The men who are asking her for pictures need to be reported for trafficking child porn. Maybe you can contact a branch of law enforcement that tracks them down. Sadly, when children act out sexually, it's often a sign that they have been compromised in the past.

@MikeTheYungGod 5 Images of nude minors are considered child pornography if sent to a legal adult, and it is a criminal offense to be in possession of it. I don’t think you understand what the term pornography refers to and is defined as. Look up the definition, and you will see that It does not have to depict sexual acts in ANY way, there just has to be sexual organs in view (the areas covered by underwear/bathing suit). And especially when it comes to child porn, ANY image or video depicting child/minor nudity is considered child pornography in the eyes of the law when it is being distributed to an adult. That child/minor does not have to do anything sexual or insinuate anything sexual in order for it to be considered child porn in the eyes of the law.

That's a horrible situation, but I do have to disagree with Dr. John on one point. I'm an IT professional and I can tell you that any filtering/parental controls that don't involve the parent seeing everything the child is doing are 110% worthless. There is no "easy button" for keeping kids safe online, other than taking them off completely or supervising everything in person.

Yup and I continue to wonder what's so damn hard about sitting in the same room as her (whatever child) while she did her homework, then the laptop's locked away. I glance over all the time as I'm reading my book and more importantly, they know it. I could glance far less often, because they assume my eyes are always there lol. They still enjoy their privacy, because I'm too far away to read. I can just tell what site they're on. My older boys are completely porn free and one might almost say they worship me for my diligence. :))

I was bullied in middle school and high school, but for the most part I had good self worth. I encountered a predator in a chatroom when I was a teen, but I knew better. I never did this kind of crap. The mom needs to take away her access to the technology and get that kid into counseling asap. It's not a normal thing for a child to send nudes to strangers. My first boyfriend was 42 and I was 18! Crazy, right?! We lived together about a year and he wanted to marry me, but fortunately I had the wherewithal to wake up one day and realize I had a lot of growing up to do. So I left. When I went to therapy a few years later, the shrink told me that my relationship with a much older man was because I wanted/needed a father figure. I totally rejected that information. Didn't believe it at all. But years later, I was able to tell myself, that was exactly what I was doing. I wanted to feel safe and protected. I also wanted to feel loved and beautiful. It's not healthy. I'm not sure how you would teach a young girl not to degrade and dishonor herself. A therapist could talk to her about it until he is blue in the face and if she's not ready to see and hear that, she won't. Maybe she needs to talk to women who have been there and done that. Maybe then she'd listen. I wish her the best. She is definitely going down the wrong road.

Now I know why I got rejected so much in high school (17/18) lol. So many girls went out with guys 30+ older. The idea was “the older the guy, the more mature” which is definitely not always the case. Now that I’m 29 turning 30, the thought of being with a 18/19 year old turns me all the way off. Barely adults and still in that teenage annoying phase. Glad you gained the self realization though. A 18 year old with a 30+ year old bf is definitely a red flag no matter how you look at it. The odd thing is that in todays Manosphere, they always bring up how normal it is that older men seek women in the 18-21 age range which seems so predatory to me. They’re adults sure, the beauty is there sure, but me being 29 almost 30, I’m not dating anyone under 4 years my age. Wtf is there to talk about with someone 18/19. I don’t even own social media lol. That would probably be a “red flag” to most young adults lol. Ridiculous. Kudos to you though . More men need to raise they’re daughters man and we won’t have young girls going thru what the mother in this videos daughter is going thru.

@@Butterd4t4ss It's pretty messed up we live in a society that where we can freely demonize people who seek much younger partners as predators and exploiters, but can't even question same sex relationships. Studies show relationships with large age gaps tend not to last, but studies also show gays and bisexuals have twice the average suicide rate, and its definitely not due to "oppression" because this rate has remained steady for 20 years. Modern liberals bring up how homosexuality was accepted so widely in Pagan cultures, but age gaps were taboo in exactly zero cultures prior to Second Wave Feminism. As someone who likes 'em young but struggles between adhereing to sober morality and my own instincts society's hypocrisy really makes my blood boil.

