And affordable. Nowadays a new Mustang is out of reach of the average Joe which defeats its origins of being an affordable sports car that basically anyone could buy.
Despite it being relatively slow nowadays...I love my 99 2-valve. Easy to mod and work on (for the most part). So crazy how high the prices are now for a GT compared to 23 years ago.
It wasn't slow then and it's not slow now. People's expectations are just too damn high. Everything that is quicker now cost 3 to 4 times as much as that GT did when it was new. Is it worth it and the super high insurance that goes with it? Nope!
1999...so ahead of its time. I have a 99' Mustang GT, Convertible, same color red as the car shown here. Even with the quirks; spark plug thread problems, intake manifold problems, cheap interior--they're still bullet proof and made were designed to last a long time. Though not "fast" to todays standards, they're still plenty quick and an underrated platform for tuners on a budget.
I'm so glad you enjoy your 99 New Edge. To be honest, every sports car had a cheap interior at this time. The plastic they used in the MK4 Supra was pretty cheap, too, despite what Toyota fanboys will try to tell you.
@@zedfourme5085catfish cars with their plastic exterior panels were junk from the factory. let’s not forget their flimsy differentials that would grenade at the track. you don’t see many of those 4th gens anymore bc they got crushed for falling apart so easily 😂
See 2vavles weren’t so slow, for their time…Only reason they are considered slow is because their good looks keeps them in the modern mustang conversation….
I have always liked the new edge...but when the 350z came out in the later years of the New edge it was time to move on. Z 3.5L V6: 287hp GT 4.6L V8: 260hp
@@BrownBomber92181 My Grand Marquis had a NPI intake and can confirm, swapping a PI intake (not even the heads, just the intake manifold) really woke it up and brought back some life in the upper RPM range.
@@zedfourme5085 wasn’t even comparing mustangs to GM counterparts. At the time Gm also where very nice powerful cars. I spent much of my time at tracks and well aware of ET times. The 1998 GT was so slow and the 2000 actually had some power to play with. Besides the GT could play with a Camaro I did all the time wasn’t till going into 4th they would go around me. And at the the time as a whole with all types of cars YES the GT did hold its own
My best friend had a 1996 GT convertible 5 speed. The only thing he added was an X pipe and flowmasters. He bought it barely used with 15,000 miles and if I recall it was around $17,000. Very reasonable. He kept it until about 120,000 miles and it gave him very few problems. The 4.6 was an excellent motor. Even with a modest 215 horsepower it was fun to drive with the manual transmission. The torque made it feel a lot faster than the numbers would suggest. The only thing I didn’t like was the body structure was very flimsy being a convertible. Going over railroad tracks you could see the whole dash move quite a bit. But in the spring and summer it was the most fun you could have for a car that was well under $20k
@@zedfourme5085 yeah, the Camaro was faster. Ya seem a bit upset about all the people who like the new edge Mustang. But despite your constant bashing, the new edge Mustang lives on, as it is a reliable drivetrain, easy to modify, and are starting to go up in value quite a bit.
I own a 2004 GT convertible with 5spd, all stock except for a MGW shifter swap. My car is fun to drive, and has a fair amount of power even with 155k miles.
@@angelgjr1999 f bodies were on their way out before the terminator was even an idea...and it didnt take much to get an ls1 fbody to run with a terminator
These are genuinely one of my favorite Mustangs of all time, probably top 3 behind a '69 Mach 1 or GT500, or the SVO. That said, it is kind of hilarious how outclassed these were for so long. The 5.0 and non PI 4.6s made at LEAST 50 less horsepower than the LT1 F bodies, and even after picking up 50 horsepower in the PI version, they still had damn near 90 less horsepower than the LS1. They didn't even stand a chance until the DOHC Cobras came out, and even those were down almost 50hp until they were supercharged.
14.6 is what a convertible automatic runs these cars should be running 14 flat even high 13s stock even Evan Smith from Muscle Mustang in fast forward took a 2004 automatic equipped car and ran 14 seconds flat
Lets be Honest Evan Smith is the GOAT 03 Mach 13.0, 03 Cobra 12.4, 12.89 Ls1 F-Body 12.88 in an LS2 GTO. I spent many nights in my youth at both Englishtown & Atco when the aforementioned cars were fresh and never saw any of then stock/near stock match those times.
