I would LOVE if you’d do an updated version of this video. Considering at the time of this video you were getting far too lean and ultimately damaging your health! Now you’re in such a balanced place with your diet and exercise, it would be great to hear the story of how you got over being super shredded for the sake of getting your period back and being more balanced.

People forget skinny isn’t fit. I’m 98 lbs and I have saddlebags, muffin top and navel belly fat. I’m five foot. I’ve always been very skinny but age will put weight on you skinny looking or not. My thin body looks great in clothes but without I can see the trouble spots. So please don’t be to harsh when a thin person says they are biggest they have been and want to lose weight/ get fit. We know what our body can look like so added weight to us is still fat. We see ourselves naked.

L.W. Tomaso - I understand this from the perspective of having lost 25-35kg down to my lightest weight, a weight I didn't even think was possible for my body (51kg/112lbs @ 160cm/5"3) and noticed that despite also looking good in clothes, there was still a lot of body fat. I have since learned that my body is also quite petite and needs muscle on its frame to look its best. Otherwise I look skinny fat too.

@Jess-Rabbit
@Jess-Rabbit 7 лет назад
That's not true AT ALL. I have a similar body type to Sarah (a bit taller though) and I've never bulked and am now lean and stronger than I've ever been. I still have work to do and am not trying to brag, but when I started lifting heavy I built muscle immediately (and still am) and that was also while trying to recover from a 10 year eating disorder and being very underweight. I am still at the low end of weight for my height, yet I deadlift 205 lbs. My point is, bulking and cutting might work for some people in circumstances where it is necessary (like bodybuilding) but it absolutely is not the only way to get lean and fit what-so-ever and you don't need to do a bulk in order to get strong

But i only lift heavy and have lost inches and gotten more slim/lanky/girly with toned definition. Lifting heavy doesn't make you bulky. You had fat on top of muscle that's what creates the bulk. More muscle creates a leaner physique. But if you have extra fat on top you think you're getting bulky. Glad you're in a good spot. I'm going through the same thing :)

Sara Pavan, well, that`s true! But I can def. see it`s A LOT about how she looks also. But like you said - if she is happy that way, that`s what most matters. Thought I think one looses the phisique with the age anyway and a little superficial to concentrate your happiness on that this much and to obsess that much with your body. And I personally even don`t think her body looks good. But my opinion doesn`t matter anyway. It`s her body, her scence of aestethic! :)

No I think what they meant was that you don't have to be really really skinny. Everything in the normal weight range is healthy. That's why it's called "normal weight". I was anorexic and bulimic from age 10 to 14 and by now I have recovered, I am at the upper half of the normal bmi (bmi of 22) and I eat what my body asks for, whilst exercising a bit, cuz it makes me feel good. This isn't fat. I am not fat. I am healthy. I am way healthier than when I was underweight, when I had the exact measurements of what models are supposed to have (90-60-90) and I was way way waaay healthier than when I was even thinner.

Just a tip for people who are watching this video now. To have energy and lose weight on a vegan diet you have to eat heaps of protein. You can have your carbs and fats really easily (vegetable, fruit, bread, rice etc) so finding protein is super hard. That's why people don't stick to vegan diets because they see no results. But it just takes a bit more time to understand how to include more protein in your diet :)) 1.6-2.2kg of protein per kg works amazing:)

Honestly, I can totally relate to this! I went through the same! I switched so many diets, from Macro-diets to Ketogenic etc and took them all to the extreme and never listened or caved into my cravings. After of a horrible diet breakdown and a bad eating habits that caused many issues to my health, my hormones and my mental health I turned to a paleo diet, but just like yourself, not to the extreme. I slowly began to realise what my body worked best on, my hormones balanced, my skin and hair started glowing again... I have also never felt better in my own skin and body. I agree that taking a diet to the extreme and not listening to your needs is not the best for your health. Every single person and how their body works, what it needs, what it can absorb etc is so different! I personally function better with fish and lots of red meat whereas others can't have it as much! Being in tune with your body's needs is key to overall health!

I'm really happy you mentioned raw vegan not working for you. I've seen a few of the raw vegan you tubers say that is works for everyone, which simply isn't true. Like you, I was having huge smoothies with seven bananas and heaps of dates, massive salads with avocado and nuts. I felt awful. At first I felt like I was on a sugar high all the time, but after months of following this diet, my skin was a total mess, my hair was falling out and I would go through awful extreme highs and lows with my energy. My body just didn't respond well to the massive amount of carbs and sugar and as a result my blood sugar was so unstable. For some, raw veganism is life changing in a positive way but not for me!

I'm going through something very similar. To anyone out there trying to lose weight or get fit and healthy again, I just want to say that you don't have to try so hard, you're perfect just the way you are. I was completely obsessed over what I ate, and I actually gained weight while trying to lose it because I would eat extremely healthy, then lose control, give into my cravings, and binge. I finally just gave up, and accepted myself for who I was. I made healthier choices, but I didn't obsess over it like I was before, and as I said, I was starting to really learn to love myself, and my body. It's been 2 months since then and I've lose 15 pounds barely even trying. Basically what I'm trying to say is, keep in mind that you're GORGEOUS, and I'm not just saying that. Stop trying so hard, make healthier choices, and most importantly, LOVE YOURSELF! 💞💞

I was the same at your age! In my twenties now and maintained a slim figure for a couple of years - my advice is DON'T DIET - you'll just crave junk food too much. Try eating healthy 5 days a week, and allowing yourself to cheat on weekends. You'll be surprised how much weight you still lose, and the cheat day's make the healthy eating in the week easier. I still live by this now and it's fantastic. Also lift weights! Massive increase to metabolism so you can eat even more!

