I was all hot and bothered about wanting a Phantom 85. Was even trying to hold out for V4 with the 2 piece top end. After watching some videos and reading forums i have never had peace about Dropping that kind of cash on such a problematic set up. Sure, the may eventually get it sorted out.... but..... minarelli is becoming more popular and even more so the YD85 "hybrids". Earlier this year i bought a PK80 "triple 40". That engine has less than 100 miles on it and is never going to run again after all the issues and the ton of money i put into it... complete junk including a warped cyclinder and big crack in the head and so on the list goes on..... phhht almost stopped this whole idea until this past week or so. I bought a YD85 "hybrid" as they call them. (aka for example the Athena 85 or Avenger 85) yOUTUBE Dyno testing on the Phantoms are a little bit concerning. Advertised higher than dyno results. One video showed it only put out 3hp and extensive tuning and etc was required to get it close to the advertised. That to me sorta feels like they took the absolute best test anyone has done and marketed it... Not realistic for most people not getting those kind of results,.... or just throw $300 at a kit that is now about to relase version 4..... let that sink in.... they still haven't got that engine figured out yet?... no thanks... Last year i built a YD100. Cheapest kit i coulld find at the time ($115) , also being my first "goat" as i call these. Learning lessons, expensive education, and i have just begun. I have the 2-stroke bug now at the age of 52 and am disabled. I have no business riding these things... but can't ride a bus and don't have a car... gotta get groceries somehow, right!? Might as well make sure no one is sleeping on Sunday mornings... that might be me..... I did a "first start" ride today on my brand new CDH YD85. A friend come over to help me with it and went for a ride. The yd100 my friend rides (i built last year), is a good reliable engine but it lacks in rpm and overall power (dynos show them at 1.5hp) ..... I had almost bought a Minarelli setup but the seller got over greedy with shipping and etc. So, Todays' first start was a learning experience also..... WOW! my initial impression is giggles. My biggest complaint has been a lack of in-town stop light to stop light power/curve on the cheapest engines... . YD100 caps at 6k rpm. Torque is ok but seems a bit slow to get up to power and makes it dangersou to get out of peoples way in heavy traffic. The pK80 that ate itself, had the torque and etc, but never ran right and etc.....This YD85 will pull my 200lb weight up steep big hills gaining in speed... This yD85 i have now, i call her "GIGGLES"...Some people call them the Phantom Killer.. Maybe they are, time will only tell. But the first ride, literally, i let the clutch out and began to accelerate like i would have the other engines.... It pulled the front wheel off the ground!!!! wow, so i tried it intentional, and yup... driveability has arrived. Just gotta try not to use to much throttle, lol or should i say giggles... Its not broke in yet and need to deal with other issues with chain and tensioner. yES, buy a good high quality chain for any of them, especially higher hp engines. My friend on the ld100 said the yd85 drove more like a real bike, referring to motorcyle riding. He said while riding his own and i would open up the throttle, i would gain 8-10 ft ever second. I believe him. . . I haven't pushed it severly hard yet, but the max speed on my odometer/speedo now says 29.6mph using a 44t gear. I am using a stinger pipe off a cheap kit with modified flanging to just get it running. Can't wait to get a proper pipe and get it tuned.... all i can say is the yd85 is an absolute must in consideration. Got a bike already built, $175 is a great upgrade and with a ton of potential.... and no, this engine isn't ported... yet... later learning for me. its been a long hard road with this bike build.... i am hopefully giggling at the future potential of what i did buy and perhaps a giggle knowing there are "options" out there... don't get up in hoop-la.... Be blesse, be safe, and keep on riding them screaming goats!
I dont wanna sound like a dumbass but do you need a license for this? I was thinking on getting my son one of these because he loves those things but i dont know anything about them
Nice job! Some stand up gas scooters that have suspensions are a straight swing arm swap! All you'll have to do is run throttle and brake cable.. but you will have a small diameter rear wheel, still works well. Also swap rear spring with mountain bike shock. Great job looks legit!
Do you still have your Xpro 125cc cafe cruiser? If so, how many miles do you have on it now? Any problems with it sofar? What is the GPS top speed on it? What are your likes and dislikes about it? Is the headlight bright enough for night riding? Does the handlebar vibrate a lot? Have you done any valve adjustments? If so, is it easy to do? Thanks.
