My Dying Bride Albums Ranked 

The Light at the end of the World is my favorite by them, I think its the most desolate in terms of atmosphere, its utterly crushing and has nonstop amazing riffs.

One of the greatest bands ever, they have a very solid discography. "Turn Loose the Swans" is probably in my top 5 of Extreme Doom Metal albums.

I guessed that 34% would be near the bottom, but I still love it. It's far from great but I love how weird it is, and it opened my mind to other aspects of metal. Being 18 at the time definitely helped, I was eager for anything that sounded different.

I actually think the album cover for the dreadful hours is one of their best.

1. Turn Loose the Swans (perfect, it has the aggression, the melody, the great lyrics, the beautiful artwork. It should be listened has a whole. My fav album of all time 10/10) 2. The Angel and the Dark River (perfect 10/10 but without the growls ahah) 3. The Dreadful Hours (9/10, brilliant output and their heaviest album to date) 4. The Light at the End of the World (9/10 slow unrelenting guitar driven misery, their best track ever She Is The Dark is here) 5. As the Flower Withers (8/10 i love the twisted, distorted and romantic decadence of it) 6. Like Gods of the Sun (8/10 great adaptation of the MDB sound to modern mainstream sound without losing identity) 7. Songs of Darkness, Words of Light (8/10 going full goth doom with a more smooth sound, some of their best ever moments are here) 8. 34.788%... Complete (7,5/10 i actually enjoy the trippy weirdness of this album, i come back to it often despite being a very different album) 9. A Line of Deathless Kings (7,5/10 a bit inconsistent but has a few fabulous tracks) 10. Feel the Misery (7/10 not a big fan of the post-2006 albums. FTM has a couple of good tracks, but sounds "tired" and repetitive) 11. The Ghost of Orion (7/10 same as above. The Long Black Land is a great track but the album as whole feels unsatisfactory) 12. A Map of All Our Failures (6/10 i know people who like this one a lot, but for me its a mess of an album, lots of ideas and no love for editing. Most songs should be cut in half) 13. For Lies I Sire (6/10 i like 3 songs from this album. Enough said)

Songs of Darkness Words of Light was my introduction to the band, I picked it up when it first came out. The Dreadful Hours was the next album I got into. I like a bit of their stuff but those two are my favorites

Such a fantastic and consistent band! They quickly became one of my favourites when getting into Death/Doom and I love every album I’ve heard (still need to get to the latest 3 and Evinta). My favourites would be Turn Loose the Swans, The Angel and the Dark River, The Dreadful Hours and Songs of Darkness, Words of Light. 34.788% would be at the bottom of my list too but I actually really enjoy it still. The early EPs (Symphonaire & Thrash) are also great and heavy as $hit! Thanks Questy 🤘🤘

I remember buying The Angel and the Dark River back in 98/99 at my favorite music store which no longer exists. I didn't know who they were and was still very new to underground metal. I was just looking at covers and band names and then deciding to check them out. It was hard to tell with Angel and the Dark River if it was going to be heavy or something very ambient and experimental. When i listened to it i was immediately hooked. The Cry of Mankind was the first song i learned from them on guitar. The 90's era is my favorite but the 2001 album The Dreadful Hours is my favorite. The newest album i was kinda disappointed. Its just kinda short and songs dont really go anywhere. The ep that came out afterward i actually enjoy more. Those songs should have been included on the full length. I have everything from this band including boxsets, eps, demos, you name it its a massive beautiful collection. 17. Evinta (not actually a real album because doesn't have the whole band. I still enjoy it though) 16. The Ghost of Orion 15. Macabre Cabaret (3 song ep that should have been released as part of Ghost of Orion. Album would have been stronger) 14. The Vaulted Shadows (two eps put together to make a full length) 13. A Map Of All Our Failures 12. Feel the Misery (i wish i could rank higher because this album grows on me with each listen) 11. Songs of Darkness Words of Light 10. For Lies I Sire 9. A Line of Deathless Kings 8. As the Flower Withers 7. Trinity (3 early eps put together to make a full length. Amazing band. Turn Loose The Swans is one of the greatest albums of all time. The Angel and the dark river would be my number two.

Logically everyone has a different list. For me there is also this list, but in contrast to you, I have a very clear number 1 and have been since the album was released. It's "The Dreadful Hours" - Just perfect for me.

I love My Dying Bride and such a treat to have seen them on The Angel and Dark River tour which is my favorite album, then Turn Loose the Swans, Dreadful Hours and Like Gods of the Sun. And, yes the 34.788% album was a huge misstep in a great catalogue..Even the logo change is always a sign of something bad to come, and it did at least for that album..

MDB seems to be one of those bands where your favourite is either a) the one everyone expects, or b) literally any other album. Nice rundown! Making my own was the hardest of any band I love. 14. Before I even started the video, I knew Songs of Darkness was going to be your number one, because it's number one for a hell of a lot of people. I agree with the list, but Light at the End of the World will always be my number one next to Songs of Darkness, cause that was my first MDB album I ever heard when I was 15, back when I were a wee lad XD

I agree Songs of Darkness, Words of Light is their best one. Every track in this album is a memorable and banging dirge.

1. Trinity - impossible to beat. Although not an actual album but a collection of their early EPs. I still remember seeing their "Symphonaire Infernus et Spera Empyrium" clip in Headbanger's Ball for the first time - totally blew me away and it still does to this very day. That haunting violin... 2. The Angel And The dark River - I simply can't get enough of "The Cry of Mankind" - whenever I play it, I have to play it at least three times, for me their best song. 3. a shared place for too many albums as MDB is probably the hardest band to actually rank the albums. So 3rd place goes to The Light at the End of the World, Songs of Darkness Words of Light, A Line of Deathless Kings, Turn Loose the Swans and even 34.788%...Complete. I don't see why people don't like it. It is a huge step aside from MDB style, but the music itself is just another (trippy) perfection, noone else in the metal world did go this far and still kept it true to their unique style. 4. all the rest

Thanks for doing this one. I will give you my top 3 . As strange as it sounds I have not heard everything from My Dying Bride: 3. Feel The Misery. It has And my father left me forever as I lost my Dad too just like Aaron. Plus I love the closing track. 2. The Dreadful Hours. I think this has the most variety of all the album. Even the songs without the death growls it can sound quite frightening. The last song is a remake of a song off of As The Flower Withers but improves on it. 1. Turn Loose The Swans This is not only my favorite My Dying Bride album it is my number 1 album of any metal band. The violins ? Oh my God. Album starts slow and then builds up. The climax is the title track. Then it slows down to the beginning on the last track with the female vocals Questy the way you feel about Still Life is the way I feel about Turn Loose The Swans.
