garage all it’s life and sleeping on a lift five months a year in the burbs of Chicago winters she was absolutely perfect. I just wish they had much more clear coat added as fine scratches were a yearly job machining out. You could feel the lack of clear and you had to rely on HEAVY coats of wax and gentle dusting to keep that show car stance. A job I do NOT miss! If you’re still reading this sorry for the long comment..!

Hey man, no problem. Thank you for watching! The Lincoln Town Car is what started it all for me way back in 2002 my parents used to have a 2000 Town Car executive edition. And I remember the new ads at the time of the Marauders and I thought that was the coolest thing in the world. What sealed it for me was when a local guy got a 2004 DTR Marauder. And when we finally got to see it in person, it was amazing so back at 2005. We stood and talked to this guy for over two hours in the Albertson’s parking lot. funny story the guy still has the car to this very day! Most kids poster car is like a Ferrari or Lamborghini. Mine was a 2003 Mercury Marauder. I test drove mine on my 20th birthday back in 2014 and I’ve had it ever since!

@ProjectMercuryMarauder

They definitely have their trade-offs! I am not a fan of traction control on these cars so I think if I had to buy another one it would be another 03 car. We just gotta remember Ford didn’t really want to sell these cars they have special suspension special engine special transmission special body panels special interior and they only sold for $33,000-$35,000 we have to remember Lincoln town cars of that same age was flying off the show room floors for $42,000-$47,000! And there’s really not a whole lot more for creature comforts in the Town Car over a Marauder. So with that in mind the profit margins was much thinner for the Marauder and I wouldn’t put it past Ford actually losing out money on these cars.

This is correct! I am not claiming to be a professional or a know it all by any means I’ve i’ve been a Marauder owner for about 7 1/2 almost 8 years so I can still be considered pretty new in ownership compared to some who are original Marauder owners. But the late production 2003 300b cars started having traits of a 2004 style Marauder… of the 7,839 Marauders made in 2003, 328 dark pearl blue, 417 silver birch, both of these color options were late released 2003 so it’s safe to say they’re 300b cars. Of the 7,094 that were black very few if not any were 300b cars. The saying goes not all 2003s are 300a cars but all 2004s are 300b cars. I might make a more technical video later on going off the deep end talking about vin code deciphering and such…

@ProjectMercuryMarauder
@ProjectMercuryMarauder Месяц назад
The only axle ratio available for the Marauder was the 3.55:1 and they only had 28 spline axles my suggestion is if you are changing the gear ratio use time to buy a drop-in 2003 2004 cobra LSD those are 31 spine and then you’ll have to buy new axle shafts and about $150 each. When I went to the 4.10 gears in mine. I did the 31 spine cobra limited slip differential I spent about $900 total in parts and then I installed it myself if you’re not savvy in using precise measuring equipment I would have somebody else install the gears for you so probably add another $800 labor to that and then you’ll have to have the transmission shift points and speedometer adjusted as well Marty Ochs with Mo’s speed shop can do the tuning.

