@BigMacDavis Burned by the fires of Armageddon, his soul blistered by the fires of hell and tainted beyond ascension. He chose the path of perpetual torment. In his ravenous hatred he found no peace; and with boiling blood he scoured the umbral plains, seeking vengeance against the dark lords who had wronged him. He wore the crown of the Night Sentinels, and those that tasted the bite of his sword named him, the Doom Slayer.
Hugo said in a recent interview the design philosophy is "more slower projectiles that hit harder." Like classic doom. It seems we're going to be weaving between a lot of different patterns of projectiles. Hugo mentioned it like a "3d shmup ". With linear levels, more open sandbox levels that open up more when we come back to them. They're putting a larger focus on exploration and I couldn't be happier.
I believe it's based on one of the sentinel world's and it's after he was put through the divinity machine. Me and misses watched this yesterday and I'm looking forward to it
So on a side note my wife funny enough noticed first that those flying things do kinda look like the octabrains from valiant and other doom wads but also thinking about it more I wonder if this is based after his first battle with the titan or is it the run up to him going into the divinity machine I originally thought when writing my comment that it was after Samuel had put him in the divinity machine but looking at it more and thinking about it this could be after he came to the sentinel world's and leading up to him going into the divinity machine and I'm thinking that because of the description on the steam page for this
@@Ben_of_Langley I mean, he's in a ship of some sort in the trailer, then launches himself down onto the planet like a shooting star. Could be a prototype for the fortress of doom.
@@BigMacDavis yeah I did notice that you know what as well it kinda reminds me of those ships we saw in the background when you go outside in urdak for the first time you know the cross shape one's
Great analysis video, lots of fun and something kind of different for this channel. To me, this trailer looks pretty amazing. But we shall see... in 2025 (...or whenever, or never). Thanks for posting, very entertaining and informative. 8:09 Always happy to get a reference to the Unmaker.
You know what I wanna see more of? I do wish they make an HD version of Heretic, Hexen & Beyond! I would so kill for buying that game in HD and therefore I would gladly played it over and over again. Doom: The Dark Ages looks really cool on paper. I mean it does look more of a past-like with Castle's in somewhere between I think 1600-1800? I could be wrong in my own brain here. Still with that said, I do hope we get to look at some more footage of this game in the near future. Can't wait to see how much more other stuff that they put in store for us to see.
The final shot is most definitely a reference to the kiss of death from Godzilla (2014). Additionally, not only is Doomguy gonna get medieval, he’s also gonna get Pacific Rim on their asses. 😉
I love the interview with Martin about it being more about dodging slow projectiles with high damage. And that OG DooM fans will feel right at home but 2016/Eternal fans might need to learn a new gameplay style. This means variation and refresh for the newer fans and for me? I'm coming home, baby! This is the DooM we old guys wants I think. At least it looks like it. They did it again with 1 trailer and some chitter chatter. This will be my 3rd preorder of 13 years. Skyrim, Eternal and now this.
The fact that theres no colorful confetti when killing enemies and it's just a big splash of blood and gore gets me so excited. Doom Eternal is my favorite Doom game but I really wish they gave us an option to turn of the colorful loot. Once u got good at the game, u didn't even need it.
15:50 Fun attention to details here. If you pause, you'll notice that they're using the exact same explosive barrel design from Doom Eternal! Also the thing with the Hell Knight right after looks like a parry system, reminds me of the same mechanic in Metroid Dread
7:10 I think the mancubus was already damaged. This could mean that demon stagger (when about to glory kill) is gone, so that way they don't revover HP if you don't glory kill them. Also the way the shield glows when blocking attacks could mean that it absorbs energy to charge it until you can execute a special attack like throwing the shield or some powerful glory kill. Otherwise, throwing the shield all the time without restriction would be broken as hell.
