How to assemble the MBM rear disc brake conversion kit on your Dodge 8 3/4 rear end. The instructions seemed a little vague. So I made this video.
MBM brakes is a company out of N. Carolina. They manufacture brake components for classic cars, street rods etc. A very reputable company and I think they offer great products at a great value. They don't caring a name like, Wilwood, Brembo or Baer. But the do supply good components for everyday street driven vehicles at a realistic price. Basically a good bang for the buck so to speak.
I resently had to install a rear disc brake conversion onto a clients car. He supplied the parts, and yes it was an MBM ConversionKit. This kit was for a B body mopar (Charger). Everything looked great but I have to admit I struggled a bit with the assembly.
I had no instructions, so of course I went online to find some. Great got em. Then back to the project. Still some head scratching. A little more web searching. Not much luck. I just wanted a picture of the components assembled. Just show me the end result. I have the parts. I'll figure it out.
Nope no good photos. no good videos. So I just muddled thru and figured it out. But it took longer than it should with the proper information. So I decided I would help the next guy. So I made this video and hope you enjoy it. And it save you time and fustration.
If so please , Like & Subscribe to my Channel. Any comment would be appreciated.
Thanks, Troy Kane

I took a page outta a old 80’smuscle car book . It used 87 Z /28 callipers , one calliper before the wheel and one in the rear . Only drivers side cable needing a extension cable . Big issue callipers weakest link ,the e brake lever . Went back to drums .

Are you referring to the green style bearings? Do you know what part number you used?

they need to make the backing plate in two pieces it would eliminate the need to take axles out i cut mine in half with a plasma cutter and installed in two equal pieces it works awesome

I installed rear discs on my 68 Charger. It was not easy to get the calipers on. Even after in finessed them on, the wheels wouldn’t rotate.

those look like the dreaded Eldorado calipers that always seem to 'tighten' without releasing - has that been an issue?

Hey Troy, What type of 8 3/4 axle housing is that? A, B or E body? Im looking for a rear disc brake conversion kit for my 1970 Duster but running into an issue with axle off-set. My axle off set measures at 2.15" or 54.61" mm. Any help would be appreciated. Thx

this is a B body. I did this a few years back. So I don't have measurements

Did you have to upgrade the master cylinder and proportioning valve?

I would recomend it. I would do both and adjust the brake bias for proper and safe braking. thanks for the comment and good luck

My caliper bracket isn’t threaded. Do you know the size to tap?
@troykane
@troykane 3 года назад
You'll have to look at your caliper bolts. Use a nut to thread over the caliper bolt. Use that nut to figure out the size and thread of the bolt. Once you know that, you can select the proper tap. I think it's 3/8" Fine Thread. But I don't know what you have. Good Luck

What brake rotors did you use ? The ones I got hit the bolts holding the brackets on. Also it looks like uou did not use the dust cover plate. Any advice who be helpful. Thanks Dennis
@troykane
@troykane 2 года назад
The rotors I used came in the kit itself. If you have an MBM kit you and don't have rotors, contact them. Really nice folks, they'll help you out. I did not run any dust shields. Thanks for the comment. Good luck on your project!

Rotors did come in the kit... but they hit the bolts to the bracket. If I don't use the dust shield that might give me the clearance I need.

For the install on the vehicle are you able to use the factory master cylinder or do you need to get something else?
@troykane
@troykane 4 года назад
You could use the original in a pinch. But a master cylinder made for rear disc would be recomended. The 4 wheel disc master will have large resivoir in the front and the rear. The calipers use a larger volume of fluid.
