They do believe their own lies. And that's why it's impossible to get them to change anything. They easily convince themselves you are the one abusing them. It's insane.
@RSCa3218
@RSCa3218 21 день назад
Yeah, you never really get to talk with them. It's entirely projection with no way to update their snapshot of you. Projection and delusions all the way down.
@pickingupthepiecesofme
@pickingupthepiecesofme 21 день назад
@@RSCa3218 yup. And you're good if you are quiet and still, so you fit their projection, or you're camouflaged by the stillness. Move and they see you dont fit the projection (you have an opinion, how dare you!) and bang, rage, eventually discard. So dispensable. Really does a number on your very existence. But these videos are helping to untangle some of the crazy. This is hard!

at the age of waking up , the child learns quickly that they are a burden by watching the mood and vibe change so rapidly when some one else enters and leaves the room . ,2 different people and so the cognitive dissonance begins. Also having to learn how to act . The infant is already carrying a responsibility and realising the art of having to manipulate their parents mood and definitely plenty of moments for hate to be present in the child's annoyance

This is simple and the best explanation out there!!!!! My „gut feeling“ was from day1 right but i didn‘t listen the first time in my Life… and oh boy i payed a heavy Price for that… it is really simple like that but i didnt know there is something like narcissist out there in the world. Lesson learnd the hard way (4years)

As a self-diagnosed narcissist, I finally worked out the pattern of my behaviour. From my new perspective, I can see each moment of choice of behaviour made perfect sense at the time, because I believed what my thoughts were telling me must be the truth. Hold no opinions that I cannot justify became my mantra, and I have curbed a great deal of my excessiveness. Empathy is still not natural to me, but I'm learning. Truly not caring what people thought about me was the single most freeing decision. Occasional actions that invite humiliation do help. Testing limits. There is no help for narcissism from outside, it must come from within. Recognise that you are not your behaviour, and then see that you can control your behaviour. It's worth the effort. I feel human, I now know Love x

It is whatever is needed of them in the moment. There is no value above themselves that would encourage them to sacrifice their immediate comfort for some greater good; for the relationship, for example.

Everything you said makes absolute sense, coming from my own experience with many narcissists in my family. And I fully agree that they actually believe in their own lies, which is arguably the most upsetting trait of these people - you cannot convince them of their own nonsense. However, isn't saying "I served in the special forces" while knowing you obviously did not actually classify more as Machiavellianism? That the narcissist believes in his own make-belief stories is apparent. But that he himself believes in such made up stories sounds more psychopathic to me?

if a narcissist believes what he says is true, then when he is confronted about his lie, he truly doesn't think he was lying? Does his brain convert the lie into his truth? What about in the case of obtaining secret/alternate supply.

How does this make any sense when generally, a common person believes all kinds of things that aren't true and will still argue for them or even get violent over them? I mean, how can this behavior be applied specifically to a narcissists when it is general behavior? Is it only because it involves emotional relationships?

im pretty sure my ex-husband is a covert narc. however, he treated his mother and others well and behind closed doors often treated me differently while being so kind at other times. he has often had conflicts with others and i could see times when he also treated others similar to me. he didn't rush into marriage with me. in fact, he love bombed me for about a week and then backed off some. 3 months into relationship, the mask started slipping here and there with little comments. in fact, the first time i ever heard of narcissism and sam vaknin was a few months into relationship in 1999 when i was looking online for info to describe his behavior. we got married after 9 months in relationship. we moved in together 4 months after start of relationship. is this still narcissism?

Dr. Sam I hope my question doesn't sound stupid or repetitive but I was wondering does the Narcissist get better at decieving people with time? Do they update their manipulative techniques like adopting certain sentences or manners of speaking, jokes, way of dressing, facial expresions..etc. which they might acquire from previous victims? If so doesn't that challenge the Narcissist image of grandiosity when they import others style or words? Thank you so much in advance Doctor. Bless you.
