Eminem heard Dido's song that is used for the hook, and the line about the pictures on the wall made him think of an obsessed fan. That's why the hook is used.
Syfin one could say that... one could say that it’s due to you guns catching on to something too late... yet one could also say do to the fanatical “Meme” world we live in- it’s thanks to those kids being so damn repetitive and unoriginal.
@@pdubzpyro I'm literally a grumpy old fuck and I still couldn't tell what you were saying. You'd think with all the time we've had to be alive, we'd at least have learned how to type in a coherent manner.
@@privateger STan has been out 20 years, why only now how is it been added to a dictionary? Cos this generation have adapted the words stan, use it daily in memes and overall conversation, basically they made a 20 year old made up word relevant again, its cool, Stan is a great describing word as apposed to a fan, a stan for me, is a.. well a nutcase, ujst listen to the song lol
From a young guy without his dad in his life you are a lucky guy your dad seems like an amazing man and your relationship is something so genuine and special 👍 Respect from 🇬🇧 bro
The video to this song is fantastic! The singer, Dido, plays the girlfriend in it. For me, the best performance of this was on Grammy’s (I think) when Elton John sang the hook and played the piano. Em was getting a lot of shit from protesters saying he was homophobic. Elton John ended up kind of helping Em get clean (almost like his sponsor) and apparently used to call him all the time to check up on him. Fantastic that Em just celebrated 12 years sober.💜
I think Elton still calls him every week he does it with alot of his friend to see how they are getting on with their issues/ health, Ozzy Osbourne commented on it recently that every week without fail he always rings to check in on him
News just came out that a guy called Matthew recently broke into Eminem's house. Eminem has a song called Bad Guy (a sequal to Stan) about Stans little brother Matthew who breaks into Em's house 🤯
JRY17 tell me about it, I get confused sometimes like where the beef started in the comment sections, I feel like people used to keep their dumb mistakes out
The woman’s chorus(Dido’s part) is life from the Stans point of view. Even though life is dreary, they can look at the picture of their idol on the wall and feel better.
The chorus does relate to the song. "But your picture on my wall, it reminds me that it's not so bad." It's representing the fan who looks up at Eminem's poster as the only way he can feel better.
@@TheSittinggDuck She hasn't heard that one yet. I tried to have listen to 'Darkness' a few days ago, she didn't finish it. Not because it was too dark, but she found it boring. Think I'll wait a bit before trying with 'Headlights'.
Please keep doing this. I lost my mom a couple of years ago, and I wish I could do this with her. You really need to cherish every moment with your parents. Specially this kind of connection. I hope you're doing well man. Love your vids.
I bumped into your channel randomly and it makes me so happy to see you guys doing this! I'm so happy your dad is enjoying the music! His reaction at the end of the song made me grin as the dots connected for him. The first time I heard it I got shivers!
Man I'm low key jealous of the vibe you've got with your dad. I lost mine when I was in my teens. But the way this dude looks at you and that slightly nervous drive he's got about checking this stuff out. You dont see people doing those checks unless they're super dedicated to a thing. You're lucky my dude. You've got a wonderful relationship there, and I hope you fully apreciate the potential to bond you have right there. He cares about you deeply and he's 100% on board and it ain't about the music. What matters to him is 110% about quality time with you. That's a precious gift and I love that you two have that. Don't let it go to waste.
Finaly, I salute you for making your dad listen to the original version and not the "clean" one. Most first reaction are ruined because the pregnant girlfriend in the trunk is censored while it is the part of the song that gives the most chills.
"Well, that was Stan"- "That was perfect". Hell yeah, so glad he's feeling Eminem. I'm also a metalhead but Eminem is one of my fav artists ever. In fact, I learned english thanks to listening to him when I was younger. I am from Spain. Cheers to you both, great duo!
The course was a huge song in the late 90’s and the original was actually still playing on the radio when Stan came out.. Em heard it and instantly thought of an obsessed fan instead of a love bc of the pictures on the wall. It resonated with him from hanging magazine pictures of his favorite rappers growing up. The rest is history and Stan is now a term in the dictionary
Just wanted to say Tim really been enjoying your videos. I also completely agree with your dad's take on fans of metal being fans of rap and vice versa. Its the same with me, started out huge rap fan now i also enjoy listening to metal almost as much. Keep up the good work man.