I like these cars. Don't get me wrong. But there's something so much more reassuring about having 2011 Panther. I drive 2011 CVPI SAP with 115k miles. It's decently clean. It runs great. Doesn't burn or leak any fluids. Underneath it looks like a brand new car. I just change the oil and pads when needed. The car is a reliable sleeper with 280hp. I did upgrade my injectors and intake manifold. No cold air intake or other snake oil destined to fail idiot upgrades that come back to bite you.
@ProjectMercuryMarauder
@ProjectMercuryMarauder 2 года назад
Oh that’s nice. Does your car have the 3.27 or the 3.55 rear end? Because I know a lot of the SAP cars had the non trac-lock 3.27. For the most part both the 03 and 04 have been very reliable for the last 7 years and they get raced too. I get a little upset when I hear people say these cars aren’t reliable. There’s a famous RU-vidr that used to live in Florida now lives in Tennessee. Who recently got one but for the last 8 years he has touted himself as the “self-proclaimed panther expert”. I won’t name any names but that’s a heavy hint. He spreads a lot of miss information on these cars I’m by no means butt hurt or anything. I’m cool, just vaguely let down that people can go so long without ever owning or even driving one who can come up with all of these large false claims of unreliable traits. And then use his platform to talk bad about the car. There’s nothing against you it’s just A bunch of miss information it’s kind of why I’m doing videos on these cars. I want you to know if you’re ever in the Portland, Oregon area hit me up and we’ll go show off some bad ass Panther cars!
@jodyoverdoser
@jodyoverdoser 2 года назад
@@ProjectMercuryMarauder I'm pretty sure it is the 3.27 ratio you're talking about. And I agree with you about Random. He pushes a lot of snake oil and bogus that can end up hurting your car or making you waste your money. The dude was upselling cheap Chinese coil packs in one video if that tells you anything. Dude, we both know anybody with common sense knows to stay away from Chinese parts especially when it's stuff that bolts to your engine. Then he likes to promote impersonating police too which I hate. Then there's the self proclaimed thing like you were talking about. Not to mention the guy is a human potato. As far as reliability on the Marauder, just like any car, it's has a lot to do with the owner and how they maintained, stored and took general care of the vehicle. With that being said these cars are getting older now and that age is going cause issues with rubber dry rotting and plastic cracking etc but that with any 20 year old car. I would be more worried about seals and gaskets than anything else. And I wouldn't expect these to get the insane mileage of some 4.6 2v motors either. At the end of the day, it's a muscle car. And the harder you drive them, the more work and money you will have to invest in them.
@buleyauto
@buleyauto 2 года назад
I've always said that, too. There's another guy on here who always calls the Marauder the "pinnacle" of Panther cars and it really is not. Mechanically speaking, the 2011 CVPI was the pinnacle of the Panther platform. It had the best engineering and final version of every mechanical part and piece and every single "bug" worked out. And I've owned and driven both. I guess it depends what you consider more important...leather and creature comforts or performance and reliability.
@ProjectMercuryMarauder
@ProjectMercuryMarauder 2 года назад
@@buleyauto let’s not forget about the transmission problems that plagues the 2005 through 2011 Panthers and the coolant leaking problems associated with the plastic intake manifold yes they started doing aluminum cross overs around 2002 but the aluminum crossover sits on top of the plastic part of the intake manifold and they can still leak seen it happen on a 2007 mercury grand marquis and let’s not forget about the fact that Ford left the crossover tube for the rear molded in plastic with the basis of out of sight out of mind and yet they still end up breaking off though heater hose bib that happened to Derek from Vice Grip Garage recently on his 2011. The only plastic components I have in my complete cooling system is the radiator side tanks which are identical to all panthers 2003-2011. In 2006 Ford went to stamped steel front lower control arms instead of the cast aluminum ones. Bottom line is Ford made a bunch of “cost effective” shortcuts on the 2v powered Panthers.
@jodyoverdoser
@jodyoverdoser 2 года назад
@@ProjectMercuryMarauder My heater hose nipple snapped off in my hands one day. I band aided it for awhile with a plastic heater hose connector and some high heat epoxy. The only direct fit buying options are garbage Dorman with tiny runners and set in gaskets or $375 from the Ford dealership. I ended up going to a junkyard and getting a plastic OEM intake off a 2011 CVPI for $30. Then as I was leaving I noticed this Mustang setting there with the side tore out of it. I popped hood, and low and behold there was an all aluminium polished Typhoon intake and chrome valve covers. Needless to say, I took the whole lot. Then I got the highest rated MSD coil packs, Ford performance injectors. When I changed the intake I did all of this. Now I'm pushing 280hp easily and all I did was make the car more reliable basically. As far as the transmissions go, I know several 2006-2011 owners. The all have nearly 200k miles on their cars and they don't have any issues. When I get on RU-vid though, I see lots of videos about transmission issues and the wrench light. My theory is a lot of idiots buy wore out cop cars and then try to hot rod them or expect them to last. Then there is the other people that never change fluids. If you mention rear diff fluid, they look at you like you're speaking Martian. So the idea of them servicing the transmission fluid and filter is out of the question. I think the Marauder is no different. I looked at one once that was for sale in my area. It was owned by a 22 year old kid. It had been sitting outside for 3 years and it didn't run. He wanted $10k for it. I offered him $2k. He laughed at me. A few weeks later it was crushed for scrap money sadly. Like I said before, Panther or not, like all cars, it's more about the owner and how they took care of the car more than anything else. And age destroys any car regardless of make or model.

