My Truck Got 4ft Longer In 1 Week!!!

3 guys. 6 days. Over 150 man hours. And my truck got UPGRADED with an '06 International cutoff rear clip and an additional 50" more wheelbase. Why? Because or ride quality and cool factor. The original 8 bag suspension was nothing to write home about; plus this old work truck was in dire need of some help. It rides like dream now!
In this video I've documented all the steps we went through to make it happen. Is this the only way to a stretch & cutoff? Certainly not, there's more than 1 way to skin a cat; but it's how we do it and it works great. Comment below if you've got experience doing cutoffs and stretches. Hey, looks good. The only thing id have done different would have been to use c channel for the insert. But, ya kinda cant with different frame heights. Anyway it works and thats all that matters. Good luck with the kenneynational interworth. 😁

Beautiful job man. Wheelbase looks proper. Not too long and not too short. That frame was in great shape for a donor.

Straight cuts are ok if welded with the proper procedures and a frame section over or inside as long as possible to stiffen that frame that job would not pass in most places welding has to have full penetration and peened and I would have never used wire feed unless it's a flux core wire that has been tested on this type of frame material. Stick welding is a proven method must be back gouged usually I weld the inside first so I can grind out any slag and crap lot easier to work on the outside of the frame then fill and cap it just like I would do a pipe weld except I would air peen the welds to stress relieve it. I

Bridges are joined at straight cuts. They used an industry standard procedure. It’ll be fine.

For lifting the sleeper you could just use a spreader bar - then you just pick straight up from the bottom of the sleeper and the spreader bar takes the crush at the top... and you can use the spreader bar for picking anything else that is about as wide as your truck

Personally I'd do a straight cut with a Sawzall.. slap some jb weld on the straight cut joined ends and call it a day.

Good job for a crew of younger guys, but don’t ever shy away from constructive criticism from the right people, not that you tube is the place for it, so I won’t go there? But as a semi retired welder fabricator I can say I’ve learned a lot, some from engineers but mostly from old welders with gray hair, when I was young I use to joke about it, if you didn’t have gray hair I wouldn’t listen to you Lol but all joking a side not all old guys know it all but if you know how to pick and choose what you hear you will be ahead of the game, there’s nothing like experience.

I'm a company driver of a local construction outfit, I drive end dump & lowboy. The end dump tractor was on its last leg so they got rid of it & got a newer tractor with a strong 2& half foot more wheelbase , that made a difference in the ride .

Welders do not make ( Z ) cuts or 45 degree cuts in structural steel buildings . If welding an inside liner plate to the channel of the frame rail , only horizontal welds . Use flange bolts and flange nuts . Good Job !

Well for what its worth and thats not much, theres a fella in Australia I know that does chassis stretches every day of the week and plenty of weekend warriors have plenty of opinions They way the do every single one of theirs is a straight cut like yours, this is done because it gives least amount of heat in the rails when welding back up, this means less chance of weakening Every stretch is engineered and fully approved The only thing that would be frowned upon and it is very very minor is in Australia we need to cut blocks of wood that fit snuggly in between the flanges of the rails at the U bolts so flanges cant be squashed when doing up the U bolts Great video channel, love your stuff

Looks nice. The cut was done the same way I've done mine. Running over the road with no issues at all. Thought the frame and suspension was Freightliner. Looks like an Airliner to me. But i might be wrong. Great video!

International used hendrickson suspension on that style. But it does look almost identical to airliner except airliner Frame mount brackets are solid and made of cast aluminum

As long as you double plate the frame at the desired splice with a 3 foot and a 2 foot and your done !

Angle cut frame , angle cut is approx 15" long straight cut is 10" long way more strength in angle cut.then add 3' sleeve with ends angle cut .

People talk about if the weld isn't worth a shit...would any way of doing not be shitty if the welds were shit? If a welder has to prove their weld is stronger than the surrounding metal and isn't the weak point to be certified...Why would it matter about the angle and such? If it's reinforced and works..it works..Show me the physics and I'll agree after press testing the theory..because that's what it is until proven or disproven..

I agree with the scarf cut approach, that’s how I do it, and I also stagger the splice when I can, and the scarf doesn’t necessarily have to be 45°, 30° is plenty, Bolting the fish plate is a good idea if you plan on messing with the frame again , my 2 cents

I had a71 w9 replaced rear clip with international four spring Corp suspension off a transfer it matched up newer trucks are metric thus your different size 13mm nice job though and fast turnaround good luck

Add a second pulley to your “A” frame. Or in a pinch you can use a ratchet chain binder on one side to lift the sleeper. Great job. Cheers 🍻

Only thing in my concern is metallurgy when you cut a frame in the middle it definitely if you don't get the wells penetrated correctly can lead for failure careful

I helped my buddy strech the frame on a freightliner he was hauling a frameless end dump like you have andstarted pulling a tri-axle 39 ft east trl with 96 in deep. We took a double frame cut off we slid the inner frame up to the back of the sleeper then angle cut the back to weld up the rest of the double frame. Went from air ride 40,000 to short spring Hendrickson 52,000 lbs

I stretched my 89 Peterbilt 379 out to 270 also. I mated it to a 2014 Peterbilt 589 frame. My Tractor frame was larger as well.