The access given to kids at the schools is so harmful. I had on our restrictions at home but it was difficult to control what they did in school when they were in computer labs. The teachers don't watch them and, honestly, I don't think they care. One of our daughters found a hack to get around the school firewalls and she was talking to strangers online. We took care of that but if I were to do it all again, I would homeschool my kids. I just think kids today are being exposed to way too much and it's scary.

Then we home schooled her. Some stuff got better but some got worse! No matter what we did to help her she sure did demolish boundaries!

I’m a social worker in Arizona. I like the idea of family therapy with mom and daughter! However, at least here in Arizona, I keep encountering therapists that say clients have to go through individual therapy, first, before engaging in family therapy. The issue is when one participant (including children) say or indicate that they do not need therapy. Therapists will not continue therapy if children do not engage or refuse to. This becomes a barrier for family therapy. Don’t give up, mom.

I’m two minutes in, and I already know this girl’s father is not in her home or in her life. This girl wants attention so badly. Edit: called it. Edit again: taking away this girl’s internet and laptop might be a short term fix, but by the time she’s 17-18 and getting ready to leave the home, all bets will be off. She’s going to rebel hard and it’ll be the same thing all over again. Just because she’s technically an adult at 18, doesn’t mean she has the emotional capability to deal with these predatory men. Most young women don’t. I didn’t until I was 28. I was sheltered as hell in my mother’s home, and I graduated at 16 and went buck wild. I had no idea how to navigate life while looking out for bad, manipulative, predatory people. I didn’t even understand that people like that existed. It was too sinister to comprehend. I learned the hard way, and I had to sacrifice my mental and emotional health for that lesson. I don’t want that to happen to any more girls.

Children, especially girls, who grow up without their fathers in the home (or even if he’s in the home, but he’s just emotionally distant and cold) need to be warned of these things in explicit detail. Ultimately, she needs a strong male figure in her life that can show her that not all men are the kind to seek gratification from exploiting young women/kids physically (digitally or not). If her dad is not in the picture due to prison, put another strong male figure in front of her (friend's dad, school coach, principal, anyone) someone that literally is the embodiment of a man (provider, role model, father). I would reach out to your school like DR John said to find someone that will willingly, through the goodness of their heart, help to be that figure. No matter what the mom does, she will rebel. The mother is taking away a source of freedom from the girl and more importantly a source of validity that is filling the void for something. Taking the internet away is only a band-aid. In two years, if the wound doesn't heal, she'll be free to continue her habits somewhere else. And then she won't have a mom she trusts or a dad in the picture. First figure out the why. Why is she doing this? (does she genuinely not know any better? Is it fun? Does she feel good about it? Does it make her feel good physically?) The tackle the how. If you go to the school accusing them of their laptops being the issue, someone is going to say "well control what your kid does on the machine". Which will only make you more frustrated as a parent. Lead with empathy. She needs comfort before discipline. tough question to answer John, well done as always. God bless.

I agree with taking away the internet and going to counseling together. We aren't sheltering her because we're going to explain what's going on and give her tools to deal with this. We're not chastsing her either. She's got two years to protect her. That's two years that will never come back. Will she rebel at 18? Maybe. But two years is a long time in the world of a developing child. I was this girl. If I'd had a mom who did this, maybe I wouldn't have made some of the decisions I made that really messed me up.

As I listen, this mother is asking what her daughter needs. Why not ask your daughter these questions? Kids open up when they want to. But it’s important to keep the line of communication open with your kids. I told my mom everything bc I trust her and knows she loves me. It was me and my mom against the world (not me against my mom). She’s a tough love person and not easy to talk to but she always told me that I could tell her anything. And I did.

Thank you john. Parents get your kids the hell off the internet unsupervised. They should have extremely minimal access to the internet and no child needs to be on social media apps of any kind. I don't care how many of their friends have it and I don't care how mad they are at you for not letting them have it. Your job is to be a parent not a friend. And don't allow schools to tell you what you're going to give your child access to. If you decided not to give your kids internet access in the school wants to give them a device with the internet you say no. Be the strong parent she needs. Also nothing against this mom because I'm sure she is doing everything she possibly can but we have a fatherhood crisis in this country. An absent parent of any kind of devastated child but especially the absence of a father is a huge issue in this country and world.

