Misophonia Treatment - NRT and Trigger Tamer App

The Neural Repatterning Technique is a treatment method that gently reduces the misophonia reflex by changing/rewiring the brain connections that cause the reflex.
This technique was developed by Tom Dozier and has been shown to be very effective in certain cases.
The specifics of misophonia are different with every person. Depending on a few key parameters, this may be an effective treatment to reduce or even eliminate a misophonia reflex reaction.
The NRT treatment has been automated with the Trigger Tamer app. You can get professional help with this treatment or watch the free online tutorials.
See misophoniatreatment.com/trigger-tamer-app.

I need this treatment so bad- my parents are now in their 80's, near the end of their lives. I love them more than I could ever express in words. I, unfortunately, can't be as close with them as I wish to be because of my severe misophonia- my triggers are eating noises, especially my parents'. This has been the case since I was around 9 or 10. It saddens me so much. I long to be closer to them, I long to be able to spend time with them without having to get up and leave so often. I'm so beside myself with pain because of this.

@@sup7123 I have some earphones called dbuds that hang on a little cord around my neck and any time I am finding mouth/nose noises unbearable I pop them in and it cuts the sound out but I can still hear people talking etc. They have been a lifesaver. The kitchen extractor fan if you are in someone's house is also super helpful.

No I totally know what you mean. I can't connect with people because I can't stand listening to the noises they make XD I fit into the "mouth sound group", so some peoples way of talking can effect me. And how am I supposed to get to know someone I can't even talk to? Also, what if they are an obnoxious eater? That would mean I could never share meals with them which is an important part of bonding. I may not be able to even stand their presence as their breathing patterns could leave me feeling like I'm going to smash a window or have a panic attack. I couldn't kiss them because wet mouth sounds are triggers for me.... It's actually horrible to think about....I'm almost certain I'll be single forever

I suffer from what I know about myself. Only some people annoy me when they eat, while others don't. I live in the Balkans where people are healthy and strong. After hard physical work, for example working in the forest where you hand over 50 tons in one day, the feeling of misophonia disappears. The feeling of mythophony is strongest for me when I'm doing nothing. In general, when you don't do anything physically, you become nervous, you are dissatisfied, and misophonia further increases this. My advice, when you feel anger from misophonia, do heavy physical work.

Ever since I was a small child I have experienced extreme reactions to every day noises. Sniffling. Nail biting. Someones gums and mouth clicking when they're talking on a video and needs a drink of water 🤬, or the test I took for 2 hours in school and one kid had a runny nose and every 2 seconds made a snot slurping sound. I jabbed my sister with a fork for chewing with her mouth open at 7 years old. All this time I thought that my brain was somehow defective. Or I had just had anger issues. This gives me hope that I can fix this. I hate the way my body feels when I hear these noises and I am so grateful that there is a way to help it! I hate asking the people around me to stop making noises. It isn't fair to them.

Hi guys... First of all this video is truly amazing... Hats off to the gentleman who is paying attention towards the problem that can hardly be understood by people who don't have misophonia.. I am really very happy to see that people are being aware about this issue.. As per my thoughts.. This is worst than cancer.. I know should not think in this manner... But when I was having this and didn't know about that I used to curse myself.. I suffered a lot... The point of saying these things is 'now I can manage' after 4 years of having this I went to a counselor... As it is the issue manier people don't know.. She thought I have anxiety issues or OCD... But she finally helped me with a therapy named NLP.. I don't know the full name of NLP.. But it works on our unconscious mind she told me that 90℅ of my problems will fade away... For that tym it was true... I didn't even realized that someone besides me eating so loud... Untill I made to realized... For now things are still better... So I would suggest you all meet up with a counselor...talk about it.. Ask about NLP.. I am not sure about how effective it would be in your cases but yeah in my case it helped me a lot... I read comments.. I can feel each and every words of your cz I had gone through it... Misophonia affected me in many other areas... It ruins the relationship with my parents..affected my self worth self confidence and so on ... Well I don't really comment but this time I think I should share my experience... Think about it and forgive me for my grammatical mistakes😁..All the best! love from India❤

When me and my current boyfriend got together just adored his whistling and vocalized that many times, but as the months went on it became more and more of a trigger and now I tell him to stop it when he does. It makes me feel awful but its just so breathy, if he was better at it and it sounded smooth I would probably still adore it. That and his chewing. The same with my mother, her whistling and chewing. Growing up I always ate dinner in my room (luckily dinner wasn't so formal in my house so it wasn't a big deal). I honestly thought this was just the norm and that everyone would get that angry over one thing or another for years.

Hi, thank you for all you teach me with this presentation. I knew today about Misophonia as my husband got other information and send to me, couldn't believe, after all these years nobody can say now I'm a maniac. I'm 60 , and at the age of 40 asked to do audition measure because I wanted to know what kind of noises I can listen, then the professional told me I can listen +25000 decibels and her diagnosis was painful-hyperacusia . I try to find tampons to filter the noise but not even those use for pilots are good because they filter words level but not what I need. The 1st detecting my problem was my dad : one day he was watching B/W TV and I was in the kitchen making dishes , then he come to me and asked if I was watching TV o r making dishes, I said obviously I'm making dishes , and asked why and he answer that all the time the tv had strips I was telling him, please fix the horizontal, please fix the vertical... Yes I can listen all kind TV with tubes... After that I start paying attention and discovered when I was walking in some commercial neighborhoods with a lot of people I become upset, bad mud, irritable, also in big meetings, or where there is metallic music special the guitar sound I will love to crash them sorry but those are my feelings , never did it...I'm not happy in the cinema if the picture can not take my to it''s world because the paper noises, people eating, or coffing ... It's very bad when I have to disseminate my upset if someone eating close to me has problem with the tooth I can support the clack, clack I had to look and I found in China silent mouse because I can not effort sometimes the click... Any how thank you , what you say that we feel like that rubber band in the body is 100% truth , and all you explain will help me with my family and friends to understand what happen is nothing that I do because I want.

