Gosh the effects in this movie, the smoke, rain, sand and especially the water animation, it looks so real, like SO REAL! How is it possible to animate this good!
The '' Moana & Vaiana '' thing is because in some countries they had to change it from Moana to Vaiana, because there was an Italian porn actress with the name Moana. And they did not want children to find porn while looking for the movie . Eventhough there are no results of the actress anyway, but still they changed it , mostly in Europe .
in Māori culture there are gods for domains like the forest, the ocean, the wind, growing and cultivating crops, volcanoes etc and Maui was the demi god who went up against the gods and either defeated, tricked and won things for us, like fire, coconuts, he fished up my country Aotearoa, he gave the sun a hiding to slow it down so the days would be longer- i grew up with his stories and revisiting them as an adult has been crazy, some versions are not super kid friendly lol. Awesome to see you checking these films out:)
Hey are you also nz as well like me bc it's hard to find people who is also nz on social media I find it cool thst this is kind of a nz disney princess movie
@@Vyke-roundtableKnight that laughing emoji doesn't really hold much weight, it's kind of just a thing people use to end their sentences. Wouldn't think that deeply about it
It’s not the most obvious thing in the world, but if you pay attention, you’ll notice that saving the sea turtle is kind of a test. if you pay attention, you notice that right after saving the sea turtle, there’s like a magical energy pulse wave that bursts out across the ocean. later on the ocean will also perform other tests to test to resolve and find out if she’s ready to face the journey ahead, and the tests it will bring.
Honestly, I think Moana was correct in having to go out passed the reef. Sure, yes, she wants nothing more than to explore, but I believe she was thinking about her tribe more than herself. If you can't survive locally, you have no choice but to stretch yourselves farther. Both father and daughter were right in their own way.
I love Moana's development, but Maui's personal growth was amazing. From being such a vain, self-absorbed, borderline narcissistic demigod to becoming a kind-hearted and loving friend and mentor is awesome, plus hearing Dwayne "The Rock" Johnson sing is pretty damn badass. I love how they cast Nicole Scherzinger (lead singer of The Pussycat Dolls) as Moana's mother.
It's not that Amazon got the name wrong, but that the name was changed in many countries because there's a porn actress who shares the same name, and they didn't want kids finding her videos by accident when googling for the movie.
@@fumetsu-950they changed it more more european countries so that kids wont find the porn actress when googling this movie, even tho you wouldnt really find anything of her with just googling the name🙂
@fumetsu-950 Yeah... but if they share the same name, you run the risk of kids finding the porn star instead of the movie when they search for it on the internet lol
@@God_of_Anime123well I don’t know which one but Te Fiti is definitely based on a real mountain in the Philippines called “Mt. Makiling” the shape of the mountain looks like a girl sleeping.
The "haka" that Maui does is a traditional war dance, used to intimidate opponents before battle. Warriors would do the haka as a scare tactic, sometimes in hopes of warding off the enemies before any fighting and bloodshed broke out. It is also very sacred, because warriors use it to call upon their ancestors and spirits to fill them with strength and physical abilities for the upcoming battle. In modern times, it is performed for cultural ceremonies, and is performed most famously before Aotearoa's (NZ) All Black rugby team play rugby. They do this for the same reasons that they would for battle back in the day (except its just rugby not war). Although all islands in the pacific (polynesia, melanesia, mirconesia) have war dances that are different and unique but of the same nature, but the term "Haka" is mainly used by the Maori of Aotearoa, New Zealand. It's also important to note two more things: First off, this movie is not an "NZ movie" as a lot of the comments down below have claimed. It's a movie about a Pasifika princess and pasifika culture and our history as voyagers. There are elements throughout the movie that have been taken from islands all over the pacific. In fact, there isn't really any part of this movie that is solely based on one pacific country. There are Maori, Tongan, Samoan, Kuki Arangian, Tahitian, Hawai'ian, Fijian and even more elements from other island countries in the pacific. And my second important note is: remember that this movie is all about real cultural customs, stories and characters that real people care immensely about because they are part of their history and culture. Maui, for example, is a character that is the topic of many stories across the pacific. He was used to explain why things like fire, daylight, coconut trees and islands existed back before our people had scientific evidence. So if you don't know something, or something during the film captures your interest, its better to research said things before commenting or saying stuff that is not true and is a little insulting. Right, sorry for the essay, but thats it. Love your videos by the way Don!
