You did a good thing, lad. The first part of realizing you're not okay, is saying it. The second part, the hardest part, is getting rid of the issue. You done good.
I started playing MH seriously when world came out, before then I played the OG MH when I was like 6, anyway I started with the LS because I had just finished Metal Gear Rising. Then one time I was fighting Diablos and had already carted twice. Then this absolute maniac who joined me like only 10 seconds ago comes charging in with the lance running attack. He jumps off a ledge and finished the diablos off with that one attack. I haven't used anything but Lance since. Lance is love, lance is life.
The real endgame of Monster Hunter isn't just speedrunning monsters or playing friends. It's finally graduating from the Longsword and learn other weapons
@@aridicaexmontaudon1296 it's still the same slingshot. Like, literally EXACTLY the same. It remained unchanged while the monsters, mechanics, & the numbers did change. Technically it still is busted, but now there's other bows with strong options as well.
Hi, I’m a recovering longsword addict. I was so used to playing alone, I never understood why it got so much hate. My first multiplayer experience was with a fellow longsword player. I finally understood why tripping was such a big deal. I’ve since moved to charge blade, and my life has been a lot better now. Although I mainly use the charge blade, I still hear the beckoning call of large sweeping attacks and anime nerd move sets. Thank you for listening, have a wonderful day.
@@RubyRoseITA It was my starting weapon because of opinions like this one. Having started my MonHun experience with CB, I can say that it is as complex as you want to make it. If you just want to play in sns mode and switch to axe just to use element discharge 1, 2, and 3, go ahead. If you want to make a complex build that allows you to SAED spam every other guard point, nice flex.
As a resident of the switch axe kingdom, I apologize for these hunters’ poor techniques. Instead they should be using cfd to make an even bigger shockwave to knock even more people over.
As a switch axe hunter with poor technique I will correct my previous statement by saying please do not spam elemental discharge, instead spam upswing in axe mode.
@@jam-ui1zc I would like to take back my previous statement. This hunter possess the knowledge of the forbidden “Flip of Destruction.” Therefore we must look up to them as a true Switch Axe disrupter.
Fun Fact: The fact that Shinji's parents are represented by both of the frontier-only weapons is a subtle nod at the fact that LS-Users live under constant parental neglect . (It's a joke by the way, I used to be an LS-Main myself until switching to CB in MHGU)
Indeed it is. Only disappointing thing about it is that some monsters are bad match ups for it and you can’t constantly fly, so you end up going back to ground combat.
the true way to play is to master all weapons. started with dual blades, moved to longsword, moved to insect glaive, now i am beginning to use greatsword. its quite annoying how much hate and jokes get thrown at longsword when other weapons are way more OP and LOLWEEB but whatevs.
I really needed this. I remember being an LS main then switched to SNS and Insect Glaive, and this really represents the monster hunter community helping a noob out very well its heart warming
yeah Long Sword for me was great until GU, it had the counter with valor style but it still was kinda hard to manage it along side everything else. now it's so good it's not even fun....
Whenever I use longsword I try my hardest to focus on tail cuts, avoid the head for hammers and not trip people because I understand how annoying it is (I used greatsword in world). That being said however, I will never stop being a longsword main because I like its moveset more than other weapons and enjoy how it feels to use, an additonal reason for me to main longsword may also be the three hammer mains I play with who need someone to cut tails, but that's not the point.
@@Jaylink4474 DB is technically the best dps, but that's only if the target is standing completely still and lets you hit a weak spot as much as you want.
@@ZepTheGamer for real. You're seriously dense if you cant even be bothered to slot in a single flinch free jewel and then complain when you go online and get flinched.
The long sword is really strong but it feels like a crutch for a lot of the time. But let me tell you, the first time I started carving up a monster with dual blades my life was changed forever.
I played with them all, I can tell why people would play with longsword: it's flashy, stylish and sounds cool. But, Out of all weapons, Hunting Horn. Because toot is funnier. Also perma stunned monsters.
Also hh is literally a one man army... They say its a support no... Something that big shouldn't have that speed, something that short shouldn't have that range.... Its a terrifying weapon....
I didn't see another HH in rise until after MR 10. Now it is like at least 1 other HH per run and we are just making ugly tone-deaf music with the monster face until they embrace death
Please dear god bring back magnet spike and tonfas. Yes they were op, just nerf the motion values. Magnet spike is so fucking fun. Literally the most creative weapons they've made
I never played LS. And when my partner tried it i was like "I fear no weapon to teach, but, that THING. It scares me" I mostly play gunlance (yes we exist) switchaxe and glave. Also started to get a liking chargeblade
A fellow gunlance crackhead! I'm in the same boat honestly, never touched LS and basically 99% of my game time has been with gunlance, why annoy your teammates when you can become nigh unkillable and fly?