I saw one person request "Dance with The Devil" by Immortal Technique. I would love to see this song reacted too. Please dont do any research on this song before listening, It will spoil so much about the song. Just give it a listen and probably one of the most deep mind fucking depressing songs i've ever heard, even though this is in my top 5 alive right now
Man... it's been a while since i've listened to that song, shit's so damn heavy it turns my stomach everytime i listen to it. Their other songs are so good aswell
Thank you for the video, much respect to you and your father. Big props to him for being open to this kind of music and seeing the talent within, that's kinda rare. Also thank you for listening to the explicit version, meaning to a lot of different parts of the song is truly lost when it's censored. ✌️
First let me just throw out there how I think its amazing these days that it's become so much more accepted that Dad's show interest in their kids passions etc. and can actually bond. I wonder how many more family would've been better of in this world if they could've done that since the beginning of time. Good for you two!
One of the most legendary songs in rap. An eternal classic and the origin of Stan in the world dictionary for obcessed fan. Portugal here for the Goat Eminem always since day one and forever. It helped also Dido to sell a lot back then and she has great cds . Amazing storytelling... as usual.
The word "Stan" is in the dictionary now, as an adjective describing an obsessed fan.. crazy to me. I hear ppl using it all the time. Do "when I'm gone"... 💙 great reaction guys!
u only have 2.5 thousand subscribers and this video came up on my recommended videos,, your doing something right man... keep going man,, titles of the videos is very important broksi
love the eminem reaction vids guys, keep it up ! Also your dad shouldn't feel dumb for missing stuff (aka BARS) in Em's songs. That's the thing with Em, that's mostly why he is either loved or hated, most people can't or don't have the patience to go back and listen to a song like 4 or 5 times in order to catch everything... But for people like me that's what it's all about ! Also, I think lyrics videos is the best option for your reactions (helps catch a few bars and highlight the ryming patern) DP out !
Let me just throw out there, I think it's amazing that these days it's become so much more accepted for Dad's to show interest and love for their kids passions and projects etc. and are able to take the time and actually bond with each other. I actually wonder how many families would've been better off in this world if they could've done all of that since the beginning of time. Good for you two!
Just found your channel guys and subscribed 😀 then watched a good 2 hours of your reactions...you both rock man , maybe your dad a lil more 🤣🤣 .. bless stay up
Idk if it’s a fact or it’s just me who is noticing this, but every reaction channel that covers one of Eminem songs just explode and become filled with Em fans, it’s just crazy to see and witness. What a GOAT 🐐.
Discovering this video today after a trip down memory lane with Eminem and just wanted to give you props for not ruining your dad's first impression with a shitty short/censored version. Great video overall thank you both!
In a youtube short I saw a scene where they did this in concert and Dido was on stage. Despite being a musician herself, she seemed a little lost and nervous, but she started singing, and then you hear the audience singing her lings along with her, and you see her react as she hears it, and her confidence go up as she keeps singing. It really was a very beautiful moment. Weird that it came from a performance of such a dark song, but look it up, it's incredible.
You say that "Stan's" attitude isn't farfetched from the truth, and that's really true. Not long ago (in April) a 27-year-old fan literally snuck past sleeping security, broke into Eminem's house (by breaking a window I think) at 4 in the morning just to meet him, putting himself and everyone involved in grave danger, so many things could've gone wrong, and it's a shame honestly. Plus, this is far from being the first time since even though "STAN" isn't a true story, it was inspired by the crazy fan mail that Eminem got (and still gets), he struggled a lot with it, and if you listen to "The Way I Am" -which is an amazing song btw- you'd hear a very angry Marshal Mathers, one that's tired of fans ruining his everyday life, and that one always tied to stan for me. Also, (because I have some free time, and because I really love this song, and would like for it to be understood in the best way) this is how I interpret the chorus and how it ties to the verses: Dido uses a lot of imagery, things that shouldn't necessarily be taken literally, she says: "My tea's gone cold I'm wondering why I got out of bed at all The morning rain clouds up my window And I can't see at all And even if I could it'd all be gray" These bars are metaphors (also descriptions of her surroundings and feeling), they all describe lack of purpose and/or things feeling stale (cold tea) and gray (rainy clouds in the morning). They also describe a feeling of loss and helplessness ("I can't see at all "), and basically a lack of any kind of wanting to live ("I'm wondering why I got out of bed at all "), then she breaks this imagery with one of hope by saying "But your picture on my wall , It reminds me that it's not so bad" meaning that in these very hard times, she finds peace and comfort in her favorite artist's work, and it serves as an escape from the cruel reality that she, stan, and millions of other fans find themselves in, which gives a deeper meaning to the lines from the second verse: "I can relate to what you're sayin' in your songs So when I have a shitty day, I drift away and put 'em on ‘Cause I don't really got shit else So that shit helps when I'm depressed". Yeah I can go on for hours, but this is hopefully enough to explain the chorus at least.
