@@ThisisStephennn was gonna say slayer, sepultura, death, maybe voivod, basically turn the dial up on the thrash heaviness. While I enjoy polyphia I would not categorize them as a true or hardcore metal band.
one guy literally said he don't like the lyrics (vocals is what he means probably) in rock/metal music, chances are low he would be a "metalhead" if he doesn't even mess with james hetfields vocals from his early shit but then again metallica didn't click with me at first but boy did that change after a while . the one on the left definitely vibes with the metal for sure
@@imagereflection4826 Mustaine wrote the best songs on their first two albums, ride the lightning, call of Cthulhu, the four horsemen and metal militia are all Dave’s.
If you wanna check out more of their instrumentals, check out Orion, To Live is To Die, and Anesthesia Pulling Teeth, which is a bass solo by Cliff Burton, who died on a bus during their tour in 1986.
@@venon4575 I never got into any of their stuff mainly from the black album on forward. I was into them deeply back in the early to Tate 80s (before they became a household name, when NOBODY knew who these guys were). There was myself and about four others in my High School that even knew who these guys were. I was an avid rare album collector back then. I spent my entire part time job earnings on getting my hands on all these rare vinyl albums such as different colored vinyl “Creeping Death” (red, blue, gold, green, picture discs, etc) and other rare bootleg concerts from back then, etc. once they became more mainstream/popular, I lost internet in them, packed away all my rare picture discs and ep’s and stored them in a back closet. Maybe one day I’ll find a collector who would pay an attractive price to add them all to their collection.
As a 45-year-old metalhead that has been listening to them since the mid-80s, this warms my old shriveled heart. It's incredible to see yall enjoy the shit my friends and I would geek out about so long ago. 🤘🏼
If you want a real treat, listen to the live version of this song that they performed with the San Francisco Symphony Orchestra on S&M and S&M2. Hearing them play this with an orchestra is really something special.
I agree with the first 4, although And Justice for All was a huge injustice to Jason from the start. They suppressed his bass lines to hell, although the album was still really good. Black album was decent but it was obvious that they were losing it by then.
Welcome Home (Sanitarium) Unforgiven I, II and III Battery Damage Inc. Creeping Death Harwester of Sorrow From whom the bell tolls Disposible heroes The Four Horsemen Dyers Eve Orion Atlas, rise! Spit out the bone Many many more. Always pull up lyrics :)
So imagine this song is the necessary ingredient in summoning forth an alien lifeform living deep in the ocean. It's name is Cthulhu and it sleeps in Its City of Ry'leh deep beneath the waves. It is both asleep and yet not asleep(or not even alive) but one day, when the stars align, it'll wake up. This event - or maybe the first glance of Cthulhu - will basically render everyone infuckingsane, but that's totally fine, because Cthulhu plans to eat us and the planet anyway. Cliff Burton, the original bassist of the band, was a fan of Lovecraft, and would read his stories aloud; Lovecraft worked mostly in short stories, so it was something to do between practing for HOURS in the studio. Sadly, he was killed when their tour bus wrecked on icy roads in Sweden in 1986. The whole bad was there and saw it and..it was pretty gruesome. Burton was only 24. It's affected a lot of their music moving forward after that. Nothing Else Matters deals with his death, which is why it's one of slower, more sombre songs. They've done other Lovecraft songs; The Thing That Should Not Be, Dream No More, and All Nightmare Long.
You guys are correct. Thrash-metal is a subgenre of heavy metal, but heavy metal is also it's own genre. Metallicas first four albums are thrash metal classics. Their fifth is more mainstream heavy metal but still golden. Keep em coming respect
I think people try to make heavy metal a sub genre of itself, which is silly. It’s just that when the classic bands were starting out there were no sub genres. To make it easier to understand, perhaps “classic metal” should be used.
You guys definitely need to do a reaction to Megadeth "Peace Sells" and "Sympathy of Destruction" (Live in Argentina) you guys will absolutely love it!! 🤟
Do "To Live Is To Die" The song was written as a tribute to the band's bassist Cliff Burton, who was killed in a bus accident in 1986. The music consists of riffs Burton had written that had not been incorporated into songs prior to his death. The song title is a phrase that Burton was fond of. Hetfield plays the second guitar solo during the slower midsection of the song. This is the last song Metallica released that Burton has a writing credit in, and is the band's only instrumental track with Jason Newsted (2nd Bassist) playing bass guitar.