I want to share my experience using Wim hoff breathing technique with cold baths. It helped me to stop pills because i had very often panic attacks but it didn't help me about misophonia. I guess if we combine Wim hoff technique and pavlof experiment ex put sounds, noises which disturbs you and at the same time do cold baths. To achieve to make cold bath you must first have somebody to show you 2-3 times how to make the breathing technique. Then when you enter in ice, you are in a survival state where your organism stops to think the problems you have (any problem) because you in a state of survival. The cold at first brings you in a high tension but after you stop the cold bath you feel relaxed and happy (cold makes organism to produce hormones which makes you happy).

Not just of sound but of movement too, like things flying in front of me or moving by too. My brain can't filter them out. They cut the chord in my mind especially if I'm in the middle of a thought, and I can't recover from it without exerting effort to erase the sound or interruption from my brain. What is that called? Ive had Miso since early childhood and my preschool age son is showing signs of it as well. from what ive read and watched throughout the years of knowing what this is i have one of the more extreme "coping" mechanisms that is rarely ever addressed. I have to mimic the trigger sound immediately and sometimes multiple times until the pain subsides. Imagine just 1 of the 30 ppl sitting near you at work has a cold a sniffs 3-5 times a minute and you have to mimic each one. now imaging its winter and half of the ppl have a cold and are making yhose trigger sounds.This is my life. My body is so worn by the time I get home everyday from my body stressing, anxiety, trying not to mimic the sounds which makes the pain worse, stiffening up... Sometimes even my own voice is a trigger. Earplugs and music only work breifly if at all each day if at all. Any thoughts?

I've read of this coping mechanism a lot. I do it too. But it's not really an option in work. Why not try the programme in the video you're watching? Other than that, try more earplugs til you find ones that work the best?

Two questions: 1: Some people are triggered by specific persons' noises,but can the opposite be true? I am triggered by chewing sound of all types from crunching to slurping, but for some reason I can't seem to be triggered by one specific person's chewing, even though they chew like a pig. 2: Is hyperattentiveness to sound a part of this condition? People spot triggers in a plethora of other noises and then don't let go, but I seem to not be able to let go of any sound. I hear all noises that reach my ears,and every individual conversation persists in my mind. It gets to be intimidating when I am with a lot of people, even if there are no trigger sounds present.
@Smurgleblurgle
@Smurgleblurgle 7 лет назад
For #1 I've noticed that too. For some reason, if a close friend (but not a family member?) is making a trigger noise, it doesn't really bother me. I think it might be part of the fight or flight response thing. For #2 I personally think misophonia has something to do with autism or the autism spectrum. A lot of the people who I know who have misophonia have other signs of autism as well.

These are normal sounds. Your response is due to an acquired reflex. You should expect people to make these sounds. See Misophonia.org or misophoniatreatment.com for help.

I've always liked birds chirping in the communal garden as it's usually quite musical and only occasionally insistent, like before a thunderstorm. Except for two months there has been a bird with a high-pitched, monotonous 'cheep' every second ( I timed it) practically without a break from dusk to dawn. I've lived here for 13 years and I'm sure I would have noticed it before had it been here - It's a tiny critter - amazing how it has the energy for this perpetual racket. It's calmed down a bit now ( so many false starts to the Spring season?)but sometimes there is a bout of it squawking urgently twice a second when it gets frenzied. The frenzy occurs when other birds (usually calm) start mimicking (also for long periods from dawn to dusk) - some kind of dominance battle going on. Needless to say, it's driven me into a state of frenzy. I have to close the window and wear ear plugs. There it goes again! and now the ratchet-sounding bird has started up too! If it didn't occur so often it wouldn't have become a trigger. The periods of calm have increased but I get annoyed almost instantly whereas in the beginning it took a while.

I hate birds, dogs, gum should be illegal, chips, motorcycles, trucks, bass radio, finger nail clippers, lip noise when u first open your mouth, fireworks, air conditioner systems from even far distances, trains, knuckle cracking, but now its not noise triggers, its even just seeing the objects, CBD is the only thing that has helped recently, and having 4 radios on in my house, and youtube thunderstorms, saved my life

And even if he reads with small sound, i feel irritation, anger and some kind of burn inside my heart.I feel like crying and it drives me crazy. Is it misophonia or some other disorder?

@tomdozier
@tomdozier 3 года назад
It may seem that way, but from my work with hundreds of people, if a trigger is small enough (short and soft), it will not trigger any response. At some point, it sounds like a click. There is a range between that and a full response trigger, though it is a small range for some people.

It's NOT that i hate ALL, sounds, well, certain, different sounds, just annoying sounds that ARE 100%, "UNNECESSARY". Like, chewing and eating with ones mouth, WIDE, THE "Eff", Open!!!! It IS IGNORANT. And UNnecessary. NOone, NOONE "NEEDS TO" eat, chew like, THAT. It IS, "an EXCUSE". That's it, that's all. .

I'm sorry to state that you should never trust a person that assures you to be able to cure your misophonia because still nobody knows where it originates from. Especially those behaviouristic based treatments. Behaviourism is outdated. Other question: why should misophonia has to be cured? It is also a gift, because you are so very sensitive to sounds what makes you a great listener. You choose.
