Up against a very solid USTA rated 4.5 in the semi finals. Kosta and Jon are playing in the other semi finals match so I'll be getting the winner of that match. Final score here was 6-0 6-1.

Well played. My advice is get into net much more. I know you like the long points. But against better players you need to put them under more pressure.

Hi Andrew, did you manage to film the finals for this tournament? Your lates video doesn’t state it was the finals. How did you go in that match? Hope you’ll be able to upload soon. Cheers, mate.

Andrew I’m curious. What is the one type of player that you dread playing against?
@iRacer3
@iRacer3 4 года назад
Austin Osenenko I like long points so anybody that can end the point fast I dread. A huge serve or very aggressively ending points quickly (win or lose) is not fun for me.

Andrew - In your opinion, is it better to that your 2nd serve goes in vs hitting it harderder so they can't attack? I go back and forth on this in a match. I can hit a reliable 2nd serve that usually goes in but it's soft
@shimassi9961
@shimassi9961 4 года назад
In my opinion it depends on how often your first serve goes in and how much pressure they put your soft second serve under. If you're making a lot of 1sts then hitting the 2nd harder isnt going to as much of an issue. Conversely, if they're not attacking the soft serve and you back yourself in the point then I'd personally just hit that one.
@iRacer3
@iRacer3 4 года назад
2nd serve needs to go in 100% of the time so whatever speed you need to hit it at to make it go in 100% of the time. Double faulting is unacceptable especially at lower levels where just starting a point has a high likelihood of you winning it because the opponent probably can't hit a winner off a slow serve. 1st Serve you also want to go in about 70% of the time. So figure out what kind of power/angle you can get to go in 70% of the time for your first serve (make 7 out of 10 in practice). Getting a first serve in even if you have to take a bit of power off is important physiologically in a match. If your dumping every first serve into the net it can give your opponent a mental edge just in itself. Then make sure you have a serve that you can get in 10 out of 10 times in practice. During a match you should be aiming for 2 or less double faults per match.
@dropshot118
@dropshot118 4 года назад
@@iRacer3 thanks Andrew, that's really helpful! I play 4.0 /4.5 and I find most guys can;'t consistently attack my 2nd serve ( Its a slice). I played 2 sets today and only double faulted twice. I go for big for a big 1st but sometimes have to take speed off like you said to get my confidence up lol . My playing style is kind of a counter puncher but aggression when needed.
@tungt88
@tungt88 4 года назад
@@dropshot118 A counter-puncher with a big serve is rare enough in the pros; it's even rarer at the "hit and giggle" levels of play. In other words, it's nightmarish to deal with.

How intentional was your drop shot at 1:56? Seems you just barely got to it. Congrats if you were also able to give it that deft touch. Also that looked closer than 0 and 1. He seemed to hang in for many points. Maybe should be charging the net more.
@iRacer3
@iRacer3 4 года назад
Ehh probably cut it closer than I wanted but if you aim safe even if your a little off the shot will be OK. I think the hardest part of that shot was just getting to the ball. Pretty much anything I could get into the court was going to be enough because of how far he was out from the previous shot.

I like your footwork and game, and you have nice spin and patient point building, but I wonder why you never drive the ball when theres an opportunity? I think it would make you a better player. There are a few ocassions where you hit a good angle spin and drive the opponent off court and then get a weak ball and a very open court where you could drive the ball parallel for a winner and you choose to hit a 9feet spin slow ball and give them time to recover. You don't even need to hit a super aggressive low margin 100% power winner, but just flattening the ball more say 3-5feet with a bit less spin and drive would not make it that risky bout would make the ball much faster and more likely to get a winner or a very tough return of ball which you could follow into the net for an easy volley or so.
@iRacer3
@iRacer3 4 года назад
You're right and if you notice there are many times I can easily come into net and do not. I really feel comfortable extending points and I like enduring long physical points and making my opponent suffer with me. Quick points are not what I enjoy so I have never really trained the kill ball that you are speaking of. In theory, it would certainly help me win points faster, but I would hit more unforced errors and the match would be less physical.

Andrew... First...why are you delaying so much to post a tennis game Second....is that true you play that damn game by hours every night?...
@iRacer3
@iRacer3 4 года назад
Honestly I have recorded a bunch lately that I feel is not high enough quality to post. You have to realize once you get a decent following you don't really want to post junk, so I have dozens of sessions I have recorded that never make the final cut. And yes we have a stream that we enjoy doing most nights of the week late night when the courts and gyms are closed so it doesn't affect training.

The guy in the blue who posts these videos of himself is what I call a Grinder Player, his shots are high and loopy. There's no weapons. Giving too much time for his opponents. But this is his style of play. High and Loopy. But that won't work against good players who know how to deal with high loopy balls.
@isidroarias3864

I agree. I said this in another video.
@germanslice
@germanslice 4 года назад
The Guy in White, drives the ball from his arm and makes errors. The Guy in Blue, is more consistent getting the ball back BUT he returns far too many sitters up in the middle of the court. His type of game is really doubles than singles.... BUT Against the advanced players you cannot afford to hit them back any short weak balls (sitters) or you will just get ripped all off the court.

Don't sleep on this guy he whips the hell out of 99% of the guys at our club (20's, 30's, 40's) and definitely dominates his age group. You give a guy like him 1 inch and your losing the match 100% of the time.
