You're right, they should never be around children again. You can give 2nd chances and forgive and yet still keep up the safety and boundaries of those who can not protect themselves. Part of their redemption and proving themselves worthy of forgiveness is to have ironclad respect for boundaries of others. I can forgive a snake, bit that doesn't mean I'm gonna let it bite me again.

I was married to one, he was not a full blown molester yet or hadn't been caught in anything, but I saw red flags. His family were churchgoers, but the whole family dynamic was narcissistic with a hyper religious mother manipulating the whole clan. I believe at some point he had been molested himself. His brother had passed so we were there for the funeral and after marital relations I went to take a shower and when I got out he was laying on a bed out in the living room with his 16 year old niece. No shower no shirt in pj pants spooning. I flipped and the entire family saw nothing wrong with it. I left 6 months later because I couldn't get him to see that that was inappropriate in my eyes. Well 2 years after me leaving he died of a heart attack 3 weeks before turning 39. He had a friend he visited frequently with little girls and I had warned the friend when I left that he had boundary issues. The friend cussed me out for insinuating his friend was a molester. I called him to let him know hiw friend died and found out he had a warrant out fornhis arrest for molesting his 7 year old daughter. Forgiveness is one thing if there is acknowledgment of wrong doing and an effort to get therapy or some kind of help. My ex never admitted there was a problem. Well, no he's one problem less, but that friend has the guilt of not protecting his child after being warned and that 7 year old will have to deal with that the rest of her life. Don't invite a snake into your home and then cry when you get bit. There is religious Christians and then there is God, and I'm glad justice was served. As narcissists that whole family demonized me for speaking up. In my eyes their church going means nothing to me...they had their chance to see truth and do something about it and they turned a blind eye. They will all have to give account eventually. As for me...I never knew them. And I'll never know people who sell out their kids in order to maintain materialistic gain like a home and cars and cushy lifestyle because the pedophile is the provider and breadwinner etc. I had to start over with nothing, but I have my dignity and peace that I spoke up and did what I could as soon as I saw signs.

If God truly changes the heart of a child molester then he can no longer like children and end up hating that sin. When God saves someone they turn from sin and begin hating it. There is a change of heart. Sin is sin and if you claim to be Christian and you don’t forgive and give a chance to someone who says they’ve truly changed and hate that sin and they are elect, then Christ doesn’t indwell you and you have hatred in your heart. And that’s bad because in Gods eyes if you’re in your sins, you’re just as bad as a murderer or peephole.

Bad advice here. The caller needs to do two things: call the parole officer and turn the guy in, and sue his daughter for custody of his grandchild. That child is in danger from BOTH parents. The grandparents need to raise that child. The daughter can choose to be part of the child’s life but cannot be allowed to be the child’s guardian until she can demonstrate that she will never put the child in danger.

That is a very risky move to do, i would fear the daughter would resent the father and the mother would perhaps get stuck between this, since they have no unified front (since the wife wants to be the "good holy person" and not put boundaries to protect her grandchild from a Child Rapist)

Because the mother is showing blatant disregard for the safety of the child by choosing to aid and abet a criminal rather than do what is necessary to protect the child. Because the mother has shown that she cannot be trusted to do what is in the best interest of the child. I sincerely hope YOU don’t have children, since you similarly have no concept of why this behavior is unconscionable.

One of my closest friends has been with a guy, got pregnant with him last year and right around that time we all found out he's an offender. The story is pretty similar. He was 20 with a minor. Now he's 44 and started dating her when she was barely 21. We all thought it was weird when they got together why a guy who was so much older would want a very young girl. When we found out he was an offender it all clicked. She doesn't tell me much, but recently she admitted that she keeps finding dating apps, and nudes on his phone. He's just a perv and doesn't stop. I have begged her to leave before her daughter gets to the age he likes(preteen-teenager). She's still there, over text tells me everything is good and she loves him and not sure what we can do at this point.. he has also threatened kidnapping the baby just like this guy. I think they threaten that because they know that they would never get custody in court so they know that they can't weaponize the child any other way.

Some women I feel like have been damaged by the church surrounding forgiveness… I actually know a person who was forced to live with their rapist for a time. It was her older sister’s husband who raped her and confessed to it and everything and asked for forgiveness and my friends family chose “radical forgiveness” and let him stay there in their home with the daughter he raped… Not saying this can’t happen anywhere but they were Pentecostal fundamentalists… very religious people. When it happened, I lost so much respect for all of them.

