Isn't that the best and the worst? Nintendo plays such great hold music. It suddenly becomes okay to be on hold. (And, well, every time I've had a problem with Nintendo, they've been an absolute GEM. So that's another plus for their Customer Service department.)
Wait do they really play soundtracks of their games? And even Metroid Prime!? God damn, that makes me want to have some sort of small problem and call them lol
Has it really been that long? I remember that when my brother first bought it (I was five at the time) all the monsters scared the shit out of me, and I'd just sit in a save room, reading everything in the scan log. Until one day, about 4 years ago he made me a bet: beat his highest percentage, which was 90% in a week and a half, for a pretty reward of 50 dollars. I did so, and the game grew on me. Now when I'm feeling sad or really angry, I go back and burn some Pirates with the Plasma beam
Most GameCube titles have aged very well. The only title in my GC library that has aged a lot is Eternal Darkness, but graphics were never the focus. Metroid Prime is still IMO one of the best first-person games EVER. Echoes and 3 hit different cords and get some elements better, but the overall *feel* of 1 is something else. Kinda the same thing happens in most video game series. Sequels enhance and refine the gameplay or story, but the first usually has the best feel to it, regardless of age. I feel it with Metroid Prime, the 3D Zelda games, Dragon Age, Mass Effect and so many other franchises.
Kevin Penkin, the composer who made amazing music for several video games and the anime "Made in Abyss" said in an interview that this song was what made him interested in video game music. The wikipedia page states, in a 2012 interview, he referred to the theme's electronic synths and acoustic instruments as "absolute bliss". Truly shows how brilliant the ost of this game is.
Whats crazy is that metroid prime’s best tracks are NOT remixes off SNES. It is so, so hard to create a brand new track that is fresh, not derivative, but still ‘metroid’, and they did it here.
@@vitamindealer7915 Well Kenji Yamamoto is the composer of this game since Super Metroid (along with Minako Hamano), so it's not that surprising knowing that he makes incredible music while setting the "Metroid" style. What is impressive to me is how he managed to evolve the musical style from 16-bit SNES sounds to this and setting an overall musical style to this trilogy. It's a shame they both didn't come back for Dread though :( At least I hope they come back for Prime 4 or else, it won't definitely be the same.
The music in this game reflects the feeling of the levels themselves. Phendrana is cold and desolate, Magmoor is industrial and mechanical. Chozo is mysterious and evocative, Phazon is scary and violent ..........best videogame music ever.
Metroid Prime holds a special place in my heart for the Metroid games. In addition to being a beautifully detailed FPS on the GameCube, it tells three very different but equally tragic stories. On the one hand it tells of the heart breaking decline of the Chozo civilization on Talon IV, which was once home to a thriving population that lived in harmony with nature before the asteroid that contained both Phazon and Metroid Prime fell. The second story it tells is of the hellish takeover of the planet by the Space Pirates as they try to fulfill their lust for ultimate power in the universe. The last story that it tells is that of Samus Aran herself in her quest to not only exact revenge on Ridley and the Space Pirates for taking her entire family from her (both human and Chozo) but her story of growth from being a hatching into being the ultimate warrior of the Chozo race. The Chozo hieroglyphics that you encounter throughout the game tell of the deep history that exists in the Metroid franchise as a whole, explaining the faith the Chozo had in Samus, watching her grow up from a child to an adult and bestowing the gift of her Power Suit upon her. A lot of people take the game at face value and view it simply as another blind run and gun adventure for Samus to participate in, but it's so much more than that and I wish more people could see it. Phendrana Drifts is a snow-themed area in the game where the Chozo once lived before the dramatic climate change brought on by the Phazon asteroid's impact. By the time Samus arrives they're little more than cold ruins with some Chozo tech lying in wait for the right person to find it (notably the Booster Ball and Wave Beam power-ups. You can argue the point on the Spider Ball and Thermal Visor power-ups but I feel those are Space Pirate tech) Phendrana also possibly the most beautifully-written song in the game, which is Phendrana's main area theme.
+QueenReign I played this game when I was a kid and did not that Ridley and Space Pirates took her family away. Guess I skipped that part but I agree it's amazing.
+QueenReign Everything you said i agree i grew up playing metroid something bout this game enlightens me and makes me feel happy i wish more could understand how special metroid itself truly is i will always love metroid for what it is never any need for change keep it original like metroid prime for gamecube metroid prime 2 echoes for gamecube and metroid prime 3 corruption for the wii best one is metroid prime for gamecube because everything in it is so beautiful and gorgeous with relaxing peaceful calm music playing throught the game especially phendrana's main theme song metroid will always be one of my most favorited games
I love how this song sounds like "winter" without sounding like Christmas music. Even the sleigh bells evoke more of an image of a dogsled team trekking through the frozen tundra than Santa Claus.
it's desolate feeling but it also plays with these weird scales and modes that give it a distinctly metroid flavor so that the instruments dont even feel remotely christmasy. i always felt like the phendrana theme was somehow a variation on the original metroid 8-bit theme, an elaboration of it.