In my opinion "Orion" is their best instrumental. Just take a listen to it, and I think you all will agree? Also "The Call OF Kutulu" was written by the Jimi Hendrix of bass Cliff Burton. Same with "Orion" written by Burton
What a fvckin half pure lie. Burton only introduced the book called The shadow of Innsmouth by Lovecraft. Dave Mustaine wrote the intro arpeggiated errie chord (which he later also used in Hanger 18 and other songs) followed by Burton wah absurd bass solo over 2 minute riff pattern written by Hedfield. The solo was written by Kirk, the outtro was written by Cliff, Lars and Hetfield and the whole song was arranged mainly by Lars. And in Orion, i know the song is all about Cliff and was also dedicated to him but Cliff only wrote the middle section bassline passage/solo and guitar harmony. The whole section was arranged by Lars and the main guitar riff was written by Hetfield. Research first even before you idolised someone.
@@Cosmefulanito2812 Yeah after the first thrash metal albums and Black album i finally got addicted to load and reload but because if another band came out with those albums. They would have exploded because some really good hard rock songs they have and the lyrics got me through some hard times.
Glad y'all are enjoying Metallica. Enjoying your reactions. I strongly suggest you do a double header with Cliff Burton's bass solo Pulling Teeth (Anesthesia) straight into Whiplash ftom the Kill em All album. Never drive to that though.... it's a guaranteed ticket 🤣
One of my favorite Metallica songs. You gotta give props, these dudes were like 19 - 20 years old in 1984 and the level of song writing and mastery of their instruments was crazy. There were other metal/thrash bands at this time but nobody was laying down tracks like Metallica.
Hangar 18 and Lucretia from "rust in Peace" are great Megadeth songs (from the same album as the one you guys did). Those and Cowboys from Hell by Pantera are full of energy. In fact anything from Pantera but Cowboys from Hell is probably the most lively album. Also live versions from Metallica's show in Seattle 1989 are insane.
That solo is just so good lol . 1989 live seattle , The Thing that Should Not Be. Possibly one of the best performances they haver done and the song is just insane.
If it’s after 86 it ain’t worth it A cliff song not played by cliff is basically like Ronnie James dip singing an ozzy song from the early years of sabbath
@@Leatherface123. no you just have shit judgment and are blatantly lying knowing Metallica still made great Metal songs after the bs that was Load/Reload. Death Magnetic proved they can still be creative when they want to be. Hardwired was trying please all their fans. Who knows what the new album this year will end up being.
GUYS, IF YOU LOVED THIS INSTRUMENTAL MASTERPIECE, YOU MUST REACT TO "ORION" (TRY THE LIVE VERSION, THE MOST VIEW) AND "TO LIVE IS TO DIE", BY METALLICA OF COURSE. ENJOY THEM!!!🤘🏼🎶
you guys should do "the frayed ends of sanity" its off the same album as "one" and "blackened", its a really good song and has some of their best riffs (imo) in it
If you guys are going on a Metallica run you gotta do Battery, but I'm guessing ya'll are college athletes? So do it with plenty of time to recover for the crazy headbanging that song induces. I once strained my neck rocking out so hard to that song.
Awesome, you have to do Ride the Lightning and Trapped under ice from this album, if you want to hear the best guitar work that is . Piut ya seat belt on though .....
Keep up with the Metallica videos! More Metallica Song Recommendations: Hit the Lights, Welcome Home (Sanitarium), Orion (instrumental), Dyers Eve, To Live is To Die (instrumental), Unforgiven, Unforgiven 2, Unforgiven3, Bleeding Me, Outlaw Torn
Great track from an epic album. The title track is pretty cool too. About a prisoner going to the electric chair his crimes--hence, Ride the Lightning. You guys would def dig the lyrics too.
