And this is it. I have no issue with Stephanie's journey, but I feel like she's dancing around the fact that all of the things she described as making her miserable when before All In are basically symptoms of an eating disorder. Looking at the pictures of her from 18-20 months ago, she looked like almost emaciated.
@Flow-sy

@@harlequeen93 I think she might either not realize that or doesn't have a diagnosis and therefore doesn't want to claim to have a mental illness when she's not 100 percent sure

@harlequeen93 4 года назад
@@Flow-sy that's absolutely a possibility. I just want there to be a more transparent conversation and clear acknowledgment that many of her old videos (that anyone can access and use for fitness) encouraged these behaviors as perfectly healthy when they were not. People giving her shit for gaining weight is nonsense, and at the same time with so many girls in these comments saying that she helped them through their EDs, I feel like she has a responsibility to at least acknowledge that there were some parallels between her journey and that of people who actually went/are going through EDs.

This is a modern world - this is what we've done to women. A smart, healthy woman is thinking about weight... a lot. I'm 51 and I have obsessed about my weight my entire life. It breaks my heart how much I've missed out on because I hated my body, and I still hate my body. I have no solutions, but this video is the healthiest conversation about weight that I've seen in a long time. I hope young people focus just on health - what's healthy - and being extremely overweight and underweight isn't healthy. Thanks for posting. I hope your positivity continues and that you love yourself more and more.

I always remember a story a hospice nurse said, she was caring for a person with terminal cancer, and the patient told her, “just eat the cake.” The nurse was confused, and the patient explained the same thing you said, she worried so much about what to eat or not to eat, about what was healthy or not, she wasted so much time worrying about how she looked, what she put on her body, yet she was in hospice dying of cancer. She regretted worrying so much about those insignificant things, because at the end of the day none of that mattered. She died shortly after that and the nurse said that changed her perspective permanently. Worry about making connections with people, about forming lasting memories that you can share with the future generations, about enjoying life, because that’s what you will remember when you are on your deathbed.

Stephanie. This isn’t in any way to be mean but you should talk to a therapist. You used to feel pressure to be lean and now you feel pressure to maintain your new body. Your “all in” journey has made your body healthier, but your mind is still where it was a year ago. You’re still very body focused, anxious, and a perfectionist in a new way. The body issues won’t go away unless you deal with them, and perhaps stop making these videos which focuses so heavily on your physical shape. You’ve done SO MUCH GOOD for those with eating disorders, but you can’t help anyone if you don’t help yourself.

Perhaps it time to step away from the videos surrounding your weight and comparing it to how it was pre going all in. I mean even the thumbnails you have put together with photos of your changing body and weight measurements on it, that would be difficult for anyone to put out there let alone someone who has struggled with body image. Please stop doing this to yourself, no one is focusing on your weight we just want you to do what feels healthy and positive for you both physically and mentally.

Stephanie: Something I see as an outside viewer (watching you for 3 years now) is that maybe you need to step away from focusing so much on the “All In” discussion. I know it has helped many, but practically every single video you have made has revolved around discussing your weight gain. And if it isn’t the main focus, it is still mentioned. Every YT video, IG post, IG story you make mentioning All In or you gaining weight is further associating yourself to your physical appearance or the number on the scale. It also isn’t much new information your journey either, but repeating it over and over - at times it feels like you are trying to justify the why for the weight gain or now your loss - and you have explained yourself once, which is not even necessary and you do not owe it to anyone. But you explained the same thing a second time, a third… and so on. You are more than your weight, relationship with food, or appearance. And even if All In has helped you change your life in so many positive ways… you are not restricted by this label of being “All In”. I don’t know you personally, so I’m not sure if this All In identity has taken over in your everyday, personal life. But it seems to have become your entire social media persona. I see a lot of comment saying you should take a long social media break due to how it impacts your food guilt, perception of your body, etc. And it probably isn’t realistic for you because your platform is your livelihood. So I would suggest instead, focus less on so much talk regarding your All In journey - or even food related videos. Maybe make videos on your favorite books, workouts, vlogs, whatever it may be! But please, I don’t see you making almost daily Instagram content that always relates to your All In journey or not feeling bad about the meal you are eating or showing your body as an update - that cannot be good for you or anyone. Sending you love and I am sorry for this opinion you did not ask for, but I have been thinking about this for almost a year now.

