Almost everyone I know (college students) watch these games on illegal streaming sites bc we can’t afford all the other stuff. Numbers are much higher than they seem
Not a college student, just an old guy with a job but this is the only way I'll watch. If I had to pay for cable or a streaming service to watch the games I just wouldn't follow the sport.
Dude apply for the Hulu student plan. Thats what my GF does. Stop going out spending money on food, cook at home, buy a flesh light…boom I just saved you money every month.
I literally was paying MLB $29 a month for them to tell me I can’t watch playoff baseball on the MLB app. I am happy to pay to watch, but I’m only going to pay one party make it any more complained and I’m just going the privacy route.
Pitch clock addition has been amazing for a viewer like myself that really doesn’t watch this sport. Also big name stars that dominate the news are actively playing which is nice
Actually, having the best two players (Ohtani, Judge) in the playoffs has a bunch to do with it. For years, the best player at the time (Trout) never made the postseason.
@@robertdiepold2242 I'd guess having 3 teams from the two biggest cities in the country probably is the main factor though. NYC and LA together have something like 12 million people and I'm a new yorker, I know a ton of people who haven't watched a single regular season game but are watching the playoffs (I like to think I have something to do with that).
I've been watching the playoffs after not watching a single game all year just because of your live streams, but I'm also only watching on restreams cause I don't pay for any cable/media services so I'm not part of those ratings. Probably a lot of us.
As much as I dislike to admit that, it is not only MLB that would cherish NY/LA World Series and, generally, playoffs with those teams as well. It's also what regular, casual public tends to be more interested in. No matter if it goes subway or Yankees - Dodgers, it would be a wet dream of so many. Not to even mention the Ohtani factor.
How is that stupid lmao it’s objectively true that non-baseball fans only care about Ohtani and Judge. If they are in the World Series, it will have the highest ratings in a long time. Sorry if that hurts your feelings.
@@bentley230 no one said people don’t care about those names brother 😂 dodgers are worth 8x more than the league average and Yankees 4.5x. It’s okay as long as their fanbases know they are on easy mode. Instead they pretend like anyone could go do the same thing tomorrow and money doesn’t actually give you much advantage. MLB juiced judge’s balls in 2022 and they have no integrity, literal facts, sorry if that hurt your feelings.
The reason why early 2000s-2005 was peak is bc there was no internet, no streaming, etc. no social media for highlights. People had to watch to know the lowdown
Not to mention they had this little show called baseball tonight that was on every single night on espn.. they haven’t had a good quality baseball show in years and wonder why no one cares? Maybe bc they need to broadcast and show people to care about it..
Has anyone else come across that certain type of soccer fan that won't shut up about how "baseball is a dying sport" or how it's "time to convert baseball stadiums into football fields"? Sports are not a zero sum game! I love baseball and millions of other people not just in america but around the world do too. We ain't going anywhere ⚾️
I wish jomboy had a talkin Mets duo like Jim and Jake. Every Mets pod I watch doesn’t keep me invested as much as Jimmy and Jake keep me invested in the talkin yanks
Easy access to highlights, pitch clock, good videos like you guys and baseballdoesntexist. Not to mention some of the most intriguing teams (SD, LA, Mets, Braves, yanks etc.) Personally best season I've followed
The year they readjust their schedule to avoid NFL competition with the world Series is the year the World Series would have little brothered the Niche Football League. Ironic.
The fact Stl made that list of viewers almost feels insulting to me as a fan of the Cardinals. We have such a loyal market as long as the effort is there, and this just reminds me what poor ownership brings
The cardinals have had 1 losing season and have made the playoffs 10 times since 2007. They also have 2 NL titles and a WS. I don’t see what’s wrong with the ownership.
@@liammeyering5451 if you don’t follow the team it’s hard to understand. John Mozelak openly admitted he should have been fired after this season, we have fired 2 managers in the last 9 seasons, and potentially a third. Speaking of which Oli Marmol would rather blame his own players over stepping up for them which has caused players like Tyler O’Neil to lash out which led to him being traded for next to nothings. I believe both players one year after the trade are gone already. They blamed all of the pitching problems on Contreras instead of having a leadership approach of stepping up for him, and now he stood up and said some negative comments about the owners so everyone’s best guess is he will be traded. The farm is a dumpster fire they had a top 3 prospect in Baseball 2 times in the last 6 years and now one was traded to the rays for nothing, and the other Jordan Walker is being told he is broken and a lot of blame is on the organization. They have no one coming up that can compete with others in the division like Ely for the Reds or some one like Skenes with the Pirates. The teams behind them in the standings are getting better while the Dewitts keep saying their only goal is to shred payroll. They already announced winning will be an after thought for next season. Lastly the Dewitts make comments all the time that are anger enduring to fans. They talk about how owning an MLB team in not a profitable business venture. We fans are just fed up with the lack of effort. This team has a foundation problem and the fans are aware we are far off from being a competitor in this league with the teams identity that cuently exists.
Love the bases/outs stat. They just need to add in base running, 1st to third etc & award bases for advancing the runner with sac flys and hits or walks with men on
I made something similar to that old baseball stat too! I just called it bases per out. bases generated from hits, steals, walks, hbp over regular outs, sacrifices, an extra out from the double play ball, and caught stealing. In all the games I went to this year, the OPS was .723, OPSS was .738 and bases/out was .666 I also made a OPSS+ and B/O+
Does grounding into a triple play, like Miguel Rojas did count? Is that recorded as a GIDP in the stats? I'm pretty sure there's no separate GITP stat just because it's so rare.