Bro what can i use for my 3.5-5 hp briggs engine, i have a centrifugal clutch but i dont like it, i however struggle finding a converter that fits and uses #41/420 chain
Kool set up! You can go about 18 to 20 degrees on your carb angle. Mine is at 20 degrees and all I hade to do was lower the floor just a little bit. I hope it screams and has a smooth ride!👍
If I could only dump pictures 📸 I re-imagined that same bike by cutting the frame and flipping the front section and making it only inches from the ground.
Alright! I was looking at my full sus bikes around, and my new gas bike trying to figure out what to do about it. This has thing beats my ass where I often find myself would rather stand up or float on my feet a bit cause I'm often off road. So hitting rocks bigger than road grade is just Muuurder when you're don't see it coming or you're whipping along in medium and higher RPM and they sneak attack you. Got big ol' fat tires on it with downhill rims, spokes and Axel's that built years ago, which help, but it's a limited solution. This'll push me in the right direction . This is awesome.
Just think about it, put the break lever on backwards and put the throttle cable into the break lever. They work the exact same way, why you pull or push the break lever in, it will pull the cable the same way
Another option is to disassemble the OEM radio so all you have is the control panel and the back ports. There are small Philips head screws on the OEM radio that you can loosen and you can remove the front plastic plate, the CD player, and the outer metal case. All your left with is the circuit board and the back ports which is must less bulky than the full radio and it fits in behind the new radio. Plug the two free plugs that he shows in the video into the control panel ports. Then zip tie the panel in the cavity behind the new radio. I did this on a 2012 Prius v and the trip and display buttons on the steering wheel work.
How do u ground the pink wire could explain can’t reset my oil maintenance have code b1504 lost communication with steering switch any input would help thanks
I've got one of these now and have queued a 17T for it already, as per a comment on one of your other videos. It's been a year and a half since this last BD125-2 video, how is it holding up?
I've got one. Gearing is super short, but I like it. Ordered a 17t sprocket, it's gonna be my Class M exam bike soon just like you said you used yours for. Awesome first bike, though I suspect it's gonna take advantage of my mix of automotive and bicycle mechanic knowledge down the line; I've been hearing the carbs are iffy, the oil it comes with isn't great, and that general wear issues like to crop up on bikes like these. I didn't immediately change out the oil it came with, I'm gonna run it for about a hundred mile break-in, dunno if I'll regret it or anything. Carb seems to be doing fine so far as well, despite the community saying they're known to have problems I've never had issues, so far haven't even had to choke it, choking it actually just kills it, even cold, not sure what's up with that since it doesn't act like it's running rich. I want to solve all the common issues it and its brethren have, and turn it into a daily driver for a mix of work and liesure trips. One thing about the gearing, is that as I've been using it I'm finding I'm switching back to second gear at stops, then straight to fourth because first is insanely short, and the gap between second and third is minimal enough that I'm almost topping third as soon as I shift. Second is a tiny bit too long for a comfortable takeoff, but the fact that it's as close as it is to being a good takeoff gear, enough that I prefer just using second and fourth skipping first and third, speaks to just how short the gearing really is out of the box, and I can't wait for the 17t to come in and hopefully make things more sane once I install it. I guess it's good for me having been a new rider, being so short means I had a lot of torque to keep the engine from dying out in the early stages of learning the clutch, but now that I've got the clutch under wraps I prefer the longer gearing over the torquey launches. As of writing, I still haven't put a full 25mi on it, I'm still a very new rider, the brakes probably aren't even properly bedded yet. I'm very excited to see where this bike can take me, both out on the roads, and with my mechanicking abilities down the line as I both service and mod it.
I just picked one of these up to let my kids play with. Where can I get replacement pads for the brakes lol😅 the ones on mine are broken , previous owners kids had a blast with this thing.
this might not have a great deal of views, but just know most of us who did watch are genuinely enjoying and appreciating the content i can confidently say
I've got a bbr I have a bbr tuning stage 4 66/80 cc when I had the 44 tooth sprocket I was able to get 46 mph slight downhill. I had the stock NT carburetor PROPERLY ADJUSTED AND JETTED. I use the banana-shaped expansion chamber. I have no idea what my top end is with the 40 tooth sprocket I have now. 89 octane with 5 oz synthetic oil per gallon. Remember the smaller the engine the more touchy it is on weather change as far as tuning.
torque converter converts torque into speed... but then you reduce that speed back into torque with the jack shaft gear reduction. whatever gets the bike rolling i guess but i think a centrifugal clutch would do the same job
I have bought and used a couple of v3 phantom 85's and find the 1st issue if the lock washers suck and the cdi screws come loose. These need to be changed immediately out of the box