This fucking game has something that I have never seen in any other game. I can't even put my finger on it, but it was a mix of the hardcore gameplay, the beautiful graphics, the incredible detail, and the brilliant music
I think it's that the game has "soul." No, not the Jive Turkey kind. The game's aesthetic is all about selling the fact that you've landed on an alien world that you're exploring, while hunting down Space Pirate vermin.
@@TheAsvarduilProject What this game and super metroid have in common is that they both did a phenomenal job at building the "atmosphere" of the game. You truly feel immersed in the alien world. It's beautiful.
Metroid Prime is one of the greatest games ever made. And what’s crazy is that Nintendo handed the responsibility to some game developer in Texas who had no experience of making a Metroid game before. And yet they absolutely killed it.
Thommo Hawk Ocarina of time is good but far from the best. I preferred Majora's Mask and if you want my opinion on the best game of all time?: Xenoblade Chronicles.
As a six year old, this was the sound of relief. As a child, the darkness, creatures, atmosphere and theme song of Magmoor caverns scared the shit out of me. When I finally got out of the elevator to Phendranas Drifts, I took a deep breath and just wandered around. Did anyone one else do this?.
Adam Jonsäll I played it being 7 years old, I remember that I had to muster courage for about 2 weeks just to jump off the cliff in the underwater area of Phendrana that was full of tentacles lol.
Came back after the remaster, I'm right at the cusp of hearing this, stepping into phendrana and seeing ridleys shadow whilst Im absolutely lost in this magnificent OST.
I've played this game and listened to the OSTs so much that I have the music perfectly memorized. So my brain is pretty much a playlist of Metroid Prime music.
DraculaXHunter101 Can't agree more. Only god knows why, but looks like a lot of people working for Retro Studios at that time did understand the "Metroid" feeling from the 2D games and even evolved it when transporting it to 3D.
GaaraSama1983 Retro is probably the only video game studio who turned a 2D game in 3D flawlessly. Metroid Prime is still amazing. Outshining even most modern day FPS titles and Adventure games in this generation. Metroid Prime 2 and 3 lived up to this amazing game but nothing compares to the first Metroid Prime. Along with Super Metroid, Prime is still the best game in the series.
@@GaaraSama1983 You know, Retro actually spent hours looking at online Metroid forums, and playing all of the Metroid games up to that point. They really knew what they were doing.
+Dylan Overstreet I agree with Inuyasha72 sometimes it was scary, for example in the space pirate place in phendrana drifts where it's all dark & you're energy is low.
+Inuyasha72 Metroid Fusion & Mother 3 scared the shit out of me as a 17 year old. Haven't played Prime in forever but I always get really tense and scared trying to play it. Not to mention that I'm terrible at FPS games. I love the 2D Metroid games, but when the 3rd dimension added, I am suddenly unable to take it lol.
It was at this point in the game where I finally realized what made this game so incredible - everything in this game is designed to give this ambience of loneliness, of isolation. You feel like you actually are on an empty planet, completely alone, and that feeling is what makes this game - and this series - so special.
almightybooda Man, fuck sheegoths. Especially the big ones. They're some of the few videogame monsters that make me just turn on my heel and nope the fuck out of an area as quickly as possible.
Ah, the feeling of discovery at Phendrana Drifts. The music, the mood, the mystique surroundings and the huge areas to explore = Magic. Probably the best winter world/area made in any game to this day.
One of my favorite games period, what I loved about this game was just wandering around scanning stuff, listening to this beautiful music. The graphics, even on the GameCube imo they still hold up to anything out today. I can't say enough great things about this game!
Never have I seen such a positive RU-vid comment page. I'm glad so many others share the same thoughts. The impact of the Metroid Prime, and that moment of entering Phendrana Drifts is very unique. Metroid Prime remains my favourite video game of all time. After playing games for over 20 years and now working in the gaming industry... it's still remains the unrivaled in my honest opinion. Every time I look at the box art on the back of the title, the first image you see is Phendrana Drifts and immediately, the melody feels present. Open, pale blue skies. Gentle flakes gliding through the air. Ice cold water flowing between the snow covered rocks... and those wild creatures that look like a hybrid between a turtle and a dinosaur. With a shell made of thick, transparent ice. Love it.
agreed on everything you said, they don’t make games like they used too, its sad to see that happen, I’m currently right now playing thru the game and the whole game is just phenomenal , this game is def my favorite, and i like the music soundtrack ! Thats a bonus
@@quackpoppa I'm not sure why there are so many grammatical errors in my comment, including "The Metroid Prime" lol but I'm glad others agree with the overall opinion :)
Especially since there are two morphology scans that if you don’t scan them up to a certain point in the game you won’t be able to get the chance ever again.
I feel like the only person who thinks that the Crystallites (the little bug-like enemies with icicles on their heads) are cute. They kinda look like they're wearing party hats. :D
There’s something so lonely and desolate yet comfortable about Phandrana Drifts. Probably nostalgia, regardless this song is still outstanding. One of my favorite video game songs, especially that opening.