@anniehamma6732 4 года назад
This is exactly where my thoughts have been. This may just be from an outside perspective, but it seems as though “All In” has overshadowed everything else about her. It’s become her identity. And, from a mental health standpoint, that is hardly better for her than before, when her identity centered around being visibly fit and lean. I mean, you’re a goddamn doctor, Stephanie. You got a freaking PhD while building a massive online presence. You undertook an incredibly controversial (for your industry) journey in a very public format and are the better for it in many ways-the exception being the mental health hurdles you’re now facing. As someone who shares a background in science, I can feel you methodically thinking through every scenario and every potential ramification of each scenario, and every potential solution to each ramification. It makes me tired to write it, I can’t imagine how tired you are of thinking it. Your body is not an experiment. Your life is not an experiment. And that’s fine. It is fine to just BE. Without reason, without explanation, without defense. Maybe RU-vid puts creators in boxes--like you need to find your niche and hone it so you can build a reliable community. Maybe you feel like, since you stopped being the typical “fitspo” RU-vidr, you need to be the champion of all things All In. Maybe you think, this is who you are now. But that is simply untrue. RU-vid is just a job. That goes for every single creator. It’s just a job. That doesn’t mean it’s not meaningful or not worthwhile. But just, perspective. You can stop this whenever you want and find another way to make a living. One that doesn’t have you under a million microscopes, every day. You know what studying cancer taught me? That when there is a sickness in the body, the most effective treatment is to cut it out at the source. Seek professional help in identifying what the source of this anxiety and guilt truly is. And then liberate yourself from it.

In my opinion, while I do think social media and public comments have an effect, I truly believe that it's *actually* STEPHANIE who believed All In was going to be a completely linear process, a straight shot with no hurdles....NOT the public spectators. After all, being a PhD scientist, Stephanie did tons of research into diet recovery. She looked into it thoroughly, talked to experts and read scientific papers about set point, etc. She was all very methodical. She was the one who knew everything and educated viewers about it in various videos; we had little to no prior knowledge... so how could we have any preconceived notions about the process? If anyone believed it would be a linear process, it was only because Stephanie made it seem so. So in actuality, her rational, strictly data-based thinking resulted in herself being disillusioned with the process, realizing it wasn't a "miracle" cure with no side effects. Instead of saying "people think", "people may believe", she should just be honest to herself and say " *I* believed", " *I* thought..." xyz about All In and it was *I* who was mistaken. I find that once you acknowledge that your problems are under YOUR control and yours alone, you can be confident that you will eventually find a solution. You never have to worry what anyone says because you realize they never mattered in the first place.

Definitely talk to a therapist. Honestly, EVERYONE would benefit from talking to one to have a neutral ear to vent to & be given healthy coping skills or just the tools to handle/control these negative thoughts/feelings that are impacting them. Because no sane person is happy 24/7 & never runs into stress. I'm going soon since my depression & anxiety kills my appetite... I was underweight for 10yrs & just gained a bunch this year by pushing myself to eat. But I'm back to not being able to eat... (No, I don't stop myself from eating... Negative emotions removes my appetite).. also low blood sugar can cause anxiety to spike... I can't work out with the lack of calories... 😔