Chase Utley's ability to break up double plays (rip) can be found if you dig enough on bbref. He leads by a ton for several years in a row in the mid 00s for avoiding double plays on the basepaths
Where did Salvador Perez come in with his at-bats in this postseason analytics list you went through? He seemed to be the one bright spot in the Royals lineup.
Some people don’t know that you can buy a $15 antenna and get fox, cbs, etc for free. Others know that and still use illegal streaming for convenience. Numbers are forever going to be skewed
Ratings should be through the roof for the Championship Series, especially Dodgers-Mets. because it's two major markets. That will be even higher for the World Series with Yankees-Dodgers. That, however, will be small compared to when the Yankees-Dodgers used to meet back in the late 70s-early 80s when viewership was in the 45 million range. Captive audience back then.
I've sought to understand, but jave never had explained to me, how higher ratings (aka more casuals) benefits a current fan of the game. Every other sport I like (or used to) that continues to chase more viewers also continues to become worse and worse, IMO.
Ratings are up without Houston, coincidence?! They would be very high in the northeast/tri-state area for an all NY WS but otherwise down in most other areas of the country.
You hear the reverse of the Manny quote all the time when people talk about trades. Any time the Yankees/Red Sox/Dodgers pick up a young prospect there is always the question of “will they survive the market” “can they handle the extra pressure to win” yeah I understand calling the other teams Triple A is wildly exaggerated but did we forget the quote was from MANNY FUCKIN RAMIREZ one of the most notably crazy players in history. It just Manny being Manny
More people could be watching if they could get their games on regular cable instead of a sports networks extra pay for channels. There have been a couple game so far that weren't able to be seen by regular Canadian cable watchers cuz sportsnets free channels were takin over by hockey
I feel like that statistic should also include if a base you collect also makes another player collect additional bases. If grounding into a double play counts as -2 then it should be also count other runners getting bases as well. For example a single that allows a runner from second to score would be 3 bases collected. It feels a bit like the plus/minus stat from hockey.
I would imagine the Dodgers bring in more viewers than any other team at this point. And then Yankee and Mets fans combined no doubt dwarf the Dodger fans. Not surprised that 2017 was the last big ratings year. Yankees, Astros and Dodgers were in the LCS that year. Houston is a massive market that I think people sleep on.
Total average would favor a leadoff hitter over a guy batting 2nd, 3rd or lower in the order since it penalizes GIDP. A leadoff hitter can never hit into a GIDP in his first AB.
How does total average account for a fielders choice? If a batter comes up with runners in 1st and second and hits it to the 3rd baseman who gets both leading runners, that batter should be given 2 outs with 1 base. Maybe it does idk. Also I’d love to see that stat but for pitchers. So i guess a negative number would be good on that case.
@@Zo3yXthanks. I keep wondering what’s going on in Japan. At Dodger stadium main gift shop, there’s typically 20 or so bags of preordered merch, that tourists pick up and load into suitcases.
This is anecdotal but I found a bar that opened early here in Tokyo at 9am just to show the game. About 40 people were there, probably half and half Japanese - foreigners. Every single person was rooting for the dodgers though lol
jimmy I love what you do and say.. I even root for you on watchin' playin' guts.. but your jomboy media team anti dodger bias so lame.. the dodgers are literally feeding you guys.. make a dodger hire
Ohtani, Aaron Judge, NY teams doing well, Philly getting shit on and the Padres having real beef with LA. It's been an eventful playoffs season and I'm not surprised more normies are paying attention
Really just sounds like Manny is exaggerating to make a point and also call out small market teams for not EVER EVEN ONCE going for it. He’s not too far off either. He’s just making a point and he knows he has to be ridiculous to be heard
I mean I get what Ramirez was trying to say. But holy shit what a bad way to say it. Calling all those guys AAA just comes off as so disrespectful to what they’ve accomplished and all the work they’ve put in. He makes a decent (DECENT) point, but what a terrible way to word it.
I mean its new york (both teams) and freakin LA with Ohtani. Of course ratings are up. Also can we just think about how fuckin sad "small market teams are good but we dont want ALL that," is???
The National League is carrying the postseason. the American League playoff bracket has been a snooze fest the alcs would’ve been more hype if we got a Astros , Yankees alcs matchup
I have been looking at the Yanks BABIP in comparison to their xBABIP and their opponents x/BABIP. The Yanks have underperformed their xBABIP in 5/7 games this postseason and their opponents have overperformed their xBABIP in 4/7 including all three Cleveland games so far. Are the Yankees that bad at positioning? Are their opponents that much better? Dumb luck?
Dodgers fans be like “see! Every future hall of famer going to only NY/LA is actually a great thing! Nothing to do with ohtani or rule changes! The league is completely healthy and has no wealth disparity what so ever 😀👍 ask my $230B ownership group!
What’s funny to me is jomboy’s been using ohtani as thumbnails to clickbait for the entire season (+past few yrs), and when it comes to this episode about record ratings, where everyone knows one of the biggest reasons the ratings are high this yr is cuz of ohtani, jomboy chose his homeboy to be the thumbnail😂😂 I’m sorry but this is absolutely pathetic
Why do you think MLB and the networks are praying so heavily for a Dodger-Yankee World Series? The FOX announcers doing the Mets-Phillies series were out and out rooting for the Phillies because of the Bryce Harper factor. They wanted Ohtani vs, Harper in the NLCS. They think star power is what draws the casual viewer to watch. Now they are pulling for Ohtani and the Dodgers to face Judge and the Yankees. It so obvious. But, baseball is not football or basketball. So the star nonsense shouldn't even be thought of. baseball fans watch the games because they love the sport. The casual viewer doesn't watch a 7 game series.
