No replacement hormone therapy...all natural. Thank goodness. I had no problems. No mood swings...just night sweats for about 3 months. That was it. I am very thankful & blessed. 👍😊🙏

I'm 38 and 2 weeks post op from total laproscopic hysterectomy (kept ovaries) procedure to 5 hours and surgeon said it was difficult due to all the adhesions. mobility is getting easier. My belly is still sore, especially the upper right incision. I have noticed no more thigh pain 🙌🏽 prayers to all whom have or going to go thru this operation. I was so nervous because of the potential complications, but was surgeon was fantastic and I'm doing OK❤❤

Awe Renee, thank you so much for this informative video. As a nurse of over 20 years, I can explain post-op surgery instructions, but this is the real deal. God bless you for being so open and honest. The only thing I could add to this, (I've had 3 laparoscopic surgeries myself) is regarding the gas. The gas is not in a place where gas pills will help. During surgery, the doctor puts air (hydrogen usually) in your abdomen to be able to see everything easier. Think about putting an object inside a balloon that's deflated. If you blow up the balloon, you can then see that object from every side. This is how they can see the body organ they're operating on, and the areas to avoid. That air eventually absorbs into your bloodstream, and you can get chest and shoulder discomfort. The only way for that gas to absorb is to be upright and take short walks. Air moves upward and absorbs more quickly (gravity moves it up since air is lighter than our blood and our bodies). Thank you for being so open and honest with your experience. Best wishes in your journey. 😊❤

Is it normal to still be bloated two weeks after?? My belly is still swollen 😞
@victoriaboster1177
@victoriaboster1177 Год назад
Oh boy. Nurses should give nursing advice, not medical or scientific advice. No we definitely are not pumped full of hydrogen gas! That would be pretty catastrophic on a routine basis. Typically it’s CO2. And yes the pills can help marginally better the gas is absorbed-sorry again-not by “gravity” but by the mechanics of our capillary and vessel absorption systems and then by our normal metabolism which takes a while, hence the pain.

When your doctor tells you to take it easy and not lift, push or pull anything over 10 lbs, believe them. A friend and I had robotic assisted surgery a week apart. I followed instructions and had a smooth recovery, no pain meds needed. My friend did too much, too soon and had complications and pain. My advice to anyone having surgery is to have all your house work done and meals prepared before going to the hospital.

@@princesabonita79 Well, being a nurse you, more than most of us, know exactly what your doctor knows. Normally, I can come up a hundred reasons for not doing something. This was not one of those times. I had surgery 20 days after my initial exam. There was a chance, in fact every doctor I saw prior to the gynecologic oncologist, suspected my cyst was cancerous. That prospect reprioritized everything in my life. Thankfully, everything was benign and surgery was completed laparoscopically. My hysterectomy was a welcome relief and load off of my mind. It sounds like your surgery is recommended for a different reason. You'll know when it's time. You'll also know that xy&z will still be there waiting for you afterwards.

I am 71, and glad this 1st part of my journey is over. Will have a post-op appt. in a week & 1/2 to learn of my stage of cancer. One thing that I found different from other women stories is that my whole trunk area is bruised like an eggplant. I had robotic assisted laparoscopy with 5 small incisions and then needed a large bikini line incision to remove humongous fibroid and the rest of uterus, fallopian tubes & ovaries. So grateful for the surgery.

It has been 50 years since I had a c-section ... where the incision was quite large back then I can still remember that having to cough and find that small pillow in time was crucial! The pain from a simple cough left you throbbing.. also getting up from a laying position was so painful. I am 72 now and can feel your pain through the screen even today. Also I do remember feeling numb afterward when I went to pee. I knew I had to go... but my brain had a hard time telling my bladder to start. It was a strange feeling. But thankfully went away pretty quickly. The best thing is to hear you are listening to your body!

My goodness!! God bless you! So sorry for your pain...I had a total hysterectomy in 2004 for uterine cancer. My experience was totally opposite from yours. I had two c-sections for the birth of my two children. So I was 57 when my biopsy showed uterine cancer and I had surgery one month later. Because of my 2 c-sections, which had the "bikini" cut incision, the surgeon opened me up right on top of the same scar of my c-sections. This was closed up with staples not stitches. i was in the hospital for almost a week. They wouldn't let me leave without my first bowel movement. The nurse checked my incision...however, on one check she pulled out one staple so I have a depression there where the one staple on the end of the incision was pulled out. I stayed home from work to recover from the surgery but did not suffer all that you did--just wound healing, I guess. The surgeon said the cancer was small and he got it all so I did not have chemo or radiation. I think they removed the staples on that follow-up visit. I thank God for the easy recovery because I had no one around to help me. I did not suffer menopausal symptoms like you because I think I was done with menopause at age 57. I am now 76 years old....God bless you....