@@period5304 Hahahah, I stopped because I believe that the chorus is not explained well enough on the genius page. I'm pretty sure the rest of the lyrics are ;))
Yup, when I read that I was like, man if you're a real fan, or a "stan" as people calls us, you MUST know the song and you must understand that's NOT THE WAY to go. People are crazy.
I was suggested the "Rap God" reaction, loved it, and had to see this, you guys are awesome. Instant subscribe, and I'ma try to slowly enjoy the rest of these. I really enjoyed these, keep kickin' ass and doin' it well. Also, really glad to see you were under 1000 subs and blew TF up in the last month-ish. Only suggestion for a change i have, is make the music slightly quieter because y'all are at a perfect volume and if I had been wearing headphones, the outro music may have turned me into Beethoven without skill. But much love sent your way. Take care and stay safe my dudes!
React to Castle and Arose , it gotta be in one video because they are both parts of 1 story. First part is Castle then Arose :) I recently found your channel and i am really sceptical about channels that have small amount of subs and views but it turned out yours is great! Keep doing what you are doing guys! And sorry if there are any mistakes , English is not my first language ;)
This is great. Loving watching your dad learn this music. I grew up with this shit. But dude. You MUST show your dad “Dance with the Devil” by Immortal Technique. It’s one of the greatest story telling raps ever made . Huge twist in the end as well. You MUST show it to your dad . Would LOVE to see his reaction
I get wanting to watch the lyric video, especially given it can be kinda tricky to find the uncensored version, but the video really helps with the narrative in this one in particular.
The girlfriend singing is Dido The picture on the wall in the chorus refers to the posters referenced in the first verse. If you listen to the chorus as if Stan is saying it, he's talking about Eminem.
The original song is used in a way that the singer expresses their thanks to a person (assumed to be their partner/love) who makes even the worst days a little bit better. But Eminem was sent the sample and heard the "your picture on my wall reminds me that its not so bad" and put a fan-idol spin on it. So because Dido is singing it you're led to believe its a nice romantic sentiment. But the trip is that the chorus is from stan's perspective (towards eminem) but tied in with how a wife/husband should feel about their partner, which tragically is clearly not the case here.
"Kim" isn't really that deep Kim mathers isn't as bad as eminem portrayed her. It's not as bad, but it was a dick move to put her on the spot like that, it's not like she was the only sinner in their relationship
new viewer, have really enjoyed these videos reactions with your dad. i find it interesting hearing your dads perspective on the GOD that is Eminem. Subscribed! keep them coming. would love to see you and your dad react to "Kim"
Great artist are usually known for having many hits. Legendary artists not only have that, but are also usually known for having one song that towers so high that it lasts generations and is above all the rest they do. Stan is Em's Starry Night and shows exactly why he deserves the praise he gets.
I'm a huge Eminem Fan, grown on country, so there's where my roots are, but Eminem got me in to other lanes of music, and I started getting in to rock a little at a time, and like you all have said, it's the same messages relayed in different ways. I didn't know I would like rock, but I definitely do and I enjoy watching you all! You might try some Em songs that aren't well known, like Die Alone, or Fine Line, those are two I enjoy, or something like 25 to life, it's amazing, but I'm a recovering addict, and the song DeJaVu is definitely in my top realm of songs, a long with Castle and Arose, though if oyu listen to Castle and Arose, do it together, they tie in together. The entire Revival album is much more intricate that people realize, it's just an album that was an update to all the real fans of Eminem, and that's why it wasn't received well by those who don't follow his life like someone like myself does.
I’ve never seen this video full because of that pencil scratching noise. It just gives me chills, can’t even listen to that noise even for a second. I think I have a problem.
Such a chill watch, love it guys. Subscribed. Another good story telling rap song "Slick Rick - Children's Story." Would be cool to see you review that
