You got a good, excellent attitude when it comes to ham radio Aaron, I love it. Easy come, easy go. Relaxed and enjoying. Thank you for sharing Aaron.

Great to see you back Aaron. Contesting is much more fun if you work with a crew of people to 1. Have fun es 2. Try to compete “ even if it’s beating last years score. Contesting alone does kinda suck 😂

Aaron, you've got it figured out! Get out early and get your radio on. I'm gonna follow in your footsteps! Totally agree on pota vs contesting. I operated with a group for wpx. Pota and contesting are each unique. 73 es tnx for sharing

Early morning is the best! Easy time to get out for a while. How’d yall do in WPX? I operated for about 4 hours and got 79 contacts. It was fun, I wish I could have operated longer. But POTA is my favorite! 73

@w4arb it was a serious mslp effort. We were WK9M operating from the Radio Ridge Contest Club station (N4SS) in KY. We had 2337 total qsos with 1037 multipliers. Had a blast. I'm still hearing high-speed cw and ears are still ringing :) My ham alert for you kept going off during the contest and was happy to know you were in on the action. Love it and can't wait for the next one. Definitely challenges my skill level. I was surrounded by ops who are way beyond where I'm at.

Sounds like fun! After a few hours, you start to hear ghost CW everywhere hah

I agree with ya. Pota is more personal for sure. When contesting it I come across someone I know, it's fun to just at least drop their first name in there or give him a big 7-3 or something. Highlight of the contest.

I think I’ll enjoy contesting more as I get better at it. That’s a totally different skill!

@@w4arb do you know what I think would be fun? A multi-op effort. Kind of like field day. I always have a lot of fun at field day.

I reverse key also. Seems easier to dit with my pointer. I like how you have the pen in your keying hand as well. I will have to try that.
@w4arb
@w4arb Месяц назад
Agreed! Reverse keying just feels more natural.

Aaron, thanks for another great video. Quick Question: Do you have the ATAS mounted to your rig or are you using a mag mount on the roof? I have an 891 and ATAS in one of my rigs and it's a permanent mount. I've got another 891 that I carry to the field and am thinking of getting another ATAS and just using it with a mag mount for activations like the one you are doing. Curious to know your setup. The 891 is a one of a kind rig for sure.
@w4arb
@w4arb Месяц назад
I have a Diamond K400 mount on my truck with a UHF connector. I don’t keep any antenna permanently installed in it, but just put it on when I use it. Works quite well! The 891 is a workhorse that just keeps going.
@dovetomarc
@dovetomarc Месяц назад
@@w4arbThanks! One quick follow up question. Do you leave the whip attached to the ATAS when off the truck and stored or do you leave it on? PS : I just subscribed to your channel. Thanks for these. 73
@w4arb
@w4arb Месяц назад
Thank you! I leave the whip attached and keep the ATAS in my truck bed (with a locking bed cover)