Am I the only one who thinks that the food is never a problem, but mental state is? Food is just one of the forms in which anxiety and depression take form and these are much deeper issues that need to be addressed with a therapist. Body and food are just external factors, working on them is not gonna help resolve deeper inner problems, Worst case scenario, food will again become the problem because everything in the videos revolves around food/body. Yes absolutely! I was very sick at one point and I thought it was all about food issues and eds but it wasnt. It was just a simple form my anxiety and depression was acting out in. When I healed truly from the inside I realized this. Im a SAS and once I conquered this and changed my life I realized food is easy. My metabolism is quicker at 33 then it was at 19. This stuff is common sense its simple but its the mental part, the mental games... that complicate it. Anyone can save their life. I was almost gone and Im here thankfully! This is a really good example of how toxic social media has become. People feel the need to explain themselves constantly to appease their audience. Social media is still fairly new and we as a society aren't grasping how much of an effect this stuff has on our sense of identity.

"People" don't care what Stephanie weighs or looks like aesthetically. Stephanie does. It would be so refreshing for her to show other parts of her life other than revolving it around food and weight. It's a shame because it's textbook behaviour for someone with an eating disorder- food and body image are all they think about,. She can't help it right now, but to say it is her audience who put the emphasis on it is simply not true. Remember people have their own lives going on, no one sits around thinking about what a stranger on the internet looks like. I would guess most of Steph's subscribers would love to see more of Stephanie the person. Not the constant "this is what I eat/this is what I weigh" ....at the end if the day it doesn't matter.

When you went all-in I realised I was underweight, constantly hungry and depressed. I decided to gain weight by just eating whatever. I'm up 12kg (26 lbs) and I had to deal with insecurities that never bothered me before. Brand new clothes not fitting me, having to get rid of a lot of pants, realising I have hip dips and that my jaw is misplaced making my face extremely asymmetrical after gaining weight, because the fat on my face is distributed unevenly. My stomach is never flat anymore, I'm constantly sweating, most of my pants don't fit around my hips anymore (went from xxs/xs to s/m) and I have buy completely new pants and sweatpants. I'm grateful that I didn't go though this all alone. Whenever I got insecure, sad or had a meltdown I watched your videos and it made me feel so much better that someone understands me. I'm anxious, paranoid and have so low apetite it makes me scared I'll loose all my progress. Because even though I'm not used to being normal weight, it's still a happier, healthier and more comfortable version of myself.

As someone with pretty severe anxiety, yes there's lots you can do yourself but to actually see change and get better it is extremely beneficial to go see a therapist if you haven't already. We have a terrible culture of perfectionism, especially for women. I really appreciate your vulnerability and honesty, Stephanie. I try to remind myself that we are not robots and life is not a linear game where we check off tasks and advance to level XYZ and start the next set of tasks for the next level. Life is messy and subject to change depending on so many factors that are often beyond our control. I'm just appreciative of your voice and especially as a BIPOC woman. Keep it up. You're doing something really important. You're also challenging a system that thrives (financially) off of chasing an unsustainable idea of perfection. Facing the anxiety head-on with the real people in your life by your side (and for me, reliance on Jesus) is the quickest way to show your fears that you don’t intend to just lay down and have your purpose -your whys-nullified. Maybe now is the time to admit to yourself that you have an eating disorder. I have an ED too. It is nothing to be ashamed off. However, ED recovery involves both physical and mental recovery. Simply gaining weight is not enough as the ED thoughts around body size, body checking are still there. Your life still revolves around your body, EG. Your Instagram. This is disordered and is probably why you are feeling such pressure to stay a particular size. You have helped me immensely along my own journey, but it is obvious you have not recovered fully from your ED. I wish you all the best and am looking forward to reading your book

I couldn't agree more. The whole focus on weight gain/loss feels tad obsessive and it personally seems to me to masks some internal issues. I don't think focusing on finding the 'perfect diet'; even if it's tailored specifically to that individual (intuitive, veganism, paleo, whatever it is) can help when there are issues internally that should be dealt with first. Just like addiction to alcohol, drugs, etc that we label as 'bad', food obsession is just another manifestation of what often is a mean to control, tool for instant gratification or a blind for lack of self worth. And no, it is nothing to be embarrassed of! We should view it as our body's signal for help and as you said, awareness and acknowledgement is the key to get started. Ofc we don't fully understand how she's feeling and thinking so I can only wish Steph nothing but the best!

