Moog ClaraVox Centennial Theremin Demo (Review in Description) [UPDATED 2024] 

I am a little disappointed but still satisfied with my Moog theremin purchase. Let me tell you why! I will tell you my honest opinion on the Moog ClaraVox Centennial. I've owned it for little over 4 months now and it has it's ups and downs.

----OLD REVIEW----
First let me explain the good things. This theremin sounds great and feels great when performing. Lots of space for tall people like me. Definitely an upgrade from a Moog Theremini. Nice RICH sound! Built in delay. The brass antennas are superb and are real quality! Has a mute switch, and I mean an actual on-hand switch! Digital and analog modes. All sorts of CV I/O. Headphone out with volume knob for practice. The wood is high quality and build rating would be a 9/10. Ever since I got this theremin I am more comfortable and play a lot better!
I am a little disappointed with the analog/Traditional mode on the Moog ClaraVox Centennial. I have Moog ClaraVox serial #1690 and I experience volume leakage, ghost touch (knob settings randomly changing by themselves), mute switch not working (only once so far), and a weird very faint harmonic like sounds when just soloing the theremin.
In Modern mode, this is all fixed. But with analog mode this trumpet patch in this video only sounds real because of the analog circuits. Modern mode is nice, but it isn't as gritty and raw as analog.
In conclusion, I am actually happy with my ClaraVox. Some of these bugs might be able to be fixed with firmware updates. I know a lot of the early serials had really bad issues. I hope they get those theremins fixed! In fact, I think Moog offered to repair them once before.
Is it reliable for live gigs? I don't have too much experience traveling with the instrument but I am sticking to Modern mode when I need to play it safe. I do stream on RU-vid and Twitch and I haven't really had any huge concerns.

"Encountered ANOTHER problem with my ClaraVox today. When are we going to think about a class action lawsuit against Moog? How can they sell a “premium” $2000 instrument and allow us customers to have countless issues with the thing? It’s really not a reliable instrument. Tomorrow I’m putting a piece of duct tape on my theremin over the Moog logo with the message “OUT OF ORDER”."

"Come on?! Countless amounts of people have multiple issues. Sound leakage, constant glitches like for me all 6 presets erasing during performance, mute switch stops working, if you leave it off for months it just stops working entirely, presets become corrupted overtime. If I were to tour with this thing, I’d HAVE to get a laptop or iPad to service the instrument like a couple times a month. When can they be liable? Everyone has the SAME issues."
"I don’t want to sue Moog. But to sell us an extremely expensive instrument that isn’t reliable sucks. To be honest, I don’t even think I’d tour with this thing unless the issues were fixed.
I’m going to reach out to Moog and see if there’s a solution to today’s problem. If I don’t get any good feedback, I may back out on promoting their logo with any of my photography and or online posts/streams. I’ll cover it up. I have encouraged others many times to support Moog before this post."
