Yesterday i sadly read, that Morris Pert - the drummer in the blue shirt - passed away in April 2010 at the age of 63!! So R.I.P Morris! Your music and performances will outlive!
Ommadawn zusammen mit Tubular Bells und Hergest Ridge spiegeln die Genialität Mike Oldfields wieder. Niemals wieder hat er je etwas ähnlich geniales geschaffen. War damals auf seinem Konzert in Münster, muss 1979 oder 1980 gewesen sein. Auch die Sängerin passte sehr gut zu dem Klangbild. Zuletzt habe ich Ommadown zu meinem 2007 bei der Nokia Night of the proms gesehen. Es war eine absolute Überaschung für mich, das er das gespielt hat. Emotion pur. Hat noch jemand Erinnerungen an seine Konzerte?

Until I discovered youtube, I believed that Mike Oldfield was simply a brilliant and talented musician who spent his life mixing stuff in a recording studio. (Sorry, Mike!) I never believed anybody could do this stuff live - that's remarkable - and not a score in sight!
@genesisrock43 yes, and although i saw the film in the eighties, i got the music record only a few years ago. He/she did not only compose the theme, but a wonderful record for the movie, with more/other tracks than used on the movie. So there are two editions: the soundtrack with tracks you hear in the movie, and the more interesting Clockwork-Orange record with more tracks and a booklet with interview.
I thought it was Kenny Everett>> LOL Brilliant all three parts, I'm a great fan of Mike Oldfield since 80's Listened to his music while i was down the Falklands in 83 & 85. Class Pure Class Music better that the rubbish out now. If you like this then you will ilke Jean Michel Jarre as well. Trev
Morris Pert is still around and he haven't changed that much, still got the side-burns, but has turned grey, though. Anyway, this was a great performance!!!!

Had this version on DVD since it came out. The video is not in sync with the music and I think this version, though great with the Vocoder and drum machine, is not as one the ball as the Knebworth 1980 one. Pert, though a gifted percussionist, really seems to be hitting wildly and Mike Frye is almost inaudible. The point of Ommadawn is the *rhythmic* ending with a continuous beat. That is given here only by the drum machine and Pert is not playing along but simply being avant garde. Of course, Oldfield is brilliant here, no surprise, but still the drums are badly miked (applies to the whole concert) and the percussionists not playing the rhythm is a sadness.
i loved listening to Mike Oldfield and JMJarre in the 80s, but it's Mike Oldfield i still hear, more and more again. Jarre is so boring against that. i think the mathematic spheres s of Jarres sounds were fascinating then (if i had heard of wendy carlos, i had prefered his music). My feelings, my opinion.
