@Lerbete i don't care where you're from....nobody, nowhere, was standing up to 1980s Mike Tyson. I'm sure men from your country wasn't fking with him either
Exatclty, Tyson really have a great pure heart, god bless that man. 🙏 Extreamly intelligent person. Prime Tyson would destroy every heavyweights in history. you all know thats True!!
I can remember Tyson was accused of fighting bums. Evander and Lewis was the best fighters he fought. Boxing was dominanted smaller weight classes in the 80's. Leanard, Hearns. Hagler. Duran was the best fights during that time
@@kekejohnson687 he was but he fought the best there was. He knocked out Larry Holmes who continued to fight for 14 more years and was never knocked out again even though he fought some big names like Holyfield and Mercer. A lot of other fighters he fought were just never the same after fighting Tyson. Please type of brutal knockouts really do a number on a fighter's career. Biggs, Spinks, and Thomas above come to mind. Biggs was an Olympic gold with an undefeated pro record before he fought Tyson. Spinks beat Holmes twice and a lot of experts predicted his awkward boxing style would confuse Tyson. Either way, after 1989 Tyson was never the same. He fired Kevin Rooney and his defense disappeared. He lost his first fight the following year and the rest is history.
@@MiscellaneousMike81 Losing his mentor to death and firing Kevin was literally history altering. Can you imagine if his mentor had continued to live and a young Tyson kept his head on straight?? I believe he could literally still be fighting today and still be undefeated. At 56, he's still training and he looks Naaaaasty......
I met him at a boy's home. He taught all of us boxing. He could take 40lbs dumbbells and do boxing techniques. He would only talk about Tyson if you asked. A great man.
I'm pretty sure the actual figure would be even less. You're saying 8 million people in this world would need more than one of his haymakers. I seriously doubt that
Yes, sadly Dee is correct. The last great fight of Tyson was Spinks in 88. After that, personal demons took over and he fired longtime trainer Kevin Rooney and was never the same. He won his next two fights against Bruno and Truth Williams, but watch those fights. He was still good, but no longer one of the all time greats. He stopped moving his head and became a purely offensive fighter. His next fight was his first loss to Douglas and the rest is history.
He actually did. He was out on his feet and the fight was stopped. I'm sure that's what Mike was referring to, but what a warrior's heart Pinklon Thomas has.
@@mrt445 good point. Just rewatched it to make sure. He got up but Angelo dundee grabbed him as he stood up or he very well might have done a Trevor Berbick.
Most boxers would rank their favourite knockout as one they did easily. The fact that Tyson has picked this guy is because of the difficulty in achieving it. The man is just so full of respect . 😊
And what Tyson said to him after the fight...he told him it was his pleasure to give him a shot at the title, cause he deserved it. He always showed such great sportsmanship, respect and care for his opponents. 🥲
I was at this fight. I always considered it one of Mike's best because of the way he put so many punches together from so many different angles. This was Tyson at his best and Thomas towards the end of his career. Both true warriors!!
I disagree about it being the end of his career. He always looked older than he was, but Thomas was near his peak at 29 years old and continued to fight for six more years, for a total of around 20 more fights. This fight took a lot out of him though and he was never the same again. Perhaps that's what you're referring to.
@@MiscellaneousMike81 I can completely see why you would say that. I knew he wasn't old but I didn't realize he had another 20 fights. I knew he fought Holyfield and Morrison and it seemed to me he was waining after Tyson but you are 100% correct. He still had a pretty robust career after Tyson. Thanks for educating me my brother.
@@hardhittn8063 anytime, brother. Thanks for being cool about it, unlike many others. There's definitely truth to what you said. He was never the same after Tyson, but that happened with a lot of people who had brutal multi round fights with Tyson. Biggs and Ruddock come to mind. I love talking boxing.
@@hardhittn8063 for the record, my motive was defense of Tyson's career. I'm a huge fan and believe pre-89 Tyson was underrated. I know he faded after the Spinks fight when personal demons caused him to make career altering decisions like firing Kevin Rooney, but people downplay his prior success by claiming he never fought anyone in their prime who was worthy. That was my motivation for sharing my opinion, not to be a know it all.
