Here in Virginia, I tried to get registered as a motorcycle (66 cc) but, as I had assembled the bike myself, they'd send an inspector around to check it out for a fee of $142. So I'm still known as the Backroads Bandit around here.

I have talked to the DMV in my state and you can have an engine on your bike and you can run what you want as long as the pedals are still on the bike and functional.

Luckily here in Tennessee it's legal and besides they would have no clue what to give you a ticket for either lol. Fortunately 50 cc's are aesthetically identical to the rest for the most part. T.C.A. code 55-8-101, no gears, 50cc under 😉& classifies a motorized bicycle exempt as a motorized vehicle and is its own separate classification, not a moped or motor driven cycle. All three of those have separate classifications here in Tennessee.

Interesting! Good to know. And agreed no one is going to pop off the jug and measure the displacement if it looks like a 50cc engine. Although, I did recently see someone on the motorized bike builders facebook group that had a 50cc sticker on a predator 212 and somehow passed registration in North Carolina. That made me laugh.

Police here where I’m at are just looking for Law breakers and dangerous riders an driver’s! The stupid ones thin their selfs out every day on the news 🗞️ Most Bicyclists i see here ride like their bulletproof but end up like the roadkill around here ! The business people doing business while driving home are the ones that have tried to kill me on the road.

Thanks for the video 👍Well as the only one to have crossed the country on a motorized bicycle. I can tell you ,you where wrong about most of the things you covered. I rode interstates, highways, turn pikes , causeway bridges, freeways , and bike paths . The only thing that a cop ever asked me after 8000 miles of touring was "why is the motor so small " . I love to hear grown mens fear of riding a motorized bicycle. I can't wait to do the GDMBR on a motorized bicycle. Probably going to do the east coast next year Florida to Maine or circumnavigate the state of Florida same miles. I do a trip every 2 years.

Thank you dude it's great to find someone that actually truly has experience and traveling cross country With a motorized bicycle and not having any issues I've been worried about this very same thing and I've been unsure because I don't want to cause any trouble. I want to keep that perfect record. Because I can't raise a family without it. And it seems like with all these regulations and stuff. It makes it nearly impossible. I mean That even a car has less regulations and Restriction The only requirements. you need A car license. even Though The most causes of accidents That also leads to death and the most recklness and Reckless drivers is always a car. It just doesn't make no sense It's already a hassle enough just to try to get your Licenses. Especially when you want to drive just a motorcycle not a car. because in my state you have to take both car Written test and driving test And motorcycle driving test and written tests at the same time. Before you are actually able to get your license even though they are completely 2 separate different tests For 2 different types of vehicles. that are complete opposite for each other. Especially when you have no intentions of driving a car. I mean what's the point of having to take a Car test and driving test. if your are not driving a car. But just a Motorcycle I wish that it was optional. If you're going to Only drive a motorcycle that you should just take the motorcycle Britain and driving test and That's it And if you're going to Only drive a car then then take the written and driving tests of a car. Especially when I have no plans of driving a car or even take getting a license for a car that are complete opposite form each other. And it just becomes such a hassle It's just not worth trying Don't get me on the topic of the DMV that is beyond Hell on Earth And unlike most places the DMV that Im near it takes about 10 hours before you even get to be served to take your Written test . even if the testing room is empty You still cannot go in. until they call your number And most people that are at the DMV are just getting new I d's or just renewing their driver license. That's what causes most Of the waiting. And most of those people are not even taking a test And when you think finally you are about to go take your written testing. Then You're told to leave because they're closing And you have to come back another week from now and wait another 10 to 15 hours and it doesn't even guarantee that you'll even can get to do your test Simply because you don't have time. And Because it simply takes too long to do it even if no one's in the testing room. Though you see what I mean It's just purely unnecessary and it's not worth the hard work and labor especially when you get nowhere. So I've been trying to look for other options That doesn't require you to have a driver's license for both vehicles but seems like there is no avoiding it. And there's no hope For me. I'm Do beyond my best to follow the law And I want to keep it that way but sadly it seems like I get punished for trying to obey All for something that may never even happen. That might even take you an entire year to get done. I just feel so hopeless and defeated.?😣😒😮‍💨 But think goodness there is some that's a relief

