Welcome to the Machine, Physical Graffiti, 500ms, Baba OReilley, love it. Didn't know my subsequent 37 could do that. Got to insert those patches. Great demo Dan!
This video reminds me of how uniquely awesome the Sub37 sounds. It’s unfortunate it gets compared so much to the Mini and Grandma in such a negative way, ie: being too dark and mellow. Not every Moog (or synth for that matter) needs to be bright and biting, or capable of it in the way Minis are. The Sub37 has this warm fat wooliness that no other Moog has that I’ve heard. It’s very musical and every time I play one I just can’t get it to sound bad. It just purrs in a very pleasing way. I’ve played quite a few Minis and own a Behringer D and while they sound great and classic they don’t Purr like this baby, at least not without some help. Ones not better or worse they’re just different. I’d love to see what they could coax out of this platform with more keys, more controls, and more voices. NOT a Moog One, that doesn’t crunch like this baby. One of these days I’d like to pick this baby up. Great demo, stellar synth, thanks David!
Completely agree. The Sub 37 is probably my favorite synth I’ve ever owned. It’s so deep it feels like you fall into another world every time you play it.
12:57 my fav sound of this video, it also highlights why you need fx with this thing. honestly to me the headphone jack out being bumped is moot because most would cue through their sends/returns and not this thing dry (hey i love mine but it needs a partner to really shine)
Great stuff Daniel I found a yamaha cs20m for a grand and there is this fabulous Moog for a bit more. Where i am torn. Is the beach sound and the outro bag pipe tones. Wow. I wonder if those are even possible on that old Yamaha. The moog is a hon. I just paid off my Deepmind 12 i bought from you guys and now im looking at either the Poly D or this moog. Help me Daniel Your videos are great thanks. Please ask Mason to send me the Moog as a gift. That would be nice. Lol
I would think that when the oscillators are in unison and in phase, is where the extra headroom is needed the most? They should have allowed for more headroom on the Sub37 mixer and not add it only on this model.
The patch at 10.40 min/sec. yeah, the Floyd one! Does that ship with the unit? If so, bank patch number? I’m taking delivery of one of these beauties tomorrow, and feel like a 6 year old the day before Xmas! Thanks for the video, it’s only helping with this childish excitement..
Hi Andy, the SSQ37 Bonus Sounds will be delivered by email. Just use any free SysEx app to dump the file into your synth. It will then have all the original presets as well as the bonus ones. Thanks for watching!
Hi xenious. We would be happy to send those bonus sounds to anyone who has previously purchased a Subsequent 37 from us. As you correctly guessed, just contact your Sweetwater Sales Engineer. Thanks for watching!
I'm don't think so. They are different types of mono synth. I have a CS10 which of course is totally different to the Sub37 but that's the purpose of having different mono synths. They bring different advantages to the table. I hope you managed to get a Sub37 to go with your CS20M
Hi Martin, the Sales Engineers now have the zipped file with everything saved as one file, and another folder with all of the individual bonus presets saved as separate files. There's also a cover letter explaining how to use a Mac or PC SysEx file player to send the presets to your Moog. Thanks for watching!
Matriarch is probably still in development at this point (June 2019). Different people who went to Moogfest and Superbooth have all said that Moog wasn't yet finished with the design for production. Whether Sweetwater still has a prototype or not, I'd rather wait until I hear a full production unit before I decide to purchase. (But I'm pretty sure that I will get one.)
@@michaelmalodrums9674 I think it had to do with the filter design, specifically. In any case, I trust that the gear nerds at Sweetwater will release a deep dive video as soon as they can possibly film/record it.
@@michaelmalodrums9674 I'd generally tend to agree with you, but I just got word yesterday that the Matriarchs got pushed back an entire quarter. Now slated to be shipped in October. Definitely weren't done with somethin on it...
Does the Sub37 not have the variable waveshapes of the Sub Phatty? Also can this get as bassy as the Sub Phatty? Thinking about upgrading but I haven’t seen a demo of JUST bass sounds that has convinced me it can get as nasty and thumpy as the Phatty can.