That’s an incredibly simplistic way of looking at it. It’s possible it’s true, but more likely it’s that the daughter is in denial. They say “love is blind” for a reason. It’s easy to armchair quarterback these situations, but no good comes from it. My mother took my sister and her husband to court after getting emergency custody of my nephew, ended up losing the final hearing, and I haven’t seen that kid in 20 years as a result. These things are FAR more complicated than you think, and the consequences if you don’t have all the evidence you need in place before you make a decision like that are far worse. Ppl have to stop thinking this is so easy to deal with, it isn’t.

It sounds like Mom and Dad both didnt want to upset their daughter in the beginning despite the son in laws lack of character. Sometimes we have to do the right thing, even if it means our child will hate us. The mom is hiding behind forgiveness.

My husband and I are dealing with this in our family currently. A family member is dating a sexually violent predator, and we are being ostracized and judged for not accepting him into our lives. I find it morally reprehensible to victimize children, and as a victim of SA myself, I cannot accept someone who has done this. They believe its the Christian thing to do to accept him and make excuses for how he's good for this person, and we are somehow the bad people for refusing to be around him. I can forgive his transgressions without accepting him in my life and to me, child abuse is unforgivable.

And I think they can always be around their own children unless they’ve offended them. They just have to be supervised which is BS. These creeps get out in 5 years with good behavior.

@@MsAlyMonique Sex offenders who've offended against children are not allowed around children. The only reason hes been getting away with it is because no one has reported him. The court can even bar them from being around their OWN children. There are levels to the registry. Level 1, 2, and 3. I think level 3 is the lowest and that would include public urination or indecent exposure with no child victims. Level 2 and 1 are more serious crimes and those levels do carry the "no kids, no drinking, no drugs, no social media, etc". Thie guy in the video was in jail for 2 years, that doesn't happen for public urination.

I agree about sociopath or psychopath. They are master manipulators, have no remorse, take no accountability for bad, destructive behaviors, no moral compass. Whatever meets their need, regardless of the damage it does to others, is their goal and they justify their horrible deeds by placing blame onto society being the problem, or everyone else around them. They are so twisted in their minds that they feel completely justified in what ever nasty, despicable thing they have done. They are also experts at manipulating the legal system.

I just can’t leave it up to chance because that one chance can effect a child for the rest of their life and I can’t bear being an accessory to that by giving second chances 😢 Especially knowing his history I couldn’t do it. He can “change”; and appear kind and trustworthy just to be closer and prey on more children and I couldn’t take that risk.

I work in a prison, we have hundreds of these guys here. No matter how much therapy these guys have, adults who touch children are not safe adults. This woman is playing with fire. This is NOT about religion. Adult men who touch children are irredeemable. He has a sexual orientation toward children, likely for the power. This man cannot be around children at all. It’s part of the terms of his release and he is a predator. Horrifying thought, he may have already assaulted the baby or traded him for access to a child in his preferred demographic. SO’s do horrific things to their victims to get their needs met. This caller has no obligation to do anything for this man. He needs to contact the parole officer now. Damn the relationship with the SO and double-damn the relationship with his daughter. The fact that he called for advice rather than call parole, is astounding. Unless this man wanted to hear, “Yeah, pray for him and take this terrible advice.”

Because there are so many single mothers these days due to a lack of accountability from men, on the surface it appears they are worse. But as soon as a man becomes involved in a child's life, the statistical likelihood of something traumatic happening skyrockets. This is why context is just as important as the statistic itself.

This was a poor decision, when you make a decision it is by definition a choice so he made a bad decision, but from what it sounds like now is that he is doing well, learned his lesson, and is an active member of society. This is the sad part, if a drug dealer was convicted of selling drugs to a minor multiple times. People talk like he made a mistake and should not be judged for it if he paid his debt to society. However, if someone is an RSO they continue to be judged by the worst day of their life, pay their debt to society, become productive members but no matter what they are always judged continuously for that worst day even if they never re-commit their crime. Once your debt is paid ALL criminals should be treated as rehabilitated when released, period no continual punishment.

If he pissed in public, that’s forgivable but if he raped a woman or abused a child, he shouldn’t be unleashed back into society at all. This is weird advice my guy… he just told you that this dude is a registered sex offender and his father and brothers are also convicted sexual predators who live with him.. that means their granddaughter is in the same home as multiple male sex offenders.. why would you tell this man to try and create some sort of relationship with the guy when he told you right off the bat how much he can’t stand the guy. Everything about this call was pointing in the direction of ending this relationship by any means necessary. This isn’t the time for this guy to play the tough dad role and try to mentor this grown adult sex offender into behaving well enough for him to accept him.. you should reach back out to him and give him better advice!

