I had this done today. They put on a topical cream, then injected the lidocaine to numb everything. It was then that the needle was put into the joint. I felt nothing through the whole procedure except a small sensation of the joint being full as he injected the dye. Lots of worrying turned out to be nothing. I told him to numb me good before they started, and I think the topical really helped. 8 hours later and I feel fine with no pain.
For those of you wondering, I had this done in January and had labrum surgery on the 31st. I’m okay with needles but for this procedure the worst part was the numbing. When they inserted the part where the dye goes through, it felt like a weird pressure but it wasn’t painful. My shoulder was a little achy for a few days but it’s not as bad as you might think
I had an arthrogram and MRI done today. Quite simple and virtually painless. The doctor explained everything as he was doing it. I felt the initial prick of the needle that was used to numb the area and after that, all I felt was mild (VERY MILD) pressure as the dye was injected. I was shocked when he said he was done because having read all the scary comments on here, I was waiting for some crushing pain. Not there and even now I just have slight tenderness. The MRI lasted between 25-30 minutes and I'll know the results later in the week. Good luck, everyone.
I had a ct arthrogram today and I can 100% say it was the most painful experience of my life so far and I have had a fair few surgeries on my ankle (the thing I was having scanned) and othing has been as bad as that. The actual process of having the needle put it was nothing like you said but the dye brought me to tears I have had steroid injections in my joint before and expected it to be the same but the pain I felt was unreal now I'm using the word pain but that wasn't the right word for it it's was overwhelming pressure and felt like my ankle was being pulled off. It was throughly shocking as I normally have a very high pain tolerance but god it was awful but by the sound of it I just had a really bad experience
I just got out and I want to thank the Staff of Floyd Hospital in Rome, GA for taking such good care of me. I was treated with care and compassion. I was explained every step of the procedure and it was pain free! The only thing that kind of hurt was the numb medicine but all needles hurt right? After that it was 100% painless! Thank you God and the doctor who did a great job!
Had this done today and I was very nervous but it was honestly fine and nothing to worry about. I had just a teeny sharp pain a couple of times but not bad enough to moan about..just made me jump slightly. The dye going in felt weird..like my leg was inflating but again not bad. I would be fine to have this procedure again and certainly wouldn't worry in advance like I did this time.
I've had this procedure done on both shoulders. I find that the pain depends on the doctor and how gentle they are, and how much pain the joint is already in. On my right shoulder, I was in a sling for 3 days after and I was bawling after the injection (I sincerely believe that the doctor forgot to administer the numbing solution). But for my left shoulder, I was out of the sling within 12 hours and I did not shed a single tear.
I have an MRI Arthrogram today and I'm glad this video was made. Before I didn't know what to expect, but know I do! Thanks! :) Still not looking forward to it though. Lol
Had this done three years ago for a torn labrum. Had surgery. Got it repaired. Here i am the day of getting this done yet again... same silly shoulder. Anyway, it hurt. The pain was something else. Had me sweatin.
I had an MRI with contrast recently but they just put the contrast in the vein of my arm. I have a shoulder problem but no one has ever put the contrast in the shoulder. I’ve heard when the contrast actually goes in the shoulder joint it is seen better rather than the injection going into the vein.
Never again!!!!! So painful, had it in my shoulder but it felt like my joint was being tortured from the inside....horrible! They gave me xanax but didnt feel like any pain meds were used. Completely traumaized.
I'm getting one this coming Friday in my wrist. I've been told it will hurt a lot, and I expect no less. At the very least, I won't be going through the MRI machine all the way and it's only my arm. I guess Xanax doesn't hurt either :). I just hope that it doesn't impair me too much because I'm a high schooler and this is my dominant wrist-- I need to be at school the following day. I have had brain surgery and open heart surgery and this arthrogram was THE most painful thing I have EVER gone through next to kidney stones! OMG, I can't believe the pain this procedure inflicted and I supposedly had it numbed first! I was told it was because my shoulder was so inflamed. Whatever the reason, I will NEVER do this again. EVER!
I may or may not need surgery on my shoulder. Both injections didn't really hurt, just a pinch. The tension of the ink filling up your shoulder does cause pressure but it wasn't bad (again my shoulder is not severely damage like others) What happen to me was the dye made me very sick. Either the PA missed or i had a bad reaction to it. Remember the last time you had the flu? well yes this is what it was like. A GOOD 20 minutes of being extremely ill, aka wanted to vomit, couldn't really see straight, and by any means stand up. I had to lay down for close to 40minutes till i was ready for the MRI. The sickness lasted a good hour and half but peaked for a good minutes. I don't think I would do it again if my body reacts that way, it was very overwhelming, scary, and draining. The MRI is the eazy part, just close your eyes, put on music and meditate for a few minutes. . You can see the opening just a few inches down where your feet stick out if that helps anyone. End result, my shoulder was very sore for the rest of the day, had trouble lifting it pass 180º. It's the next morning and it's still sore.
The arthrogram I had done on my knee was the singlemost horribly painful medical experience of my life. I walked in fine, and left on crutches-still couldn't walk 2 weeks later. And the worst part? The diagnosis given after the test turned out to be completely WRONG, once the knee was actually visualized in surgery...in other words, a total waste of time, money, pain and suffering. OVER MY DEAD BODY IS ANYBODY GONNA EVER "GRAM" ME AGAIN!!!
I have to get one for my shoulder and I'm terrified of needles, I'm genuinely horrified. Currently 2:31 am can't sleep. I do t even have it scheduled yet...😭
I had mine done a couple of hours ago in y shoulder. I am 11 and it hurt sooo bad. I cried sooo much. The MRI was not that bad tho. It was the shot that was bad. They gave me five in total. 4 for numbing, and 1 for the shot
I read all these comments on here prior to going in for this procedure today. I felt quite comfortable going in as the majority of you said you felt no pain. Omg I don’t know if my doctor was not very good or what but that was honestly the worst pain I have EVER felt and it’s still agony 4 hours later. I suppose every patient is different but be prepared for it to really hurt.
pain is fine, im getting this because i will not go into the mri tube, even at gun point. so i will take any pain as long as im not going into a metal coffin like tube.
Honestly if it’s your hip you’re having done, that side of it is a doddle I only went in up to my shoulders, my head and neck didn’t go into the mri. It was the pain from putting the dye in, that was worse than child birth and crippled me for a day or two afterwards 😢
I had a arthrogram it was awful I went n for 12:30 pm n didn't leave till after 6pm I'm still in pain. The details of it was not made clear, I would never do it again awake if its my option. Um in a sling ....
I think everyone’s experiences will be different - I had mines done today of my hip and I will not be going back for my left hip, that’s for sure. Can’t say it was the worst pain I’ve felt but painful 😣 and that pressure was like a bursting feeling.
Hello I'm getting an arthrogram on my left hip I'm very nervous. I have a pretty high pain tolerance but the idea of having a huge needle put In my hip that's already In pain makes me feel nervous any advice..
I went today for my shoulder and it he injection part I’m not gonna lie wasn’t the most comfortable there was a lotta weird pressure and a lot of weird pinches, just breath through it, it only lasts about 30 seconds
This procedure was so damn painful 😢... just had this procedure done today and it feels like someone shot me in my left shoulder.🤦🏽♀️Not to mention when the anesthetic wears off... so painful 😢
Honestly if I can do it then anyone can, take a friend or loved one with you. They let you listen to music, so close your eyes and constraint on the lyrics or think of things that make you happy. You'll be fine.