A good instrumental by Metallica. Orion being my Metallica instrumental favorite. If you want a couple Instrumentals to blow you away check out Death Angel - The Ultra-Violence and Metal Church - It's a Secret.
I know that I'm a bit late on this reaction video. So, when I hear this song from Metallica. I like to keep my eyes closed for this instrumental masterpiece and visualize myself on a beach on a stormy night. Lightning and thunder in the distance and then from that distance. I see a colossal silhouette far in the ocean. I see the silhouette of Ktulu getting closer and the waves hitting the beach thrashes against the shore. The water rises comes into the land like a tsunami and the wind burst inland like a hurricane. Raining pouring down like no other. The lightning reaches overhead, and the thunder is so loud your ears start to burst and before you know it. Ktulu is overhead and everything goes black. You wake up thinking it is a nightmare even though you closed your eyes on purpose just to visualize this but as you know its just a figment of my imagination that got the best of me.
Please REACT to Eminem "My Name Is" or "The Real Slim Shady." The videos/songs are both CLASSIC, FUN Eminem. Each the lead single off his first 2 major label albums.
The guy in the blue shirt? Headbangin fool just getting lost in the music. Just like me. Just like in every Metallica reaction vid they do. What generation gap? Lol. Cool stuff.
Once thing ive noticed with this song is not enough people give Robert Trujillo (their current base player) enough credit. He slays this live, dude is a monster. Also one of Kirk Hammett's best guitar solo's.
Orion from Master of Puppets album is another instrumental with some blues influence I’m sure y’all will enjoy. To live is to die is their third instrumental from the Justice for All album that contains a short poem from bassist Cliff burton before his untimely death R.I.P
This is a top 10 Metallica track for me. The 1999 S&M (Symphony & Metallica) version is worth watching - flawless performance, which won a Grammy for best instrumental.
Check out the "The thing that should not be" the live version from 1989. And " Orion" both off the Master of Puppets album. Orion the studio version.....
FR 'bout time yall stop sleeping on South African Hip Hop... Nasty C - SWAY freestyle.... Stogie T SWAY freestyle.... TOUCHLINE ft. Stogie T... Nasty C ft. A$AP FERG.. Let's get it 🙏🏼🔥🔊
I saw Metallica perform this album from end to beginning at the Orion Festival in Atlantic City, NJ. Went with my Metallica road dog Ruthie. She just passed away in October and I miss her so much!! Rock on guys 🤘
"Might as well close my eyes" Listening to this song with your eyes closed is the only way to listen to it. It truly takes you on a journey... Enjoy the ride 🤘
Cool facts about this song: - Cthulhu is this monster created by HP Lovecraft, his power is to steal dreams of people. - Cthulhu needs to be "summoned" by cultists, he is like an ancient pagan god that is sleeping in the deep seas. - HP Lovecraft is the father of Horror/Cosmic Horror, his work heavily influentied many writers after him. - The intro was composed by Dave Mustaine (frontman of Megadeth, that was lead guitarist of Metallica). Dave was kicked and Metallica still used his parts with no Dave's concent. - Dave Mustaine uses this composition after in Megadeth on a song called "Hangar 18" (thats a hell of a song, check it out). - The bass guitar by Cliff Burton (RIP, 1986) is kinda low on the original mix, but he tries to create the Cthulhu scream. Check more Metallica instrumentals, "Orion" is my favorite song, it's so groovy and hard.
"Giant squid monster with wings" poor HP Lovecraft, to have his creation summed up so! LOL Cthulhu is a Cosmic entity created by H.P Lovecraft and first appeared in his short story "The Call of Cthulhu" in 1928. He made repeated appearances in Mr. Lovecraft's work and has inspired many other creators of various media throughout the decades. The most common features of Cthulhu are the humanoid head with lower half comprised of many tentacles, though they tend to be more like an octopus than a squid, the wings, and being bepedal. Oh, and the fact he drives everyone and everything completely bat-sh*t crazy! One of the best Lovecraft/Cthrulhu-inspired pieces I've seen is "In the Mouth of Madness" with Sam Neil. 10/10 highly recommend!