I’m not sure if it’s your traditional eating disorder or if it’s the new wave of eating disorders like orthorexia and her being in the fitness community for so long which is really where I think it stems from the most. Because she wasn’t super health-conscious before but health-conscious in the minds of a “fit focused” or “fit centric” person my feelings are that her body distortion came from that time in her life where she was so focused on a certain aesthetic and being a fitness-based Instagram her and competing etc. and I think for her she got a lot of backlash from that community and probably still does and I think it’s very unfair as she’s trying to fix herself. Ultimately I think she could benefit from therapy because her life is not just what she shows she has the whole caring for her mother, a long distance relationship, a myriad of things in her own personal mind and then the all In that has really encompassed most of her thoughts not to mention the social media aspect of going all in publicly. Inappropriate therapist might not be one individual therapist but two separate dealing with the ED element which may not even be NED but it could be because of the background she comes from and then the element of everything else that encompasses her life. It’s very clear that she is a perfectionist and I think a lot of that is a heavy weight to bear I personally see a therapist for 1 million different things and was diagnosed with OCPD and had to see a second therapist to deal with that issue alone, also in this instance of anxiety and my belief in naturopathic living I still believe in anxiety medication it has changed my life. I once had a doctor tell me I would be in the ground if I didn’t get it together, maybe she just needs a doctor to give her that push she needs. Sometimes you have to be scared to really make changes but it would have to be from a doctor she genuinely cares for. Although she may already be seeking steps to see a therapist Or be seeing a therapist and just not mentioning it either way I wish her so much wellness for her internal as well as her external health because both parts are equally important.

don't just throw around the word eating disorder like this.. if you are also suffering from one you should know that someone with an eating disorder would never be able to do this 'whole in' thing so easily, they would for sure never just decide to do it by themselves... i'm not saying she didn't have a hard time but for someone with an ED such a thing is unimaginable (or at least it feels like it is) ... one needs a lot of therapy to come to a point where they are ready to try and when they do they need a lot of professional help..they probably wouldn't manage on their own..especially the first few meals would be a nightmare ...also cheat days that she used to do are completely unimaginable for someone with an ED no matter how much you restrict...someone can be highly preoccupied with their appearance or have some disordered eating habits but not everyone has an ED.. please don't label so easily.. ED involves a lot of other behaviours and thoughts that you couldn't know if she had or not..

Rather than seeing a therapist about her insecurities and struggles she let's it all out on RU-vid. I can see how that's therapeutic like she mentioned. And while it sounds great, I also can't help but feel that it might be counter intuitive to her wanting to ignore/get over outsider opinions (at least I'm this phase of her life). That's why people go to therpists because they're certified and trained to handle the things that she's sharing. The fact that people claim she’s obese is crazy. Obese is when you’re so overweight it keeps you from doing everyday things like walking. She is also NOT promoting obesity. She’s promoting hormone restoration and metabolic restoration in people who have been in restricted diets. I don’t think a lot of people realize that women need some fat on their bodies. No fat on a body is unhealthy. Fat was made for a reason. Yes too much isn’t good, but she’s clearly healthy and if you think otherwise, you’ve got some problems. Eating to satiety (not over/undereating) should not be considered unhealthy. Period.

Yeah the medical definition of obesity is NOT “when you are so overweight it keeps you from doin everyday things like walking.” To get to that level of obesity most people need to be hundreds of lbs overweight. You can be obese and still function normally (though not optimally). The danger and consequences of obesity happen over a long period of time- years. At class one obesity I was RUNNING everyday. That didn’t help my ever increasing blood pressure. I am no longer remotely close to obese; I’m on the low end of healthy and I feel fantastic.

