Late to the game here, for anyone recently getting goggles and looking at this, Just picked one up last week(HDZ Goggles arrived a few weeks ago). Fun little quad. Been bashing the crap out of it in my condo, BlueJay 96kHz, tri-blade props and changed out the connector to BT2. My new go to for some fun flying. The changes get me 3-3.5 min, but I'm not as good as NB so there's that. Might convert to 75mm when I run out of 65mm spares lol. Thanks for the video (Despite me being almost a year late). Some good info in here to help this little guy perform better. Cheers!

Hey Nick, Great review. It seems we are destined for digital 65's which is great. In terms of modifications, I tend to try the least effort mods first, and in your case would go to the tri-blade props for the first test. Although relatively new to whoops, swapping frames has not been a problem at all and that may end up being the best option. Still, just yanking some props is easy... ...and as you mention, the Mobula 75 HDZero version is great and seems to be similar in cost, although a bit too heavy/powerful for indoors. Hmm, test the props THEN the 75mm frame for indoors? Enjoy!

Haha. After flying 2 packs through mine, I agree with every single thing you said in this review. Everything from the power lead being too short (good tip on cutting the heatshrink!) to the ELRS antenna getting in the way of the camera. You were dead on with this one. I saw Ryan Quellet's video where he suggested flashing Bluejay 96khz to the ESCs, as well as using the triblade Gemfans. I'm planning to try those things. In the stock configuration, I find it very fun to fly indoors because it's so controllable, but I know it's going to struggle outside. Main immediate complaint is flight time, it's just too short. I think the 96khz should fix that, though.

I know many will say that it is to heavy, but I plan to toilet tank the battery like I did on my UR65 with 0802 upgraded motors, and my Mobeetle. Both fly fine since I tend to fly slow and cruzy. I get 4 to 5 minutes with the 450mah batteries.

this is a great next step forward for digital fpv for 65mm and 75mm whoops. was thinking about where any additional weight could be shaved...maybe RENY motor screws and maybe a monopole vtx antenna (at the sacrafice of some vtx penetration quality perhaps and motor attachment durability)? maybe save a total of .5 to 1g doing those two things? other than that, they already eliminated motor plugs... Nick, how warm to the touch did the 300mah battery get at end the flight? I wonder how much draw/load the lite vtx puts on those small 65mm whoop batteries. I suspect a 75mm with 1s 450mah battery will deal a bit better with any extra load/draw the digital vtx places on it.

HD Zero is starting to look amazing and seeing such a small whoop fly digital is mindblowing. I wonder a bit tho, it is a bit heavier then an analog of the same size (one can hardy tell the way you fly as a pro :D), so I imagine that is why the Amp draw is over 5A a lot... and the AIO ESCs seems to be rated at 5A. I would be a bit worried to blow the board to be honest, bummer that they did not go with a 12A board since they (should) have the room for it without the VTX on the AIO.
@NickBurnsFPV
@NickBurnsFPV Год назад
The esc amp rating is per motor so 5A x 4. The osd reading is total amps. our limit would be ~20amps. yes flight still and how much high throttle we use impacts the flight time and the amp draw.

Looks like an interesting setup! But the motor and prop combo does seem kinda wrong. 19000kv and biblades isn't going to have much power, it needs triblades on the 19000kv motors at least, I bet some 25000kv motors would work great, or like you said some 0702 26000kv motors would also work great and drop a few grams. Glad to see they moved away from the solid copper antennas. Those things always felt way too fragile for my liking. If I had that thing in my hands I would likely immediately give it triblades and stick it in a Meteor65 frame. That said, the flight time/lack of power is a bit concerning. Is it just the weight? As much as I want HDZero to succeed, maybe it's just not suitable for 65mm whoops. Once upon a time I had a Mobula6 HD, and ended up ditching the DVR because it just wouldn't perform with the extra weight. Ever since then I've stuck to single board AIOs for whoops.
@NickBurnsFPV

@@jimmy0tran Sometimes pitch works better than roll, or the other way around. Sometimes we also have to give it more of that direction to get it to fly. Hi Nick, glad HM is first-to-market with this digital whoop. I think if this whoop used a GNB27 connector (battery too) it would help with the dive recovery. If I bought this whoop, I would likely change the battery connector and the canopy to the Pickle-pod type that offers more protection for the VTX. Thanks for your time.

(im new to this) is it compatible with dji goggles?

No, requires HDzero goggles or vrx. Vrx is a video receiver we attached to goggles via hdmi in

Hello Mr. Nick, I think tri blades will slightly improve the performance but rather than jumping on to 75mm frame with 40mm props I’d suggest you try the betafpv meteor 65 pro frame where in you can accommodate 35mm tri blades, drastically improving the performance yet keeping the 65mm wheel base, however I don’t think the vtx board would fit in there easily. Also I’m thinking how it would be if you use the 1002 motors you recently reviewed in there 🤔. Tri blades are a must in any case under 40mm props. Which video editing software do you use for your videos Mr. Nick?

I am not sure the vtx will fit down between the whoops in the meteor65 pro frame. I use adobe premier to edit videos

$200!! weeee doggy, I know it's HD video but that seems a bit much for something that size and capability. Makes my analog mobula 6's that I got several years ago for $80 look like a steal.

Prices keep going up, new tech is coming in a much higher prices than new tech two years ago. The days of $80 whoops might be over 🥲
@pbshooter100
@pbshooter100 Год назад
@@NickBurnsFPV Yea I don't expect them to remain at $80, although there was a time when it was normal for the price of electronics to go down over time, guess those days are over at least until we hit a deep recession. Given that we should expect prices to go up something on the order of over 100% seems to be a bit much.

if u do the math the components do add up to $200, hdzero just isn’t cheap tech yet.

At this time I may have still been using the fatshark hdo2 goggles with the hdzero vrx module. I have since switched to the skyzone 04x with hdzero vrx

weight is a little too much for a 65mm but it's a real improvment in term of technology ! the same in a 75mm with 40mm props and it will be perfect for indoor racing :) good job as usual for the review ;)

I got this mobula6. When I crash video goes out. I believe mipi connection is loose. Now even without crashing video goes out...making it unreliable. Anyone know what I can do? Maybe acrylic on mipi connectors? Idk 🤔

I would put a light skin over the connector to the pcb of the camera and AIO.

It’s no way this quad gone hang with the original mobula 6 on a Whoop track , that extra weight gonna play a major difference, performance over everything, I’m sticking to analog on my whoops elrs
@NickBurnsFPV
@NickBurnsFPV Год назад
of course not. Whoops are highly weight sensitive, but for an hd whoop this is one of if not the lightest in its category.