I really enjoy the original metroid games but there's just something about the primes that I LOVE. It's just so immersive and the music like this just...makes it perfect. I can't even recall how many times I've played through the prime trilogy. Here's hoping we get more like them.
i wish that could happen. but this was the best single player in its time. kids today probably wouldnt know how good it was unless they've played the trilogy. when did this come out like 2003, 2004? this was one of the only single player games my brother ever played. im glad i got the chance to relive my memories of this game. despite how much the trilogy was.
Christopher Kariotis i know right metroid prime was good when i played it at like 6 or 7 but scared me in the water levels, but it seems nowadays all the games are rushed and could have a lot more potential then they already do. It's the publishers rushing the developers ruining these great games the C.o.D series is one it was good at the beginning when it was based on real war, but once they started making up crap like world war three and an artificial intelligence terrorist attack(seriously treyarch you could have been more creative) they could have at least changed the name of the series if they were making it semi modern semi futuristic warfare. im getting off topic what I'm trying to say is the publishers only want money they build all this hype and release these buggy games that aren't even fully made to the developers liking, and developers don't care about what the community thinks ,which is good because everyone bitches about something, they make a game that they themselves would like to play. All I'm saying is i agree and stop and think is that new game worth it or is it actually just crap.(the last thing is fact while most of the rest is my opinion.)
I've played this game a few months ago on my gamecube. The first time I heard this music I've stopped playing just to listen to the song, it is really beautif. It is peaceful yet a bit sad and you feel lonely while listening
This song holds so much memory for me, on top of being an incredible atmosphere of the cold. Metroid will always be one of the most iconic games for its ability to emmerse someone so fully into an environment. What Id give if my brother and I could play games togethet again...
so it was 2023, a whole 20 years after I fell in love with this OST and track in general and I only just realized there was a vocal sub track as part of it and its blown my mind, Like how did I not hear it all these years??????
Man this song, gives me tears every single time i watch this... So many memories. Im sad that it is over now.. I want everyone to just listen to this song, but you can never truly experience it if you didnt play it as a kid. Thanks for uploading this.. It means alot. TTTT
It's so weird, I can go years without hearing a single song off this OST but I can recall it almost perfectly in my head. This game really had an impact on me growing up. I absolutely love this track in particular.
Man I can't wait to do a full chronological playthrough of the whole Metroid series including Prime 4 and Dread in a few years. It's gonna be AWESOME!!!
i own a 12 year old copy of this game. ive had it since it came out and it is my favorite video game of all time. this game did for metroid what ocarina of time did for the legend of zelda. i could play this game tomorrow and end up beating it in about 8 hours. i will never get the same feeling from a game that this one gave me. this is up there with games like ocarina of time, gta san andreas, halo, and super mario world as one of the best games of all time. it has to be. you cant find a bad review of this game from a notable publication.
***** of course i have played super metroid, but i think prime did more for the franchise than super metroid did. it took the metroid franchise, known for the 2d sidescrolling adventure genre, and brought it to the 3rd dimension, a whole new playing field, and did it well. for me, super metroid made a ton of improvements to the original game and enhanced what was so good about it, but metroid prime was a total reinvention of the franchise, starting from scratch and building from the ground up but keeping all of the hallmarks and traditions that identify it as a metroid game, and despite what a lot of old school metroid fans will tell you (i understand you are not one of those people), metroid prime maintains the feel and atmosphere of a true metroid game. the people who will try to tell you otherwise are just nostalgic for the 2d graphic style and didnt accept the change. that being said, i love super metroid. i think its awesome and its a masterwork of a game. that is clear, but i think it comes in at a close second for the greatest of the metroid series.

***** Can´t agree with you more. Metroid prime is a fine game but here i see something lacking, something that a 2d game had and this one lost it for improved visuals, i think you understand me.
tbh it doesn't really fit a fight to the death, it's more like travelling through a beautiful snowy landscape i'm not saying it sucks, but let's be real, it's really an "environmental background" song
I live in Iowa, and we're currently having a "bad" blizzard (bad in quotes because I actually enjoy this weather), the snow is up to my knees. All I could think about was role playing in Phendrana Drifts as a kid, which led me here. Such an underrated game, or series in general.
Strangers wrath soundtrack then Metroid prime for 1st and 2nd place. Oh the memories when I hear these tracks from these 2 games. Playing with my kids was so much fun.
The Metroid Prime games have some of the most amazing mood-setting, location-appropriate music like this and the Torvus Bog from MP2. Freaking love this trilogy.
Phenderana has ingratiated itself as _THE_ snow theme for me. It doesn’t feel right if I don’t have this song somewhere while I’m going up and down the slopes on my snowboard
Whenever it snows i always try to play this. Makes me feel like i am in the game itself. Especially with the Winter Storm in the east coast right now ;)
I got this game for Christmas 2002 and never passed like 5-8% until I started replaying 2 weeks ago. I beat it today. The music for this area got me instantly