I played most of Rise's story with the gunlance just because they removed the old gauges and I wanted something new, and with Sunbreak released I can finally say to you all: "we do actual damage now"
Before World I played every weapon except Switchaxe, truly the filthiest weapon. It's the Longsword's Longsword, all the outdated memes from FU LS applied to it doubly and never went away. But I think the anti-LS stigma these days is just that it's easy to use, which is pretty bizarre since there are universal crutches that every weapon gets now that trivialise 99% of the game. People should sooner stigmatise things like mantles, clutch claw and wirebugs.
When I started world as my first Monster hunter game, I immediately went to the insect glaive. I didn't know about long sword until the scott falco video
I actually started with MH Rise with The Lance, had some fun spamming against low ranks begginer-level monsters but then I found Sword and Shield and absolutely loved it. The new Rise mechanics with it makes it feeling so powerful and acrobatic, Skill Swapping making it even better now. But then... I discovered the long sword. And oh, wow. How much I loved it. Countering the smit out of incoming attacks and roars, I felt invincible and in love, it made everything else crumble in disinterest. But with time, love fades slowly. I still have this weapon in my heart, but its flow has become... I don't know, too repetitive. THEN HAMMER. BIG BOOM. CHARGE, WISHWOOSH IN THE AIR ! YUS! BIG MONSTA IS STOONED ! MORE BOOM IN DA FACE! Then, that is when the Switch Axe came in and remade my world. The raw damage output, the weight, the switching through axe and sword modes, getting hooked on a monster and sending explosions to their hearts until it bursts into a launch to space... or 10 meters away, to start all over again. I started to understand why people don't enjoy the LongSword like I did : It's easy, satisfying, but not rewarding. The Sunbreak demo brought some more fun with every weapon, and I am glad I'm not stuck on the LongSword anymore. I would have missed all of this. Also, HuntingHorn is fire.
Having played hammer a few times in world i love the amount of KO damage i get in on Rises monsters when i bash their heads in with my heavy bow guns melee attack
@@DerAykac uhm. Because we like the way it plays? I’ve played every weapon extensively in all the MH games I play (which has been all of them that released in the US since 3U) and I like plenty of other ones, but none of them appeal to me as much as GL. The design, the complexity, and the methodical yet over the top gameplay of it all amounts to it being my favorite weapon to play in these games.
After using nothing but longsword in rise, this video motivated to drop it and pick up Sword and Shield and Insect Glaive in sunbreak. I have seen the light and the true fun and potential of Monster Hunter. Thanks for uploading you did a small but substantial thing for me
So I'm a longsword main, but it's not what I started with, as it wasn't around when I first started playing. I was playing through MHW for the second or third time, and someone joins my lobby, and assuming I'm an actual newbie, says something to the effect of "Hey, just tell me what quests you need help with and I'll join you!" I wasn't going to take the offer because I prefer to play alone, but I liked that they were willing to help people getting used to the game. A second or two later he follows up with "EW longsword gross, nevermind" and leaves. I had to stop for a second and just wonder at what I did wrong for the world to throw this at me...
people hate longsword cause its popular to hate i guess. personally a gunlance main, and i've never had any issues with longsword flinching me... people should just slot in flinch free for once and stop complaining
When I finally dropped the longsword, it was because I saw the switch axe, and it straight up reminded me of Bloodborne's trick weapons. Sold my longsword and picked it up immediately. I'm in love.
You don't have to resort to inferior weaponry, just to prove that you are as good as those lowly other hunters. Just be at your peak performance when playing longsword and stop caring about what others say. Remember to be yourself, don't sell your longsword, embrace it.
As someone who played like 8 of the weapons in the newest titles a lot and very seriously, including longsword, I feel partly attacked lol. I just hope people realize that there are some crazy longsword legends like Peppo and that it being easy to use doesn't mean that it's a noob weapon because the skill ceiling is very high.
@@stonedsloth1873 I don't get the point about what you're saying. I was simply pointing out that LS is not a noob weapon. If we go by what you said, NO WEAPON is a noob weapon. (Let's be real though the 3 ranged weapons and Dual Blades are honestly BY FAR the easiest) And Greatsword has great positioning skill, but the mechanical skill of Greatsword is the easiest of almost all Melee weapons. Only Dual Blades is easier mechanically among the melee weapons. And as I also mentioned above, I extensively played many weapons, Longsword is only one of them. So I know what I'm talking about. And again, I don't get the point of your comment, honestly all you said was "Greatsword is better lel" without getting the point I made.
If I had a nickel for every time a longsword main has gone for the head when the tail is perfectly intact, I'd break their switch and buy them a new one
Magnet Spike and Magnetism was also st made exclusively for Frontier. They'd need to rework that system entirely and have to add new monsters for that.
