For those of you who are just getting into the M151 series of 1/4 ton trucks you will come to find they run much better with the air filter intake tube attached to the carb.

When I was in the Army and before we changed over to the Hummvee I asked my Supple Sgt how much does the Army pay for a new Jeep he looked it up and said 28K . Now this was back in 1988, said they cost this much because all the stuff they had to do to make it water proof so the Jeep could still run even when the engine was under water.

I got my first military driver's license for the M151. We had to do this reverse serpentine course with a trailer and I still have no idea how I passed. Very fun to drive. Funner than a humvee, not as fun as an M113A3 (but way easier to PMCS).

Damn! That's an old Marine Corps jeep, can tell by the "USMC" & serial number on the data plate. Busted a knuckle or three on those way back in the day. I remember them painted green when I was in back in '77, all the ones we had were from '66-'68. That didn't last much beyond that as we painted them USMC 4 color camo a few years later.

We used one exactly like this to get around our farm and it was a beast

Very cool to see one of these rare beasts running! For anyone wondering why they are rare I believe it is because the millitary destroyed them due to the 4 wheel independent suspension being unstable. Correct me if I am wrong.

So the first series of these (the M151s and the M151A1s) were easy to roll over. They had independent suspension and if an inexperienced driver took a turn too fast, the rear wheel on the inside would tuck under and it would roll onto the occupants. Dozens of fatalities occurred every year. Still, the 151s and A1s were surplused out by the DRMO and hundreds ended up with civilian owners. Most of the ones in private hands now are the early unsafe versions. The M152A2 had safety improvements that fixed all the issues but by then the government had a policy to destroy them after they were released. They did this by crushing or by torch cutting them in half. People would re-weld the halves together so the DRMO cut the bodies diagonally, a big "X". Ironically, and with typical government logic, this meant the only ones on the road were the old death traps...