I just recently started watching these videos and I'm really enjoying them! I struggled with an eating disorder about 2 years ago and have had a couple food related problems since, but watching your videos helps to remind me how important it is to take care of your body. Although I'm younger and still a teenager, I have the same goals you had about being strong and having lean muscle and feeling really good on the inside and i love seeing how it worked for you. I know peoples bodies are different so what you say may not work for me exactly, but I think this summer (I live in America) I'm going to really focus and give it a try. Sorry this is a really long comment, but I'm feeling really connected after watching this and want to truly say thank you :)

Yes! I appreciate this so much. I also grew up a dancer/gymnast and went through the same exact fitness stages as you. I started trying to eat a more paleo-based diet a couple months ago, incorporating more healthy fats & less artificial sweeteners in my diet and I've seen a huge difference. Recently I started getting sucked back into social media trends of lifting heavy weights/bodybuilding style workouts (which I actually don't enjoy at all but thought I needed to do it bc everyone else was) and eating bro foods/protein shakes and using stevia/fake sugars (like all the fitness people do) -- but I'm so glad I watched this video. It definitely helped ground me and bring me back to what works for me. I've been getting so wrapped up in social media and believing that the workouts/food plans that people follow are the ONLY way to get lean and fit. But it's important to ALWAYS listen to your body first and to find a way of living that is maintainable in the long run (like you said). So thank you! :)

Such a good video!! I totally get the 'skinny fat' thing. 5"3, 100 pounds and no muscle at all. I'm vegetarian and I don't eat dairy, I eat as healthy as possible, I'm very active I do HIIT workouts and yoga but there is no muscle happening whatsoever. I'm skinny but squishy just like how you were saying. I went vegan for a bit but that didn't respond well with my body, lost a lot of weight and I am now trying to gain a bit back but I want to gain muscle! Really am enjoying your videos and tips, I'm definitely going to apply some of the things that you do into my life. Thanks so much for this video!!

Sandra Lang how can raw veg effect the thyroid? I'm just curious as I'm in waiting to get tests for an under active thyroid
@sandrab2422
@sandrab2422 7 лет назад
I had most of my ´thyroid removed because of cold nodules (they can become cancerous) I had 7-8 by the time I had surgery. I made it my mission after surgery to find our everything I could about the thyroid and how to get off meds. before my 6 week checkup. I found out that coconut oil aids in the health of your thyroid I started taking the recommended dosage 3 tbs. daily. At my six week checkup they decided that I could continue without medication as my thyroid ( a little peice) was healthy. Then I found out that some vegetables are groitengens. They affect the thyroid adversly if not blanched or cooked. There is a long list of the veggies that we thyroid afflicted people should not eat raw. Broc. Caul. and many more. Mushrooms should not be eaten raw, not because of the thyroid but because they contain some sort of crazy chemical naturally that can trigger cancer. I now saute mine. (I just found out about this) Let me know how you do on your results. I messed my thyroid up in the 90´s by restricting my carb intake for many years. I am still Sinthroid free after 7 years and I still consume cocunut oil. I go for a checkup every 3 months.

Hey Sarah, you can be really proud of yourself. You look very lean and you really work hard for it. But I think, that you should try to use less terms like "disgusting" or "bad" for the way you looked before. First of all because you should never describe yourself with such terms and second, because there are people (me included) who are trying really hard to lose some weight and look leaner. And maybe some people now think "so, am I disgusting?" I am absolutely sure that you dont want to make people feel that way and maybe didnt think that someone could think stuff like that. But me for myself, who can absoluty feel with you when it comes to, lets call it "eating-disorder-behavior", just wants to say that I think that some young girls maybe start to think that they are disgusting if they are not as lean as you are. Go on with what you are doing. I really enjoy watching your videos :)

Young girls and people in general. I love this channel (LOVE) but I happen to agree. Its important to be mindful of the language we use for this stuff, if we call ourselves something negative when we look a certain way, using judgemental language, others who haven't reached that yet will think that there is something wrong with them. Its contagious! Its all about the language and judgement though, because the fact that she/you noticed something that you didn't like and found a way to change it is inspiring. Simply not being happy with yourself and being proactive is great, but i think it's important to think of the impact the way we talk about these things can have on others.

its very interesting to listen to your journey! i decided to loose weight last december and i lost almost 15 kg during the summer,hiis workouts,lots of salad and nooooo junk! untill last month somehow i started my university semester and while i am studing i am suddenly thinking about snacks, chips, chocolate, pizza all the things that i am aware of its calories! so its like one of your past stages where you felt counting calories a lot but i am cheating a bit and eating without my normal system and now i dont know how to back to my cool previous way of eating since i have no more time for hard workouts and concentrate only to loose weight, i am now trying to eat fruits as snacks but somehow i always end up having more than i planned to or still hungry after already eating my ususal raw salad, do you have any further recommendation?

Your story reminds me so much of mine!! I used to obesses so much over my eating and too much, and once I started eating according to what I feel like eating and accustoming my body to healthy tastes, my diet is so much cleaner and easier to stick to. I tried being vegan as well but still eat fish and eggs for the most part, and again , from listening to my body, not sure I could go all the way to giving it up completely solely because I don't ever FEEL as fully satisfied on solely vegan food nor stay full as long (which may be something I'm dong wrong) but its much easier for my lifestyle to stick to at least fish and I feel great!