I like how each représentation is a reference to the game itself, either a event quest, an artwork or the story of weapon ( the Kelbow 😭 ), this animation was made by a true fan 🥹
I just used switch axe because my friend recommended it, didn't even touch another weapon until beating Iceborne lol. Only now after learning 8 weapons did it occur to me I didn't know how to play this weapon everyone says is broken
That's how I feel, yeah. I did solo runs of the game with Greatsword, Bow, Light Bowgun, Heavy Bowgun, Hammer, Sword and Shield, and Lance. But I still don't know how to use the 'broken' weapon.
@@why6916 Longsword is much easier to pick up though, right? I mean without someone telling me I wouldn't have known what ammo or weapon tree I should pick, could easily build something that's absolute garbage.
@@KaliTakumi yeah, but as soon as you pick sticky/slash you dont have to even learn the monsters or anything. at least you have to have good timing and know the monsters moves and take risks somewhat for LS.

Man I’m happy to say I got past my long sword addiction after world but damn I’ve been struggling to find a main ever since. Been playing every weapon and it’s looking like I’m ready to settle with sword and shield.
As an LS main I have to say, I never wanted your thanks, I will always be the villain of every hunt by carting trying to hit my anime moves, trip sword is love, trip sword is life.
I've only used long sword a few times. it wasn't really my thing. Gun Lance, charge blade, dual blades, and the switch axe are my favorite weapons to use.
Tried longsword when I hit the wall that was Nergigante with SA. Didn't catch the hang of it, but at that point, I had fully crossed over into being a gunner. LS players that know what they're doing have my respect. I just get tired of being slapped by IGs.
@@jasonkeith2832 Nergi was fun once I fully learned how every weapon worked. Fastest kill times were on SA, HBG, and CB. I need to get back into Monster Hunter, never settled my score with Alatreon and Fatalis.
Saaaaaame. We used it back when it was the worst weapon in the game by a longshot. Remember 4U LS? Shit was so bad it's tragic. Imo, Valor LS was the best version of the weapon. It was busted as shit but it also had the shortest guard point in the game, so in order to use it effectively you actually had to be good.
@@castillejan "had to be good" bro i never played LS before, crafted a half assed set and took down akantor in less time then with my main. it's busted, that i agree. it takes skill, that i do only half agree. it might take a bit of skill and the skill ceiling is waay up but at the end it's still monster hunter easy mode.
4u longsword was the best longsword it wasn’t shit at all it just wasn’t charge blade level u just have to wait for the opportunity to pull off ur combo ITS A FREE 30% DAMAGE BUFF FOR 2 MINUTES THAT SHIT BUSTED it shouldn’t just go back down to the next level ur just supposed to time ur combo for when u can mount the monster and run skills like challenger monster rages>trip>get red>mount>fat damage. There a guide to a game 3 people Curren play including me
@@Daylen151 In order to effectively play GU LS in endgame content, you needed to be consistently hitting the narrowest guardpoint in the game. It required positioning, knowledge of the monster, and good timing. Compare that to Valor HBG or Adept Bow and tell me it was 'easy mode' lmao.
I love this. I got really started with World and it wasn't until Rise that I used anything other than Great Sword. GS is still my main (nothing has ever felt better than the 3rd tier big bonk) but Rise got me trying out all kinds of the weapons
when i first picked up the game i just went straight for hunting horn lol my brother kept telling me "if you use longsword you're actually trash" so now i main charge blade.
@Pico 95 I'm a sword & shield guy in most RPGs, but the one in Monster Hunter feels a little "under-bulked" for my taste (I still like it tho), so I was instantly more drawn to CB, and of course the elemental discharge moves are what really became the salt to my popcorn, if you know what I mean
@Pico 95 Elemental phials are dope as heck! I don't think there's anything more aesthetically pleasing than slamming down my Velkhana blade and sending a wave of ice crystals out!
@Pico 95 Dude, can we be like, friends? I know it may be sudden but I genuinely think we'd get along well, and that's something considering this is a RU-vid comment section (lol)
@Pico 95 I'm assuming youre talking about Rise and elemental CB should be getting a decent buff in Sunbreak. Whether they will be the 400+ a phial that the kjarr ice CB was in iceborne? Doubt it. But they should be better than base Rise for sure.