My brother in law molested his daughter and was found guilty. Did some time in jail - weekends for 18 months. My sister married him as soon as his trial was over. Neither will discuss what happened. Its been 20 years and I just can't be around him. Of course he didn't do it according to other family members. I don't know why - but he is not on sex offenders list. All I know is my grandchildren will never know him. End of story.

He forced the daughter to marry him so she cannot testify against him. She and the child are in serious danger. His wife is in denial and living in a fantasy world. Only the 14-year-old girl and her parents can "forgive him" if he ever chooses to admit his guilt. This is dangerous. Hire a private detective to document his behavior so you know what is really going on. Turn it over to the authorities if he violates his restrictions. If and when the daughter is ever ready or needs documentation for a divorce and child custody, show it to her.

The absolute priority here is the grandson. The priority is to get him into a safe environment. This is a family with a pattern of abuse, there is no reason to think anything has changed to end the cycle. If that child is abused it is too late to fix it, being abused by a family member is a scar you carry always and forever. Even the daughter doesn’t matter right now in comparison to that poor child, she has a choice and that grandson has zero control.

Yeah, my thoughts exactly. He made out with a 14 year old but they didn’t have sex? And he went to jail for two years for that? I think I would go to the county courthouse where he was convicted and ask to see the files. It should be public record. They won’t have the name of the victim in there but you can see exactly what he was charged with and convicted of. You could also try talking to the parole officer but I’m not sure what all they can share with you. But I would definitely let them know he violated right away.

Yes, pleading guilty is easier sometimes because if you plead innocence, but the deck is stacked against you (the evidence doesn’t show it) then you get MORE time than if you would’ve plead guilty.

That's not right. There are plenty of innocent people who take the deal and go to jail for 3 to 5 years instead of playing the odds in trial and risk going for 25 years if they lose, because it depends on a jury with emotional people and a prosecutor who will do anything in his power to put you down. If he was guilty without a doubt, he wouldn't have been offered a deal or such a short time in jail. But he might also be the worst person on the planet. All i'm saying is it's not black or white.

Sexual offenders are where I draw a very hard line. Child molesters can not and should not be trusted under any circumstances. Trust is what predators want you to give them so they can gain access to the children in your home. Predators also like to prey on single mothers because they know those women are vulnerable and looking for a man to help them with their kids. Do not ever let a sexual offender into your home or family.

John, what kind of advice is this?? He’s a convicted sex offender. He continually violated his parole. He lied. He threatened the caller’s daughter. He now has access to a young child. Report him and lock him up. How sure are you that he’s not abusing the baby? You chose to give the caller the advice of waiting it out? It should be criminal for you to sit in your chair, with the authority you have, your audience looks up to you, to give this advice. How can you sleep knowing you told this caller to invite this pedophile to breakfast instead of calling his parole officer and locking him up? I’m flabbergasted.

There is no such thing as penance for this man. Be real about this, he likely took a plea, so what he did is probably worse than the actual conviction. He is violating parole. He is manipulating, lying and exerting power at every turn. This father should be fighting for his grandchild. He should be calling the parole officer, social services, and an attorney. Sex abuse is a generational cycle in his family. Child sex abuse is a soul killer. I absolutely would NEVER leave my grandchild in that situation. So disgusted at John’s advice.

This whole conversation is about letting it slide with him and nobody’s going to report him for everything that he violated during his parole and continues to violate. I would be way less forgiving. I would fight my kid for the grandchild. No child should be around a father who let's his father around who molested a family member. If that means my daughter hates me I am okay with that. She is not my priority. That innocent baby is.

Bad advice to tell the father to offer weekly meetings to the husband and essentially threaten him into being accountable and a better man. This will trigger the guy to move daughter and grandson away, and possibly be more controlling and abusive.

Just because you may be forgiven, doesn't mean your actions should be forgotten. People forget that just because you have done your time doesn't mean you should be trusted. Getting a person's trust is a privilege not a right and the person convicted of a crime so heinous should be expected to recieve this reaction.

Especially as a Christian, no way would I welcome a sex offender into my life. The Lord commands us all to protect the innocents/children and that means keeping dangerous people at a distance. You can do that without being unkind or wishing ill on anybody. It's all about calculating the risk, and there IS risk, so 🤷 that's a no.

Here’s the only conversation I’d have with the husband: I’d be very clear that if he doesn’t relinquish custody of the child and annul the marriage, if he’s ever around the child or ex wife again, or if I hear that he harmed another child, I would make sure that detectives never find his body. No other conversation needs to be had

There's no way in hell i would allow him anywhere near my family. I would contact his parole officer. I would do whatever i had to do to get him out of my daughter's life. As a victim of abuse, this makes me sick...