Thank you for this video. I’m (Amy) scheduled for a hysterectomy the first week in May, also in Nashville at Midtown, tho we live the other direction from you. I went to my regular gyno in January and asked why I was still having ridiculously heavy periods at 55. I’ve had two failed endometrial biopsy attempts and a failed d&c where my cervix was perforated so that turned into laparoscopic search and repair. So I’ve been turned over to a gyn onc who is doing the next surgery. This will be my 3rd surgery this year as I had sinus surgery in January and woke up in the middle of it. That was traumatic. I don’t want to wake up during surgery ever again! My uterus tried to kill me a couple weeks ago. I was on my 5th overnight pad by noon but it finally slowed down on its own, thank God. Most of the time I’m ready to have the surgery and get it behind me but I’m also like, I just had laparoscopic surgery a month ago and it’s depressing to have to do it again so quickly. They are taking uterus, cervix, ovaries and tubes and sentinel lymph nodes. Your videos about hysterectomy have been so helpful. Thank you! I didn’t think we would vlog about all this but idk after seeing how helpful others vlogs are. Thank you so much!

People forget because the outside is just those 5 sites, the INSIDE is MAJOR SURGERY! And your healing is that of major surgery! And because you are a "little girl", that swelling is especially pronounced! But when it heals, the sites all fade over time! I am just so thankful for your candid post op experience! This really can help other women! Those abdominal glue sites will look "dirty", but come off on their own. Do not pull anything off. Let it come off on its own with multiple showers. Thank you, Rene! Well welcome to the club!! I had a full hysterectomy at age 28, due to fibromyalgia. I am now 56 years old and I can definitely tell you I was in full menopause about four days after my hysterectomy surgery was done. One thing you might want to look into getting onto, is bio-identical hormones. They have been a lifesaver for me not having hot flashes.. I think if I had to have a hysterectomy all over again, I would’ve had it done the same way that I did the first time round, which was a small 4 inch incision on my bikini line, which you can’t even see it anymore as It has healed up so nice over the years.. Anyway, best of luck to you and I’m glad that you’re on the mend. My mom suffered with grapefruit size fibroids. Her hysterectomy was done vaginally, and I can’t say that was not a pleasant way to have it done. Anyway, cheers from Australia

Hi Stephanie I hope you don't mind me asking what was it about your fibromyalgia that led you to having your hysterectomy? I have Adenomyosis and fibroids and fibromyalgia. I am about to have a hysterectomy myself. You are the first person I've seen talk about fibromyalgia and hysterectomy. My fibromyalgia has absolutely impacted my ability to deal with myself during the torrential bleeding I experience for over 20 days of the month. I am curious how the stress of the hysterectomy is going to impact the fibro and cause a flare up. Did you find this happened with you and did it impact your recovery ? Sorry for all the questions, I just felt some relief to see somebody mention hysterectomy and fibromyalgia together.

i just had the same surgery on august 10th! i didn't want to look up any videos about it because of my anxiety but now that it's done i'm interested in learning about other people's experiences. i'm 26 so i'm nervous about starting menopoause and wanted see how other people handled it and possible side effects during recovery. i pretty much had the same exact experience as you did before the surgery but after the surgery, i woke up in recovery, had some ice chips, drank some water, peed, and i pretty much was out of the hospital less than an hour after surgery. the first day felt like i pulled every muscle in my body but once i took the medication they prescribed me, i felt normal and couldn't sit still. my belly is still swollen and I've been gassy, and it took about three days for my throat to get back to normal form the tube. it hasn't even been a week yet but i think the healing process for me might be an easy process (hopefully). I've been able to bend and move around without any issues. i still have a ways to go but besides my belly and some soreness here and there (belly and lower back) i think that's hopefully all i have to worry about. i have four incisions (one right on or in my belly button) and despite some rashes from the bandages i haven't had any issues with them yet. the only thing i need to figure out now is when they're going to prescribe me harmone pills but i'm sure they'll tell me everything at my post-op appointment. I've never had surgery before so i was terrified but it was definitely worth it. i was having a lot of issues with my period and my mom happened to have had a gene called lynch syndrome (and had stage three uterine cancer), and when it came back that i also had lynch syndrome my doctor was quick to mention getting a hysterectomy so we didn't even go into a lot of detail regarding my period issues since this would most likely take care of all my problems. i'm excited to heal and hopefully feel normal, like there isn't something constantly wrong with me. thank you so much for sharing your experience! it definitely helped me feel a lot better about getting it done!