43:17 "im pretty sure thats a south american thing" dawg legit said earlier it was Aoteoroa's rugby team before but switched up and said its south american... aingggggg
26:07 As a man I'm surprised you didn't understand that part. You could tell from the smile Maui had, and the face of disgust that Moana pulled, that he had pissed in the water.
Much of the music is provided by the contemporary Polynesian group "Te Vaka". You can find their videos and music on RU-vid and elsewhere online. Wonderful stuff.
Maui supposedly needs the hook for his transformation powers. However, without the hook, he is still a demigod, and therefore still has his super strength in mortality, and a few other things including the magic tattoos.
Actually in most places in Europe more specifically Italy there is a porn actress named Moana and they didn’t want kids to see that while searching for the movie so they in some parts they changed her name to Vaiana
You probably got confused about if it was "How far I go" at the end because the version in the movie is sung by the voice actress Auli'i Cravalho and the one at the end is sung by by pop singer Alessia Cara and it is remixed too.
The ‘South American rugby ting’ is a Maori cultural and ceremonial dance, with the stamping of feet, movement, and shouting. Usually taking place to welcome esteemed guests, or for special occasions or great achievements. I also found out about it through sports teams😂 it’s awesome
Technically, calling Maui a demigod is inaccurate, A demigod is someone who, in mythology, has one parent who is a god or goddess and the other is mortal (human). Therefore, because Maui was born to human parents, PLURAL, he is actually a shapeshifting god.
12:14 this shot is amazing 😂 And the Vaiana thing is bc in some countries the name was already used. For example in France it’s due to numerous brands having the names. In some countries she is even name Oceania
yeah that was like the NZ haka lol. A lot of this like with Maui is taken from the beliefs of the Māori and Polynesian culture which is why i guess they have that in to show the a bit of Māori/nz culture. also a lot of the voice actors r from here as well.
She was actually 14 when she was casted! At least that’s what I remember from a bts video on the DVD, when they started recording I can’t say, buy she might’ve been even younger in the beginning stages of recording, so even more impressive!
Also they keep saying Vaiana in the subtitles, because you probably got wrong subtitles. In some countries she's renamed to Vaiana instead of Moana because of some reasons 💀
Another sign of a true Disney noob is being surprised when the movie turns out to be a musical. when it’s Disney animation studios without Pixar‘s involvement, it’s more of a surprise if it’s not a musical. at least to a certain extent
with how much you like the music you should react to the Hamilton Musical. Its made by the same man who created the songs, and he plays as the lead (Alexander Hamilton). Afterwards, I recommend a "top 10 things you didnt know about Hamilton video" since he adds alot of weird details.
@@Ma1hematics2013 Lin recorded the original cast during 3 performances and clipped them together to make a movie form of the musical. He actually ended up getting it on Disney Plus during quarantine.
The death of Māui His last trick, which led to his death, involved the goddess Hine-nui-te-pō. In an attempt to make mankind immortal, he changed into a worm and Māui entered her vagina, intending to leave through her mouth while she slept; but was crushed by the obsidian teeth in her vagina.
Hey, i am a proud and true kiwi and the chant he did on the mountain wasn’t quite nz but more Samoa, Tonga, Rarotonga. These countries were the first to populate nz. So in some ways yes it is nz but it came from the Polynesian islands
I believe the name Vaiana is for Europe and moana in america, im not 100% sure but there is trademark conflict with this movie name in Europe so i think most of the coutnries in Europe calls this Vaiana instead of Moana
