Merrion Square is located on the southside of Dublin city centre, and dates back to the 18th Century. All four sides of the square are home to a variety of businesses and institutions, including the National Gallery of Ireland, Leinster House, the Natural History Museum and the National Maternity Hospital.
The square is also well served by buses, from a variety of operators. Unsurprisingly, Dublin Bus dominate and it has been the terminus to a number of routes over the years. Today it fills that roll for Dublin Bus routes 15A, 15B, and 26. These routes use all four sides of the square, and serve bus stops on three sides. Dublin Bus route 44 serves Merrion Square West as it head south to Enniskerry (northbound the route goes via Dawson Street), while routes 4, 7 and 7A pass along Merrion Square North in both directions.
Regional services also feature around Merrion Square. Two Bus Eireann Expressway routes serve stops there. It is a terminus for Route 100X while Route 2 to Wexford serves a stop on Merrion Square North. Bus Eireann routes 133 and NX pass through too, with the 133 using Merrion Square West, and route NX using Merrion Square North and Merrion Square East. Dublin Express Route 784 and Wexford Bus route 740 also use Merrion Square North and Merrion Square East as their primary routing around the park.
Merrion Square is a busy bus location in the city centre, served by a variety of different types of buses and services.