I absolutely love how all the long sword hate has come from world. Like, before that, it wasn't really used too often. Other than occasional flinching, it didn't get any hate either, iirc.
before world, longsword was a fundamentals weapon you couldn't block or move freely during attacks, your only safety options were movement and rolling and longsword required you to play aggressive and reactive with the weapon so, unlike s/axe and great sword, you wanted your weapon out most of the time
That is radically wrong lol. LS hate started when LS was introduced in FU. You never saw the "tell that hammerbro to go pound some ass" image that was everywhere mocking LS mentality? Thing is, starting in third gen _every_ single weapon has had easily-accessible hyper armour, so tripping from teammates should never ever be an issue for anyone, ever, and since LS could only trip, not launch (hyperarmour protects you from tripping entirely, but not from launching), all the memes about it being a disruptive weapon came from either inexperienced players who had no idea what they were talking about, or people who were keeping the joke going because it was funny back in FU. For the record, weapons that can actually launch are GS, GL, SA, Hammer, Lance (pre-World), HH, CB, SnS, both guns and bow. Most of the roster in other words, EXCEPT LS, DB and IG. Of those, GS (prior to World), HH, SnS and Bow would basically never launch another player when used properly (and a gunner should know better than to take crag/stick or cluster to a hunt with unbriefed teammates), and Hammer was unlikely to due to its short reach. Due to its absolutely insanely huge hitboxes that even extend behind it and multiple high-priority methods of launching other players, SA has been the most disruptive weapon in general since it was added, though zero-sum discharge makes it not as bad from what I've heard. As for popularity, it was the most popular weapon in both FU and GU before World, and even when it was at its weakest in 4U (where it was the fourth-slowest in TA) it was still an unusually popular pick for such a weak weapon (usually weapon popularity correlates STRONGLY with weapon strength, with the top one to three weapons being vastly more popular than the rest with the exception of HBG, which players have historically been apprehensive to play despite the fact that it has also historically always been the strongest or second-strongest weapon except in 4U where it dropped all the way to... #4, still really strong). I think its continuous popularity has been due almost strictly to aesthetics, because its mechanics have been drastically changed several times suggesting it's not because it's fun to play (imo it peaked in GU, not with Valor but with Guild style).
@@jaydeejay4166 Also not entirely true. Fade slash was a big thing and it made the poke more valuable since its short animation allowed you both to hit confirm for higher-commitment attacks at a relatively safe distance and to remain aggressive but still able to side fade slash if the monster's windup animation was not what you expected. Once it became a counter-based weapon there was not much use for either of those attacks, though.
I decided to do nothing but charge blade for the first 200 hours of my first monster hunter game, because apparently I hated myself. 1000 hours later I’m still playing charge blade but I’m actually good at it now
I remember being an insect glaive main in MH4U until generations where I used the longsword don’t get me wrong I now main longsword but I still enjoy using all kind of other weapon except bowguns I can just never get into it except Bow that one’s the only ranged weapon I enjoy.
HBG + Wyvernheart is an absolute blast to play- no pun intended. HBG Wyvernheart main and there is nothing more satisfying to me than weaking a monsters face, knocking it down, then unloading an entire Wyvernheart it's face with part breaker mods on and seeing "part broken", "part broken", "part broken" all in quick succession within a second of holding down that trigger. Doing some pretty massive damage, more damage than a greatsword of similar rarity (in my experience with the one I used atleast)
@@latticeddreams Also the fact that some heavy boguguns and light bowguns basically have wyverns fire on standby at all times I love the gunlance I absolutely love it it is my favorite out of the blademaster weapons but there is just something special about being able to pull out your bowgun and instantly shoot wyvern‘s fire whenever you want as long as you have the ammo
I’ve been a Hunter since literal childhood. I played Freedom when I was 10 and Freedom Unite when I was 12, all the way up until I was 19 when I bought MHW and now Rise. I didn’t come to the game and go right for the longsword. I played with every other weapon there is and I learned about 5 of them before landing on the longsword and realizing it’s the one for me.
This is perfect with your username and avatar holy shit. But real talk, nothing wrong with LS. People who hate LS users have no idea what they're talking about- Saying this as someone who started out maining Lance and then shifted into using every weapon besides SA.
I hear the congrats, as I lay down my longsword and grab the great sword. I see positive nods as I put it aside and pick up the switch axe. I feel reassuring hands on my shoulder as I prepare the dual blades. And suddenly, nothing. As I draw my longsword again and do my thing in peace.
As a person who tried out LS for a bit, along with other melee weapons, I feel like LS mains get a ton of hate for tripping people and messing up combos, but I feel like Bowgun users do that far more often to the point where it happens every hunt. every time they shoot in my direction as the monsters charging towards me and then I die cause I can’t get out of the way, it makes me so unimaginably angry.
Bowguns are usually fine unless they spam mortars while everyone else is on the assault but Switch Axes get real bad sometimes swinging in those giant arcs, tripping is a bit of a sore spot for me because I usually play GS and I can lose a whole true charge to someone else's whiffed attack sometimes.
thank you, people love to hate on this weapon because it's popular but I'm personnaly tripped way more often by HBG, LBG and bow and I'm not getting pissed about it, peoples need to chill, moreover they really worked on the collision between player on this title, it's way better than before
@@AB-dd4jz its its mostly because the bowgun is shooting in a straight line. Thats the position they need to be in to help do damage.