Continued recovery wishes for you. My boyfriend had DaVinci surgery for prostate cancer February 7. Even though we live in Raleigh NC he chose to have it done at Sloan Kettering in NYC. We are so glad we went there, they are top of the line in cancer care and the surgeon was fantastic. Luckily I'm an ICU nurse so I was able to help take care of him when we got home. Unfortunately we had to fly. Glad you're feeling better. I think a lot of people don't realize how much surgery takes out of them. welcome to my world of menopause 😄

I had a partial hysterectomy in my early thirties due to endometriosis and severe monthly bleeding and my blood count was low. The doctor left my ovaries so I would not have to go through menopause so early. I had incision above my pubic area. And you don’t see the incision line. Lap surgery the insert all that air to blow you up in order to do the surgery and move the equipment around. An incision line is better. I didn’t have all the problems you had. I stayed in the hospital for 3-4 days. That was in the early 2000’s. Amazing how my son’s fiancé had an emergency C-Section and she cared for a 9 pound 8 ounce baby boy. She was such a trooper. I stayed with her throughout the whole time she was in the hospital. Praying for you and your recovery. I am. 55 years old tomorrow and I haven’t gone through menopause yet.

Thank you for being honest. I found people online who acted like a mastectomy was easy. Due to breast cancer I also had to have a mastectomy and felt inadequate and weak because my recovery was not that easy as others described. I now have to get a hysterectomy due to high cancer risk and glad to hear you give an honest testimony of your recovery, and that it may not be so easy.

Well I had a partial hysterectomy this past Wednesday on 6/21 and I can relate to some of your experiences. My doctor gave me the option to stay in the hospital for 24 hours and I’m so glad I did. I had trouble peeing for 8 hours after surgery. I was released the day after and I’ve had some pain but it’s usually when I have done too much. I had zero gas issues and I’m so grateful. So very glad your husband could be with you in the hospital!! My husband had DaVinci robotic inguinal hernia surgery in July'21 and I had to wait outside the hospital the whole time. Having that in-person support before and after surgery is just so important. ❤ (Helpful Tip for Others: I bought a walking stick for my husband to use around the house. He used it when getting up out of the recliner and to take short walks around the house as he recovered from surgery. Really came in handy for much of the first 10 days!).

May I suggest you wait. What you would consider at 15/18 is a whole lot different than what you would consider when you're 23 or 30. I've had Crohn's disease for over 60 years now and fibromyalgia and the IBD is healed and many of the FM symptoms, etc. have been managed with diet and supplements. I had a full hysterectomy when I was in my late 40's, but definitely not due to the a compromised immune condition. Educate yourself on new techniques and methods and you'll be so proud of yourself for finding answers and solutions as you go through your journey. God bless and keep you strong and safe.

I am 65 and had the same surgery on 2/3/23. And basically the same reason. After a CT for another reason, they found a very large cyst on my right ovary. Turned out to be a 5+ cm rare tumor on my right ovary. My doctor couldn’t believe I hadn’t had issues with it. LOL! I am sorry you had issues. I was amazed at how well I felt, in fact my nurse after the surgery when I was in my room and got up to pee, couldn’t believe how good I was moving! She even asked me if I wanted to go home. I can’t believe they let you go home right away. I went in on Thursday morning and went home on Saturday. I really listened to my body, and my husband was my greatest support. It sounds like you are listening to your body also. That was the greatest tool I had and it helped tremendously! I don’t understand why they didn’t have you walking asap though. I walked in my room the first day, but the 2nd and 3rd I walked all over my floor. I didn’t have the gas problem, I mean I had gas but it wasn’t as painful as you described. Funny you spoke about your bladder, I didn’t have issues but after the surgery, I attributed my “powerful” stream to the catheter but maybe it had to do with the tumor. I went back to work as soon as I had my 2 week follow up, and was very careful not to lift/pull and never missed a beat. My co workers were very helpful, which was so helpful. I hope your menopause goes well. Happily, I went through menopause in my early 50’s so I didn’t have to go through that also.

Wow your hair looks fabulous and I’m glad you’re on the mend! I had several surgeries leading up to a full hysterectomy when I was 48. My last two surgeries, including the hysterectomy, were done by gyn oncologists. Not because I had cancer but because of the mess endometriosis had caused. My hysterectomy was outpatient on a Friday and I could’ve easily gone back to work that Monday if I had to. My incisions were also tiny. I encourage women to get a consult with a gyn oncologist for any gyn surgery unless it’s rather minor.

My cancer was due to my hormones. I’m on a chemo pill every day. I’m ok. The best feeling I had after my hysterectomy was being able to wear white pants!!! No more overnight pads, super duper tampons…. Freedom!! No more stained panties, bedding etc! My hysterectomy was vaginal and I had no issues. I’m so sorry, Renee. I’m not a medical professional, but my guess would be the size of the fibroid severely impacted the degree of discomfort and pain. I’ve had several stomach and uterine issues and resulting surgeries. I understand about the muscles. One surgery for uterine polyps, which were massive, left me with a huge bruise on my abdominal and pelvic region, about the size of a luncheon plate. I felt as if I’d been kicked in the gut. Again, I’m sorry you had a horrible experience and I’m glad you’re well on the road to recovery. Being thrown into immediate menopause is horrendous. I hope the adverse effects pass. Mine did, but I am quite fortunate.