Being obese is not defined as when you’re so overweight it stops you from walking. It’s a medical definition that uses height and weight to give you a number. Unpopular opinion but here we go: I was all on board w her all in, if it helps her thats all that matters. But ive noticed that even after "the hard part" of her journey she still has huge struggles with her appearance. I stopped following her ig because every other post or story were about how she has good days and then bad ones and she's still very insecte. This isnt a healthy relationship with one's body. I gained about 15lbs in 2 months during quarantine and while my body didn't look the way I wanted it to, I still didn't have major breakdowns over it. Occasionally I'll feel like I should be more active and such but life just went on. Stephanie is a young, healthy, beautiful woman with a body 90% of women would love to have and yet she still talks about MAJOR issues pretty frequently. Im sorry but if you find yourself feeling the way she does as frequently- you dont have a healthy relationship with your body and i think it's the time to seek some kind of professional help. I hope Steph is talking to someone and she is getting the help she needs.

In my opinion, she was also adding to that with constant emphasizing of “gaining weight” but hiding her numbers so people could assume whatever they want and call her obese etc. At my highest I was 76 but also always had a lot of muscle, so people never believed I’m more than 64-65. Mustaqeemah Oni often times its far more educational to experience then preach, both for the preacher and those watching. Just imagine if David Goggins were to have documented every step he took towards his path of enlightenment, and instead of focusing on his next move he was posting about his last while be absorbed into what people thought about a moment that had already gone. Imagine if Michael Jordan would have explained every shot he took and the difficulties he faced at every impasse instead of breaking through internally, and going on to experience. It their individual, collected experiences that are valuable. And while there are holes in between, the majority of the value is within their semi isolated experiences in life. The drive to do anything is always more rewarding if you discover more of yourself and in the face of overwhelming opinions, it’s not hard to stray from something that could truly be valuable.

Taking time away might make all this worse. Take Jenna Marbles situation rn as an example. Literally anyone of Jenna Marbles videos or any video about Jenna Marbles has hundreds of thousands of comments saying "we miss you Jenna, you need to come back" "Jenna shouldn't have left, you guys bullied her off the internet", etc. if Stephanie were to just take time away people would probably be harassing her for updates or saying that she's taking time away because she's gained too much weight, etc. taking a hiatus, even when giving a reason for taking a hiatus, usually only makes people more inclined to seek further answers or try to force the person to come back and face them. people unfortunately have a high sense of entitlement to things from people who got famous online and it's really upsetting. It's really great that we're getting the real deal raw emotions about what it's like to be going through a journey like this because even your average person is going to experience stuff like this from the people they surround themselves with.

I feel that anxiety of ‘yoyoing’. I’ve had three relapses into Anorexia, and my most recent one was the worst I have ever been. However, my whole year (schoolmates and teachers), watched me yo-yo from underweight, to slightly healthy, to extremely emaciated, to 15kg up (and my weight is now decreasing and stabilising). I do often think that people are judging me, or that my struggles appear to be very visible. I’m 17, and I’ve missed so much. I’m still getting better mentally, but I am working on not letting it interfere with my social life and general life. It comforts me greatly to witness others go through the same process, and recover from the same or similar issues, it somewhat prevents anxiety as I can see the path that others lead, and the destination or issues that result.

Just some context to her personal journey. She used to be a fitness RU-vid known for her ability to eat thousands of calories during her crazy cheat day videos, like 10000 cal plus and almost never feel full. About a year ago or so she realized she has been suffering from extreme hunger for most of her life in part because of her restricting and obsessing over her food, calories, and body wieght to be able to achieve the body composition that she wanted and complete in a bikini competition, this caused her to decide to completely stop restricting her eating regardless of if her body composition was changing. From what I saw from her videos she really struggled with gaining weight during this time because of a bit of a distorted body image plus the fact that she had never weighed as much as she weighed at her highest wieght.
