Episode #67
Last December, I found myself downright obsessed with fly fishing this relatively short stretch of wild trout water in Southern Connecticut. During three outings in just a few weeks, I worked these waters in search of brown trout, each time enjoying only a taste enough of success to keep me thirsting for more. On this, my fourth and final outing, I'm hoping to finally key into these wily wilds.

Going back to December with this vid! I spent an absurd amount of time targeting the browns on this little stretch of water, but it was worth my while, I think. My next episode finally delves into fresh 2022 footage and I'm hoping to get it out before February is over. Thanks for watching, folks!

Love this stream! I find more wild fish above the wtma anyway. You should try behind police station. But I will tell you that I caught a 17inch wild brown about another half mile up from your last spot.

This is my home river too so I know it very well

Damn, a 17 is a hell of a stream-stream, wild brown, my friend! Though I don’t doubt this stream can grow em like that. I look forward to fishing even further upstream one of these days.

@@ConnecticutAngler I would highly recommend. There are more brookies as you go up too. It’s especially good in high water after a rain storm or snow melt

Love the video! I totally get where you’re coming from. Sometimes on a river or stream you want to prove yourself a little better each time. For me it is Macedonia’s class 1 and 3 sections. Each time I go there is always something bringing me back whether it’s a fish I missed, spooked or just a section I could’ve done better in. Keep up the great content!

Exactly. Some streams just sort of suck me in, and I find myself going back again and again in succession. I like to showcase lots of different streams on the channel, so I try to avoid getting sidetracked with one stream too exclusively, but sometimes the draw is just too great to overcome.😂

@@ConnecticutAngler it’s so funny that we’re talking about this because I just went back to Macedonia again to see if I could get some wintertime trout today! Proved myself right I got 3 native browns on a large black stonefly

First off, would these trout be native browns? They look like they have those characteristics! Anyway, I always love your videos, and yet again you are giving us yet another cool one to watch and to drool over haha! .And, in December yet !! Really!! Definitely need to congratulate you on all you do dude! My fix is there but might need some more! haha! Tightlines, and will be always waiting for your next one! Take care!

Brown trout are not native to North America. The only Native trout in Connecticut is Brooke Trout.
@wildbrookies

Oh. I meant are these stream born or natural browns. Sorry. Yeah. I’m pretty sure all brown trout originated in Germany. And Rainbow and cuttthroat are native to a lot of western states. But we do have our precious native brookies. Are there any more videos coming up?

Have you ever made a hunt for a sea run brown trout? Or even the extremely rare Salter Brookie?

Have you ever fished the mianus or rippowam rivers in Stamford?
@ConnecticutAngler
@ConnecticutAngler 2 года назад
I’ve never been to the Rippowam before. I have fished the Mianus, and even filmed an episode there, but it ended up getting cut. Sometimes I have vids just get backlogged for so long that they just wouldn’t be timely enough anymore and they get scrapped. I’ll definitely be back one day though; hell, maybe this year.

Have you ever tried tenkara ???
@ConnecticutAngler
@ConnecticutAngler 2 года назад
I haven’t. I think there are other specialized types of fly fishing that will end up taking priority for me before I invest in and pursue tenkara, especially a Spey outfit. But one of these days I may very well give tenkara a go. The simplicity of the approach sounds refreshing, for sure. Certainly nice for small streams.

Hello! What gear are you using? Especially rod and reel and line. I am just starting out and want to go fly fishing for trouts. Thanks!

In this vid I’m using a TFO Signature II 3wt (7.5ft) paired with a Lamson Liquid. Line is a 45ft double-taper, though that was experimental on my part. I wouldn’t go with such short line again… I prefer 90ft and weight-forward (WF). Frankly, I haven’t noticed much about the double-taper that would tempt me to opt for it again… it’s not bad at close range, but when I come to larger pools like the one at the end of the video, short DT lines start to become frustrating. You’d be surprised how short 45’ feels… and without a WF head, it’s tough to shoot line. Longer WFs are just more versatile, in my opinion. DTs are nicer with roll casts, but I don’t roll cast much in small water, really.