A number of great promising titles planned for 2025 or somewhere there; first Grand Theft Auto VI, and now Doom: The Dark Ages, and hopefully The Elder Scrolls VI gets developed as well. The potential breakout of number 6 entries in many favorite franchises is teasing me so much. I honestly hope so much that the devs do a flawless job and deliver even beyond what they showcase in the trailer. I still can't wait to see the Doom 3 expansions, Doom 2016, and Doom Eternal completed on this channel. Then we will definitely be ready in case this new game does come out and is a masterpiece.
I read on the DOOM website's social post for this game that its taking game design cues from the classic games, so I expect we're getting grounded combat against hordes of enemies.
Definitely love the medieval vides. The old-style weapons, mixed with modern and futuristic. Also, the Doomguy armor is kinda geared towards knights armor, with the studded shoulder pads and leather straps keeping thing on.
Love you doing this!!! 2:29 - It seems like Taras Nabad to me 3:36 - it is funny! and amazing at the same Time, like a bit "Berzerk-ish" style (the manga) 3:50 - Isn't the same Suit as the Marauder have? the fist "preator suit" before he awakened by Hayden 6:45 - well... ID say that Doom 3 is canon, but is another timeline... maybe is a surpraise in this game :O 10:58 - is like something riding a Pinky or similar demon lol My big dissapointmentwith this trailer is that they forgot to do a big soundtrack-cachy to be alongside the trailer. In the first trailer of Eternal, the song "The only thing they fear is you" was instantly a banger, pleasant to hear, memorable, and it become a meme... literally surpased the BFG Division. It maybe be small, but is a detail that grew up on people who even never touched Doom before...
Here’s my 2-cents on this. So, we know that Hell is either a plane between time and space, as Slayer is our same beloved Marine from the start, or the people who found Doom Guy in Eternal and made him one of their people are dimension hoppers. Remember, THEY found HIM. I believe the truth is somewhere in the middle. We know this is gonna be a prequel game in some respects so I would say that the plot involves Doom Guy being brought along/ sent alone on missions to prove his might and dedication to killing them all. The ‘ball and chain’ weapon you’ve been referring to is one of two things depending on length. A flail, which would be short range, or a Castlevania-styled whip (The whip in the Castlevania games is shown on many occasions to be completely made of chains with the morning star bulb on the end). What I’m not sure on yet is if this is before or after the Seraphim’s enhancements however I’m placing my bet on before. All in all this looks like it’s going to be a 1,000,000 against 1 bloodbath where you’re tasked with liberating worlds as invasions of demons attempt to take them over.
That's a real cool theory. Discovered by them in Eternal, then proving himself to the gods and kinds by traveling through interdimensional time and space, saving civilizations, conquering demonic lands, etc. All speculation at this point though.
Rip and tear, fellow slayer!!! A new DOOM is upon us, very looking forward for this one. Nothing like ripping through demons throughout the dark ages.......but this time, WITH MECHS!!!
Looks really interesting. Hope it's not just a slaughterfest, but the enemies look formidable. DOOM guy looked like the Penguin from one of the Batman movies in that shot of him from the back, hahaha Hope you feel better!
Can't wait for your walkthrough videos of this game! ^^ You've helped me get through DOOM 2 and Black Mesa so I can't wait for you to help me get through this game and not make me feel like an idiot well doing so as well! ^w^ Also hopefully you fully recover from this covid crap soon.
said this on another video but I really hope we get to see what happened to Taras Nabad in this game, especially with that titan we saw getting beat with the mech. Maybe it's the same one from the Fortress of doom that got damaged in the battle with the titan? Also that battle with the titan looks like it takes place at a UAC facility somewhat with the style of the building imo. Also hope you feel better soon!
One thing this trailer doesn't show that I'm curious about is how ammo works, I'm hoping they've rethought it and dropped Eternal's "chainsaw enemies to get ammo drops" system because as much as that resource loop worked for that game, I never got along with it as well as the traditional Doom ammo pickups. There's an interview out there where Marty Stratton talks about trying to go back to fundamentals for the combat and keeping everything more grounded (which might also explain the meathook's absence, you're meant to dodge and weave on the ground instead of zipping around wildly through the air), and I hope that idea extends to ammo and resource management.
