I never thought about what a yoke is......the long beam attached across 2 animals to pull. How much of a difference this teaching makes, when you truly understand the meanings of every word. It's not about eggs.......duh (I feel so foolish but i was ignorant and its ok to be ignorant, cause now I know. If I choose to not accept the truth, then I willfully become foolish, and that's not good) So technically, if you say that you do take up your cross and you are finding it hard, then you are actually trying to do it all by yourself, that's why it's so hard. You are omitting the help of Christ, by not applying what He is teaching you. WOW, this makes so much sense to me now (yoke not yolk) Learn from Jesus, and apply that learning everyday, so it won't be so hard and that He will remain with you, and help you, so as long as you follow Him. Wow, I feel like I learned something that needs to shouted from the tops of mountains Thank you Pitre Peace be with you

If I am Yoked to the Holy Spirit, I would imagine that The Holy Spirit will know the Correct and Easiest Way Home. If I Allow The Holy Spirit to guide me Home 🙏 Viva Cristo Rey

That comment about yoke made me laugh. I started going back to church about 4 years ago and a lot of knowledge and scripture I listened in English and that's my second language( I'm Polish) and I always understood yoke is part of an egg. ohh dear sweet Jesus. I have anger management problem and this video help me a lot. Today during confession prist told me to count my blessings and this one surely is. Thank you

Hopefully Christ can accept me and if he does i just want to hug him for an hour and then ask him if he can give me the super power to fly and a nice vacation by the beach where i'll be at peace with my entire family like at an island. Thank you Dr Pitre. Also in Isaiah 58 vs6 it refers to releasing those bound unjustly, untying the thongs of the yoke; Setting free the oppressed, breaking off every yoke- the whole chapter talks about fasting and correct choices (judgment) leading to authentic blessing.

Matthew 11:28-29. “Come to me, all you who are weary and burdened, and I will give you rest. 29 Take my yoke upon you and learn from me, for I am gentle and humble in heart, and you will find rest for your souls. ( Saint Augustine ): God never takes away a yoke, a heavy burden, except to give you something in return (his yoke, a light burden), But the difference is enormous, my burden crushes me, his lifts up, mine buries me, his brings me in the sky. He takes away greed and gives you charity, takes away your fear and gives you the fruit of courage, takes away your confusion and gives you faith, takes away your sin and gives you justice and mercy, takes away your death and gives you life. He takes away your darkness and gives you his light, takes away your slavery and gives you freedom, takes away your arrogance and gives you humility, takes away the burden of anger and gives you peace, takes away hatred and gives you forgiveness, takes away your malice and gives you his purity, takes away the curse and gives you his blessing, takes away your poverty and gives you his wealth and richness, takes away your despair and gives you hope, he takes away the disease and give you health, takes away the filth and give you sanctity, takes away the burden of schism, heresies, dissensions and give you the burden of unity. Do you mind this exchange? As St. Augustine said, the things I was afraid of losing, how happy I am now to have lost them .... And why is the burden of Christ light? Because everything is easy for those who love....

Thank you, Dr Pitre, for this inspiring treatise on this subject so close to my heart. Our Lord was the One foretold in Sirach. All of the Old Testament speaks of and looks toward Our Lord Who is coming into the world. He is Wisdom itself. To learn from Him Who is meek and humble of heart will bring us the rest we need when life seems too difficult. He walks with us.It is true that Jesus' yoke is the only yoke in life that is light . Without Jesus all burdens are too heavy to carry.

The Lord Jesus taught us that we should carry the burden of this yoke with Him so that we can have rest. Because just as the Jewish people received God's help, so now we too can get His help, provided we want to come to Him, and want to follow all His commands. With faithfulness we follow the law and command of Christ, and ask for His mercy, we will get help and relief, so that whatever we face will be lighter.

According to the Didache, righteousness is the yolk and beatitudes is our cross. This is training for a royal priesthood.

My burden is light

Hi Dr Pitre, could you kindly explain the reference to “cross” as in “pick up your cross and follow me” when the crucifixion was a later occurrence. It feels like the passage was post crucifixion influence, if you understand where I’m coming from.

Please would you mind doing a video about love and breaking down all the bad things that are happening right now a statue of Jesus was torn down three statues of Mary have been defiled other Christians don’t really understand what’s going on maybe they don’t study maybe they’re like me and they were weak but I have been spending a lot of time since the virus reconnecting with my faith not even knowing that it was an option because of the mistakes I’ve made please talk to the bishops talk to the priests start prayer groups watch religious stuff online you could watch EWTN you can watch a bunch of things and you will learn exactly what all the verses meant you will gain understanding please stand up for your faith by at least praying and talking to other people of faith even if I didn’t believeIn anything realized that rights are being taken away and the right to worship our Lord must remain

Yeshua (that's what his mother called him) of Natsareth, a Jewish man of the tribe of Yehudah of the line of King David, who Shimon(Peter, a jew himself), said, is The Messiah, was sent by Heavenly Father to the house of Yisrael, to bring the Good News..... When Yeshua spoke to the jewish people about the ' yoke' n 'burden'. The jewish people understood clearly what he was taking about, (n it was not about the cross). Mat.23:4 For they bind heavy burdens and grievous to be borne....... this 'heavy burdens' were the pharisees laws n tradition, (if u did a little bit of research on these laws, which is called Talmud in our time, u will find, it is indeed heavy n grievous, even today alot of jewish people are not able to bear it). 'His Yoke' on the other hand is Heavenly Father's Commandments/Instructions, which u find in Leviticus n Deuteronomy,( not just for the jews) which He kept perfectly. John 15:10 If you keep my Commandments, you shall abide in my love; even as I have kept my Father's Commandments and abide in His love. This is the 'Yoke' He ask us to share with Him. Mat.11:30 For *MY* yoke is easy and *MY* burden is light.🙏

Not bad, but probably not quite on the mark. First, consider the broad context here. Jesus is looking to establish a whole new system, a new theocratic kingdom under a new king, who is, of course, himself. This is over and against the Mosaic/written Torah system that the Pharisees have added even further to with their supposed oral law traditions. You've got a whole temple sacrifice/feast edifice with, in one way of looking at it, the Torah's 613 commandments plus all these additional, sometimes really picky, instructions from the traditions. It's a heavy yoke that's pretty hard to deal with on a daily basis. Jesus told them to do the Moses stuff, but in his view it had gotten out of hand, and they've gotten to the point that the burden has eclipsed what really matters to God: justice, mercy, faithfulness, and the love of God. Being yoked to Jesus, following his way, would be a different program. It would largely simplify things from that current system (which would definitively end with a bang in AD 70). It would be rigorous, but in a way that leads to deep soul satisfaction, especially with the help of the Holy Spirit. His own attributes of gentleness and humility would in a sense be chief cornerstones of this new constitution, as reflected in his Sermon on the Mount. Bottom line is the parable is another of the many that admonishes the Jews for their mistaken agendas, their willing or unwitting misunderstandings of God's desires, and speaks to a coming new covenant and New Age within that generation.