Hi Haut Strange. I'm not exactly sure what you mean about the Sub 37 (and the Subsequent 37, and Subsequent 37 CV) not having variable waveshapes for the oscillators. All of the "Sub" synths have the identical parameter for WAVE, which makes sense given that they're all using the same engine. As for being convinced, just keep watching as many Sub Phatty and Sub 37 videos as you can. Eventually, it will happen. Thanks for watching!
@sweetwater hey guys, so are there a difference of sound between sub 37 and subsequent 37? I check other compare vidoes and maybe it's recorded so, but it seemed to me that Sub 37 sounded a bit better. can you tell me your opinion as a user of both, please?
Hi REZONE. It's difficult to compare two synths on RU-vid that have been recorded years apart with different recording setups. The differences are subtle and partially have to do with headroom in the MIXER section. But I have developed sounds on one and used those sounds on the other and, if I change anything at all, it might be to change MIXER levels slightly. The better keys and louder Headphone Out is nice on the Subsequent, but you really can't lose either way.
@@sweetwater definitely!!! I love matriarch also, lol!! Can I make those presets on the matriarch by patching… I am a producer so those presets are great to start out with on the subsequent 37 and then I can design my own… on the matriarch I can make my sounds but can’t save the them.. which one should I get.. let me know!!!!
I’m torn between the Sub37 and the Grandmother. The features of the sub37 are superior but the raw sound of the Grand mother is superior imo. The sub37 does sound good but doesn’t have that vintage moog tone that the grandmother has... 🤔
Hi Seelo. That's the TC Electronic Flashback Delay set to Stereo Ping Pong. Thanks for watching! www.sweetwater.com/store/detail/Flashback2--tc-electronic-flashback-2-delay-and-looper-pedal -_Daniel_
S37 and the One. Get the subsequent 37 and don’t buy the matriarch but instead save up a while longer and get the One. That’s personally where I’m headed. You will hold onto the s37 because it a classic, and you’ll sell the matriarch in the future for sure. It’s just inherently limited and also sounds thin for a moog. But once you play with the s37, you’ll finally understand what “buttery” sounds like. And don’t let people tell you the s37 is “dark” due to the filter. It must be set to 6db and the brightness is so unbelievable and smooth. I had a hard time making extreme amounts of resonance sound bad. Plus, with per-step parameter control with a 64-step sequencer and a VST control tool, you’ll never want to play with other synths. You’ll never want another synth that doesn’t have e vst editor. In fact, this would be my “if I could only have one synth” synth because it’s a Swiss Army knife. It’s a very nice blend between vintage and modern, a modernized-vintage of sorts, whereas other “modernized-vintage” synths are god awful remakes and replicas and reissues that don’t live up to vintage characteristics that are trying to ride off of. This synth is completely original and does its own thing that you’ll never find again. All these YT demos suck by the way and don’t do it justice in terms of sound design. Yesterday I discovered how to make a spot-on overdriven B3 Hammond organ by layering 2 patches that I made. Like what even in the hell dude, it’s ridiculous. All the modulators (LFO’s) have key track so you can make some seriously weird sounds that transpose perfectly. But don’t get the older sub37 model. It only has 32 steps in the sequencer and the mixer has bad headroom.
I've never understood the hype behind synthesizers. I've been producing for the last 15+ years and of course I've used plenty of them. Most have been software synthesizers though such as Massive. I just don't get why this thing would cost almost $2000 dollars? All I hear is him playing a bunch of crap nobody would ever use in their actual music. Of course many of these sound cool but not really practical when making new music. I've always wanted to own a Moog or a really nice synth but just can't justify spending thousands of dollars on something that doesn't seem that practical. I know.. I'm stupid. 18:14 Example.. why not just sample an actual oceans sound and actual wind with real birds? It would sound 10x better and it would pretty much be FREE. That's what I mean. That patch sounded horrendous and I could only imagine the time it took to make it.