Sorry I’ve been really busy lately I haven’t had a chance to respond. I’ve seen all your questions. The crazy cost of the longtube headers now are a bit much and I would definitely pass on them today (9-6-2022) at $1700+ I bought these two years ago and spent $200 less you can talk to Marty Ochs from “MO’s Speed Shop” out of Dallas, Georgia he might be able to get you the old price on those. A friend of mine Dan who’s got the 2004 on this channel his car came out of Detroit eight years ago and it’s got some creeping rust and I was surprised when I did the long tube headers install on his car on how much his factory manifolds eroded away… performance wise I can see it’s right about what they advertise at about 25 hp. It has been known that stock Marauders run about 235hp on a Dyno. A tune is definitely best when going long tube headers so you must build that into the cost Marty is still the guy you want to talk to you about doing the tune as well I can’t say about current prices but they were about $515 for the tuner sent to your door. what part of the west are in I’m out of Portland, Oregon. Don’t buy into the hype of “oh you need header bolts”. Stainless steel modular manifold studs and nuts for $12 on Amazon and fel-pro gaskets work beautifully! A friend of mine who has a 03 Marauder with the longtube headers who just moved to San Diego from Phoenix went the way of the directions with header bolts and high temp silicone and he’s got really bad exhaust leaks. If you need to replace your EGR tube you can use the Dorman Oem replacement one for the same year Ford crown Victoria except the point of where it interfaces with the EGR valve needs to be re-bent a little bit to make it work. About the most challenging part of the whole process was figuring out the dipstick tube and how it wants to get twisted around a certain way to get down to the hole.

@ProjectMercuryMarauder
@ProjectMercuryMarauder Год назад
@@thomasdaum1927 It wasn’t a big problem what you do is you wrap the seatbelt around the steering wheel and plug it into the latch and then it’s just a 10 mm to undo the link right next to the exhaust manifold you’ll see it then it just slides apart really easily and it goes back together equally as easy and don’t worry about not making sure the *steering wheel* is exactly right on because it only goes on one way. I’ve got two more header installs in the near future I might make a video about it…

I have a chance to buy a marauder but I'm stuck with a mkz 😔😢 should i trade the mkz in and jump on the maurder its at my local dealer it only has 77k its 04 with the spare wheel 🛞 i been wanting one for years. But heres the catch i just bought the mkz few months back 🙃 so is it worth it 🤔
@ProjectMercuryMarauder
@ProjectMercuryMarauder 7 месяцев назад
If the MKZ is not giving you any issues then I’d keep it. Not talking bad on the Marauder they are never perfect right after buying one and they usually require something to be done to them so I’d pass on it. In the meantime go test drive it and see if it’s really something that you want to drive. I also have a 2008 Mercury Milan (similar to the MKZ) and I’ll tell you that the Marauder blows it out of the water in performance and handling I like how tight agile the Milan feels but that’s mainly because of it weighing nearly a 1000lbs less. But the Marauder is still faster that fwd ford platform in the corners. One thing that you’re going to find underwhelming is that they are archaic technology wise. Find yourself one as a second car and put Hagerty insurance on it and drive it on the days off.

@ProjectMercuryMarauder thank you for your time and imput and idea 💡 I appreciate that and yes that definitely is wiser 😊 choice and I do agree the MKZ is newer but it still wouldn't hurt give old maurder a test run 😎 maybe have it for a weekend car. Thank you again for your help.

Oil pressure guage on the 03 isn't real. The Volts are.
@ProjectMercuryMarauder
@ProjectMercuryMarauder Год назад
Yup the oil pressure sending unit is a on/off switch that closes the circuit at only 5 psi and the gauge is preset to turn on with just a 12v signal from the sending unit. AutoMeter makes a replacement that fits in the original place that is electric and fully operational without having to plumb a small 1/8th inch plastic oil pressure hose through the firewall and underneath the dash.

The limited slip is better than the traction control anyway. Many modern cars the traction control is about the easiest way to get stuck in snow. More fun is some bury the ability to turn it off in a menu instead of using a button. Having your car go from 20 mph to 0 and stopped on flat ground with your foot on the gas is not assisting anything except anger.
