I'm still sad that no one in Hollywood took a look at this movie, saw Smith and Goldblum's chemistry, and thought "Huh, maybe we should make more movies with those two together..."

Unfortunately they did...but way too late. There was an Independence Day 2 but it was easily forgotten (came out maybe like 3 years back?). I think if they made it sooner after this one, and kept the same directors and people. Probably would've been more successful

Still the best hype speech in any movie ever. Still remember seeing a meme(yeah I know it more than likely isn't real) of a facebook post of someone asking for some inspirational words because they were feeling down and someone copied the entire speech as a reply. So damn funny.

I was lucky enough to get to see the pre-screening. And instead of flying a jet up into the ship the old guy flew his biplane with a nuke strapped to the side of it up in to it. Witch was a bit unrealistic seeing as the jets were having a hard time fighting the alien crafts.

despite this film being American, with all the holiday associations, its message doesn't exclude the rest of the world. It WAS and American holiday, but now it's the day that the whole of humanity fought back and took the day for us all.

Same, although the novelization made it a point to mention that the father's memories of the aliens were different from the actual aliens that had been invading. I.E. even with aliens being real, they weren't HIS aliens.

That's not neccessarily a sign of hate. Most Americans weirdly love seeing their home towns blown up. I saw this in a theater outside of Houston. When the President nukes Houston in this movie, there was wild applause. Someone yelled that if landed on the Fifth Ward they'd have alien's hubcaps off in less than 5 minutes.

The director Roland Emmerich is a German filmmaker who made several more disaster movies during his career. Godzilla (1998) The Day After Tomorrow (2004) 2012 (2009) Independence Day: Resurgence (2016) Emmerich is nicknamed the "Master of Disaster" because of these types of films.

Actually, I think she should watch the small movie called Roswell with Martin Sheen. Also, at the same time that Independence Day came out, there was a similar movie with Charlie Sheen called The Arrival. Another good one would be Fire in the Sky which is the story that Russell Casse character is based on. And of course Close Encounters of the Third Kind. Maybe the Abyss too.

The line, “and what the hell is that smell.” was improved. The location of filling was an old sea bed and smelt like dead fish or that’s what I’ve heard.