I have done at lot of research on Idaho Law. Oddly, AI, like Google's Bard or Chat GPT will answer most questions for each state. Yeah, most states are kind of arbitrary, and it does depend on the city, county, and if your officer has had a bad day. Actually, DMV, in Idaho doesn't want to have anything to do with mopeds, they don't want to be bothered. If it doesn't have a VIN, they don't want to see you. However, if you want to apply for a VIN ($75) and sign a sworn statement that your home-built 2 wheeler meets Fed standards, have at it.

In Texas 27mph max speed and 1.95hp 49cc engines I'm pretty sure that my minaralli hybrid engine and my yd100 engine and phantom engine all fall under the against the law here but as long as you go 27mph when you go by the police they don't say anything just like when you have a dodge charger with a skat pack they know that car can fly and if you open it up in front of them they will give you a ticket but as long as you drive it when you go past them they don't care about it you ought to see what the cops have down here especially the hwy patrol officers lol be safe brother and thanks for the knowledge I'll say one thing these people getting them flying down the road over the speed limit and driving the wrong way is going to get us all in trouble
@beaubrummelmotorizedbicycles
California says: 4hp or less, 30mph top speed, must have pedals and a automatic transmission, ( no manual clutch or shift gears) you get a lifetime plate, no renewal or insurance and no inspection, you self certify. all for $25. You must then have a M2 motorcycle endorsement on drivers license.
@shithead
@shithead Год назад
what an m2 motorcycle endorsement? Is it different than a regular motorcycle license?
@beaubrummelmotorizedbicycles
@@shithead In California they have M1 and M2 endorsements, the M1 allows you to ride anything with 2 wheels regardless of size or cc's. The M2 only allows you to operate a motorized bicycle, moped or a scooter or anything less than 150cc's. A normal Class "C" license allows you to operate a motorcycle with a side car or any three wheeled bikes.

@beaubrummelmotorizedbicycles
@@shithead Yes, they are. But one good thing is you get a legal plate for life (no renewals) for $25, you self certify, no inspection. You do all by mail, way better than the states that still have the silly 49cc or less rule, and a inspection.

I just wanna know have you went to CoOp or Tractor Supply an buy some of the biggest wire ties you can find and make your own plastic chains? They work in snow and ice and any off road situations here that I’ve ran across ❤warm that baby up before launching out onto the snow flats 🥶🥶🥶🥶🥶🏍️

I haven't looked into a fat tire conversion with plastic chains. I do have a studded nokian 26" tire for the rear that does fairly well, but I do prefer the clutch engagement speed of the 20 inch. Admittedly, it's now below 0F most of the time here and that makes me not want to spend much time outside despite the traction issues.

@EMNM22

In my town, the cops wont mess with you as long as you arent doing wheelies or running red lights. Which you shouldnt do anyway! I was told directly by a cop, that they will never pull over a motorized bicycle here in kansas. Kansas law is- not over 30mph, no helmet required, and have pedals, no public trails, you stated up to 130 cc but ive havent seen that. Georgia- must be a bicycle frame, no cc limit, helmet required, must obey all traffic signs and signals, ie hazard and stop lights, and road rules. You can also argue that you have a right to travel and even public enforcement, aka police cant impede your right!

Unnecessary to register in California, and they are legal as is (49cc), but I opted to register my bike as a MOPED. 26 bucks. Got a license plate too. As a moped I can run bigger engines. My 2 cents. Great work, now let's put the whole country, state by state guide together.
@CuddlyJon
@CuddlyJon Год назад
It is necessary to register. They did away with the 49cc rule. This was an old law. It is now based on horsepower and speed rating (4hp max and only 30mph). A motorized bicycle in CA IS a moped by the law. Anything bigger than 150cc is considered a motorcycle and needs to be registered as such... don't think any cops will pull you over for it, but they can.