@@huntexlee No, you both just stated the truth in a different way. Mike Tyson continues to impress me for 35 years now. He's probably my favorite man walking the planet. I love my father and the other men in my family, but Tyson deserves the accolades he's finally getting today after going through the hate grinder for so many years. I've always loved Mike and never bought into the hate. Would always cheer him on since a kid from the 80's.
Mike said he threw 17 knockout punches straight to this man’s chin and he took them all until the last one. Even one of these punches were knockout punch as I cannot believe this man took this kind of punishment .what an honor to be recalled by Tyson.
Absolutely the goat. As more time passes people, more people will come to this realization. He is such an amaziing man. From his childhood, to Cus, to his death and 80's championship run, to his prison sentence. Comes out and the media makes him a savage and he stays real. Takes life changing psychedlics that starts to change his ego and reflection of himself and the world. There is only one Mike Tyson. He was born with the spark that Cus fanned into a roaring blaze. What an amazing answer to the question. So much respect to another warrior from our greatest warrior. The true Ali predecessor is Mike and Ali knew this.
Mike has become the master of his ego. Anytime someone tries to ask him of his glory he makes it about respect for the other guy or other persons situation. Only time he fully allows the ego anymore is with how brutal and dangerous he was…which isn’t boasting it’s just facts.
It honestly amazes me. For over 35 years Tyson has been my favorite dude on the planet. Now his ego is impressing me as much as his physical ability. Cus really raised a magnificent person and Tyson managed to harness it all and develop this current ego over the years. What an amazing answer to the question given. He was truly born with that spark that got fanned into a roaring blaze. Tyson always had a heart on him and respect. Rasing sweet innocent pigeons as a kid and it flipped a switch when that dude ripped ones head off. Tyson was born to meet a guy like Cus and then go through the hell that he did and all the psycodelics he's taken to reflect on the man that he's become. It's magnificent to watch and listen to such a man.
Amazing how Mike's favorite knockout isn't the ones where he brutally KOs ppl with 2-4 clean hits, but it's the one that shows how tough his opponent is
I was 12 when he first lost the title. You better bet I cherish my memories of watching all those Tyson title fights on HBO back in the day sitting on the floor really close to the tv. Absolutely the most exciting few minutes on television back in his prime.
Pink was a hell of a fighter, hell of a chin. And hell of dude. Once sober and shit, he gave back to helping at-risk youth for yearssss. I met him doing a year in a juvenile program in Florida back in the early 2000’s. At the time he would have a group he’s kinda pick to train. I was one of them. That man changed my life in so many ways. Gave me an outlet and a lot of others too. Hell of a dude
He is still actively training now too, he even travels to Ocala gym to help boxers there too. Glad to know that you came here and gave him his flowers. Much respect to you
His answer is just as impressive as his physical ability and Pinks chin. Tysons ego is on point. What an awesome man and answer. So much respect toward another warrior from our greatest warrior.
I am so lucky to have grown up watching my fellow Brownsville Brooklyn Brother defeat Giants and Warriors who deserve the utmost respect!!! #TheManInPink
When I saw the Pinklin Thomas fight, the way Thomas looked when he was getting hit reminded me of Richard Pryors bit about the drunk guy who gets into a fight every weekend but never wins. Not that Pinklin wasn't a good fighter, but just when Pryor says "oh you going hit me MFer, you fucked up now".
Pinklon Thomas was saying after every punch which way should I go George which way should I go (Talking about which way should he fall on the canvas 😂😂😂😆😆😆
Pinklon thomas is the goat because he took that many punches from a monster...a beast when should be down after 2 punches from this guy hes extraordinary
That is the best answer to this type of question , hes shut more lights out than the national grid yet he shows his admiration for the man who had heart and took a lot of what he dealt out , least vain answer he could have given