I like the more serious tone of this game. At least from the graphics. Doom eternal was more arcade like with the bright colors and flashing items and enemies. This looks like it's going back to the more serious tone of doom 2016 which I really enjoy. Nothing wrong with doom eternal though. Love that game to death.
Aesthetically, I like the dark and gritty tone of Doom 2016. When it comes to M rated games, I prefer it darker and grittier. As you said, nothing wrong with Eternal though, it just felt a little too cartoony at times. The tone of Dark Ages seems to be a return to those roots.
@BenAkenobi I'm not a fan of dlc either but the core gameplay was fine is what my point was. The combat was fun and the cartoon flashy graphics although not my preference still looked nice.
@@myself8354 it was fun, no mistake there, yet for me i got burned out with all that acrobatics and always low ammo and recharge this chansaw that and when expansions came out i said nah that's it done and seen it all
you can see doomguy is wearing a coat of mail under his suit... which adds for that medieval look but i think that the fur is too much... setting being on dark ages reminds me of quake, which bring me some questions... like maybe a crossover, reimagining, or just a place where doomguy hasn't gone yet (except mods for original doom)... looks nice i like it, except for the fur... by the way, get well soon BMD!
interesting analysis big mac, i'm drawing my conclussions but i bet my two cents this'll take place in an alternate universe's earth since it looks to be in a middle ages esque setting and yeah, i hope to see more magic based stuff in it. what i know for now is it'll be the first doom game not based on the first two classic games in any way, well, that's just me, hehe well, that's all, also, hope you and sam get well soon! take care my man!
Good observation. Doom 3 and 2016 were based on Doom 1 (with the Mars setting) and Eternal was based on Doom 2 (with the earth setting), but this one feels separate from that. I've said it before, but I'm hoping for a more Heretic / Hexen feel.
After some thinking I realized the modern doom games are taking the same path the original classics did. The 1st doom game had a more serious tone like doom 2016. Then doom 2 was more arcade like amd goofy like doom eternal. And then doom 64 was a very dark and horror focused finale to the classics just like dark ages appears to be.
Why did I had the feeling that I would see Doomguy with a cape on him in the next game? Not saying it's a bad thing tho... Also that shield really got my attention. The way how it worked kinda reminded me of a Painkiller weapon. How you launch it and comes back. Except it's better. Not sure if this would happen but I would like to see it in Slayer's Testament. Doom fans are going to be satisfied on this one. Also get well soon BMD 5:30 guess Doomguy dives into hell again. Pun (un)intended
I'm happy for Doom players that they're getting more Doom, it's a great series and I'm playing it through now for the first time. I really want some new Quake though! haha
Quake fans really should've expected this though. They just assumed the next game would be Quake without any evidence suggesting it. It was always going to be Doom. Hopefully Quake fans get what they want after Dark Ages. I'm just tired of seeing them constantly spamming that they want Quake. Lol
Actually I am more interested in you playing SELACO Imagine Giving the Classic Doom Engine the Black Mesa treatment & you'll love how The enemies co-ordinate (& it's got secrets) Even though it's early access, chapter-1 is fully available to play
It's all fine and dandy, but I just hope the mech / dragon sequences are not gonna end up being another Quake 4 moments. Other than that, the game looks pretty good.
My problem is I'm pretty glad they're making this i just SADLY won't be able to get it because I do have everything else on switch and this isn't to be on it unfortunately 😭😭😭😭😭😭😭😭
If they put a trailer like this the game is not going to be canned. Delayed maybe, but it will come out. I'm geussing this is the time after Doom 1, 2, finale, and 64 but before 2016. This is all in that Kingdom he fell into, so no Mars unless a super old version some how. A lot of magic tech weapons. Reminds me of Quake, and strangly PainKiller. Get well soon!
im not being a smart aleck, but im pretty sure that thing that you called a tyrant was a titan from doom eternal, and the baron kinda looks more of like the doom hunter.