AWW DAMN I REALLY WISH YALL WOULD DO A RE-DO ON THIS SOPNG. THE SAN FRANSCISCO SYNPHONY AND METALICA PLAYED A CONCERT TOGETHER AND THIS SONG WAS X10 AS AMAZING THEN. its on youtube (just realized caps) oh well lol
PLEASE LISTEN TO PHANTOM OF THE OPERA LIVE BY IRON MAIDEN PLEASE PLEASE PLEASE PLEASE IT WAS WITH THIER FIRST SINGER. Also Dave Mustaine from megadeth wrote this song in his time with Metallica
SHAI - IF I EVER FALL IN LOVE ACAPELLA VERSION (must be this version) DO THIS NEXT GUYS - you will not be sorry. FELLOW COMMENTORS PLEASE VOTE THIS UP!!
Man I NEED ya'll to react to Orion. It's their best instrumental. Cliff Burton's last masterpiece before he passed away. I kinda want ya'll to see a live version so you can appreciate the bass but that the same time it would be different from the regular format
Dave Mustaine (Megadeth)/Cliff Burton - Call of Ktulu aka "When Hell Freezes Over" originally. But you know who took credit for it of course? The "The Walmart of Metal" aka Metallica. 🙄
Suggestion - if you’re gonna listen to Metallica it’s worth cranking them on a wicked sound surround system. It’s a whole next level experience. Also listen to them with sympathy orchestra as well. Keep it loud boyz!! 🤘🏼
Been a while since I've jammed this tune. I got a tear in my eye listening to Cliff on this song. Dude was so talented and ahead of his time. The atmosphere he brought to this song is unmatched
Orion and pulling teeth is must. Cliff Burton was a genius. Somewhere I've just read James Hetfield said : were just boys from the garage but Cliff was the musician.
So happy you guys enjoy real music!!! I have seen Metallica live 3 times and is absolutely insane! This song is one of my favourites in my running playlist, one of my favourite bands ever! Great channel guys 🤘🏻🤘🏻🤘🏻
Y'all have to do a reaction video of DIO. He replaced Ozzy Osbourne in Black Sabbath. He is one of the true metal Gods. He Had one of the best voices in Heavy metal. You should check out the Holy Diver video.
You guys have to check out the version of this song they do with the San Francisco Symphony from their album S&M from 1999. It will blow you away. You guys should do a reaction video to that one
after years of listening to metal - trying to always find a heavier band .... no matter which band i find there is always someone saying "THatS NOt mEtaL!" so tired of that gatekeeping shit lol
To Live is to Die is the better Metallica instrumental song. The song is a tribute to their former bassist Cliff Burton, who tragically died in a bus accident.
Now that you’ve done Call to Ktulu, Orion should be on your radar. Another long instrumental that when I first heard it I thought it was just an impromptu jam session that was recorded while they were in the studio and added it to the album because I could see them doing something like that.
this is Metallica's first song referencing the Cthulhu Mythos by (mostly) H.P. Lovecraft and other authors "Call of Ktulu" (references "Call of Cthulhu") "The Thing That Should Not Be" on *Master of Puppets (1986)* (references "Nyarlathotep", "The Shadow Over Innsmouth", "Dagon", "The Necronomicon", and "Call of Cthulhu" all by Lovecraft) "All Nightmare Long" on *Death Magnetic (2008)* (references "Hounds of Tindalos" by Frank Belnap Long, whose work is considered part of the Mythos ) and "Dream No More" on *Hardwired...To Self Destruct* (references "Call of Cthulhu" once again) James said Dream No More "was basically a follow-up to “Call of Ktulu,” for me. It was, Cthulhu answers. In the mythos he rises up, and if you even gaze at his reflection you turn to stone he’s so hideous and horrible."
In some spots, you can hear a 'growling' noise. This was the bassist Cliff Burton using a distortion pedal and a wah wah pedal on his bass. I mention it because it's something you never hear. It is extremely rare for a bassist to run distortion pedals, much less other assorted guitar FX pedals, but Cliff was kind of a pioneer. He has a solo track called Anesthesia where he utilizes everything in his tool kit. Definitely worth a listen.
