Shame you get so many negative picky comments. I appreciate very much your videos, having learned a lot from them. The four ways project is eagerly looked forward to each month; i hope you are all able to keep it going.

Patrick

Definitely agree with trying new things. There is so much out there to try; I'm guilty of wanting to do all the projects. The 3D printer can either become another rabbit hole or a useful tool depending on how much detail you want to delve into it. For making shop jigs and other useful items, the only thing you have to worry about is having to spend time learning more than you wanted to know about the printer when it gives you troubles trying to print what you want. Cool images from the AI, that was pretty cool. Your advice about getting involved with others is absolutely spot-on. Even if one doesn't have clubs or other groups, there is so much on-line presence that one can become involved with. I learned that early on when I got into woodworking -- back in the old days when Usenet was a community tool. There are a lot of groups out there with whom one can interact. Saw nothing wrong with your comment on segmented turning -- it is a part of the craft that some really get into and just doesn't match with other craftsmen want to do. You merely stated your preference; nothing wrong with that.

Good plan, it's hard to put a finger back on that can be degloved in an instant.

Great video Mike, I find funny how each of our spoken words gets distorted to a negative.... I've watched segmented video you did and didn't see any negative.... Looking forward to 1st of may

I just ordered a silicone ring to try out …. Another RU-vid channel did a video on them and recommended that you get one with “channels” cut into it. I guess the channels help with keeping moisture away and also make them easier to break if caught 🤔🤠
@johndesormier8099
@johndesormier8099 17 дней назад
I also think silicone rings are really good as well. No risk of the ring hurting you and you don’t risk dinging your real one up. I started wearing one when I caught my ring on a board next to the one I was moving.

While I am not often critical of what I see on RU-vid I have on occasion commented on something I consider to be a safety issue. I do hope that in making these comments I am polite. I believe that because most commenters are not writers sometimes their comments do not come across exactly as they planned. Apparently many comments are not proofread so the meaning and intent sometimes becomes unclear. My point is that a negative / impolite comment received is nothing to get overly concerned about. Concerning the comment about segmented turners, I am one and saw absolutely wrong about your statement. Segmenting does take a lot of prep work prior to turning and it's not for everyone. Boy this sure got long winded. Sorry. Bottom line, you do good work Mike as d most of the RU-vidrs. So I say, thank you for sharing. Have a great day and stay safe.🙂🙂

I am in accord with every point here. Nothing wrong in the video on segmenting, and good communication is a skill. I certainly check my comments before sending, and still manage to be clumsy at times; also innocently misinterpreted. People have pen friends, and many of us RU-vid friends, whom we would not wish to offend. Bernard.

Re chattering: My understanding is that you only chatter on the end grain. I don't understand why chattering can't be acomplished, like on the outside of a bowl. I turn clay pottery, too. Once the clay is leather hard, you can put it back on the potter's wheel and chatter the daylights out of it. Chattering really makes some cool patterns in clay; I wonder why you can't chatter the outside of a wooden bowl. Seems like there would be a way. What am I missing?
@MikePeaceWoodturning
@MikePeaceWoodturning 16 дней назад
End grain is harder and consistent. Grain on the side of a bowl varies from side grain to end grain.- twice each revolution. Try it and see.
@johnautry6851
@johnautry6851 16 дней назад
@@MikePeaceWoodturning That makes sense. Thanks. With clay the entire surface is consistant, regardess of where you use the chattering tool.

Does your left hand / ring finger go forward of the tool rest? If not, then the safety risks are extremely low. Do what your experience and knowledge of the tools dictate your practice. Same with the Table and band saw. I know you have been teaching / giving turning lessons for many years. ( I've been a Sub for seven). There are many other safety issues I would be concerned with, but not from your videos.
@MikePeaceWoodturning
@MikePeaceWoodturning 16 дней назад
While I believe the risk to be low, perception s reality. I think the issue is not so much about the lathe but wearing in a shop around machinery in general.

@@MikePeaceWoodturning I prefer to be fair to my wristwatch, and take it off on entering the shop. Bernard.