It’s really sad what’s going on. They are gonna take all the electronics from her and she will probably loose all her friends and won’t be able to make any new ones. She’ll be bullied for not being able to have tech and she won’t be able to connect with her peers. It’s her fault and it’s the only choice but Poor girl is going to have such a rough life going forward. She’s gonna be so alone and probably suffer with depression. Even when tech is gone she’s gonna start doing it in real life, she’ll probably sleep with a lot of people just to get that feeling.

I agree except it’s not the child’s fault. It’s the mother’s fault. She has poor judgment (made kids with a jailbird) and is a bad parent. Instead of actually supervising her child online, she just blocks her access to everything. She’s a lazy parent and her child is suffering as a result of her being a bad mother. Nowadays it’s unpopular to tell the truth about single mothers. The fact of the matter is MOST of them are bad mothers whose children suffer because of their bad decisions and laziness. This is just another example. But instead people aren’t insisting that this grown woman be accountable, instead we are blaming her poor, helpless child who never had a chance with a mother like this one.

At 14, it's too late. I witnessed this with my step-sister. They gotta get tougher. Either follow the house rules, or leave. About 20 years ago. By 17, she had turned her bedroom into a brothel. She chose to leave rather than follow house rules. She ended up living over a bar and serving drinks for a living. Most likely, this young lady started this many years ago, maybe at 8 or 9. Daughter is 16 now, very little a parent can do at this point. She can try, but at 16, daughter will sneak out.

I don't necessarily agree with getting rid of the Internet in your home. Instead of getting rid of it, learn how to properly use the Parental Control features available to you. That's what they're there for. You can block sites you don't want them going to, or allow only the sites you specify. You can restrict what days and what hours they have access to the Internet. Take some time to learn the features available to you so you can control your child's access and get Parental Control apps that let you monitor everything they do online.

I get it, I’m 14 and I think this is an epidemic and would never do that, and I’m not making excuses for them, but some kids don’t get enough attention at home. So they go to strangers for validation. It’s usually the older kids or the middles. They are essentially deprived of attention, validation, and a person to feel like they can trust and depend on. Not all kids are going to do this, and not all kids aren’t going to do that.

Utah schools spend less per child but we get pretty good test scores and stuff. But maybe that’s just because I live here. I got the highest score of anyone I know on the ACT. I just wanted to beat my brother, but man, did that pay off!

First of all, why are you taking this story and making it about gender identity? Secondly, The point of puberty blockers is to give the person time to mature and decide if it's what they truly want. It is fully reversible and they can still undergo puberty once they stop taking them and have children later in life. Why are you so concerned with childrens' healthcare? Kind of creepy.

A lot of people seem to be saying it happens when the father isn't around or they have a bad relationship, but in my mind it seems like it would and does happen anyway if they have access to internet, extended free time and maybe particularly if they go to girls only schools, don't interact with boys in clubs or other activities. Am I wrong? Especially during puberty when this type of development happens. Also comparing yourself to friends doing the same would do it. Or having no friends. If you are lacking peer connection going through puberty, do not interact with opposite sex in your normal life and are unoccupied with unlimited internet access, they will use the internet to find these things. Perhaps it is the element of having a male reliable presence that would curtail this, but any involved strict parent who has fostered respect could create this environment, no? I have always said if I have children they would have a basic no internet phone for emergencies and use a shared/monitored computer in a common room only. As John lists the alternative possibilities then being strict on those things might not seem too hard or impossible even if their strength or talent is IT based

She’s going to seek male attention regardless unless mom helps with that validation/attention bc I think that’s what most girls are wired to do biologically. And bc dad isn’t there to show her how men are supposed to treat her she might not know she’s being manipulated or abused until it’s too late. Predators seem to be getting better and better at finding kids like this who need validation. I think if she takes tech away the daughter is always going to find a way. This girl needs martial arts and self-defense classes! For one - it will build up her self esteem and the way she looks at herself [both emotional and physical]. For two - until she smartens up and gets a bit of maturity, she needs to be able to defend herself, because at the rate she is going - she will need this sooner or later. And if she gets lucky enough not to need it - it's an accomplishment that stays for you for ever! And good luck with trying to restrict her online activities!
