Love how Michael’s playing always serves the song. He’s capable of soaring chopfest playing, but rarely indulges it. He’s always within himself and the song, and always tasteful... Role model...

Hell yeah, dude. That's how I play bass. My first instrument was bass, at 11. 29 now. Been playing religiously the whole time. About 8 years ago I picked up guitar and have put in a lot of time on 6 strings, as well. So, my playing on both is super bass informed, meaning that when I play guitar I do not aim to play fast or shred or anything, I just super enjoy playing funky, syncopated lines and shit. I fucking love playing in the pocket The feeling of playing bass, with a dank drummer, just sitting back in the pocket and just holding down that fuckin stank funk...nothing like it. Every now and then, I'll get a little fresh and play around w some diddles and doo-dads, but always...ALWAYS come back and spank the fuck outta the 1.

I was there and the sound was god-awful. Not anyone's fault, it's just so loud in the convention center. The playing is obviously super dope. Just rest assured: it's better to watch like this than see in person at the convention.

Talk about getting drawn in! My left foot was tapping out what would've been the hi-hat and my right was filling in for the kick. That was all well and good until it finished and I tried to get up and walk to the kitchen... when I found I could only walk in tight right-hand circles!
