Welcome to Freedom Hall in Louisville I'm Gary Bender along with Billy Packer and what a Dandy we have today. The #6 Memphis State Tigers vs the #5 Louisville Cardinals
Early 1980's on CBS, during the weekend afternoons in February and March with the late Don Robertson announcing the participants for each game and the venues for each game- memorable times!!!
Do not forget about the late Frank Fallon introducing the starting line ups for the national semi final and Finals of the men's NCAA BASKETBALL CHAMPIONSHIP.
The great coaches of this time that immediately come to mind Dean smith John Thompson Jim Valvano Jerry Tarkamian Denny Crum Terry Holland Joe B Hall Guy Lewis Lou Carnessca Rollie Massamino Dale Brown Larry Brown Jim Boeheim Dana Kirk Eddie Sutton Hugh Durham John Chaney Ray Meyer Wimp Sanderson Digger Phelps Bobby Knight Lou Henson
That theme, NBA on CBS’s, and NFL on CBS’s were composed by Allyson Bellink; she also did ABC Sports (signature, Monday Night Football, Indianapolis 500) around that same period.
Thank you for that information. I have always wondered who composed these. Those years and those events would not have been the same without those songs.
Nice, she mastered the Fan Fare in a theme to get you pumped about watching sports as a kid. (Or at least for me). This theme, the NBA on CBS during the 1980s and the NFL on CBS 81-86 were straight classics.
@@ericm242910 hated that my Hoyas lost, but that was the golden era of college basketball. We finally got redemption 2 years later vs Houston and Phi Slamma Jamma. John Thompson hugging Fred Brown is still played on every college intro to this day.
@@ericm242910 don't know if you've ever watched Dean Smith's documentary on Showtime, but if you ever watch it, M.J. described in detail what Coach Smith told him prior to making that shot. Told him basically to "... have fun and just let it happen, and when you get the ball, knock it down just as in practice." The birth of a legend was born, on a team where he wasn't the best player that season. It was James Worthy, followed by Jimmy Black, and Sam Perkins. Damn dude, sorry for going back down memory lane.
I will be 30 in May, but I love this theme! CBS had some of the greatest themes in the 80s - this one, the NFL one used from 1981-86 and the “Pots and Pans” theme, the College Football one from 1984-86 (First used in Super Bowl XVIII) and the NBA on CBS theme. Thankfully, I trade vintage sports games on DVD, so I can hear these themes.
@@WaltGekko My Favorite themes from CBS Sports are the NBA on CBS theme 1983-89 and 1981-86 NFL theme plus the college football theme (First used in Super Bowl XXI)
As was the 1984 College Football theme music, and the NCAA Today studio show theme music that started in 1982, and was used on the first two seasons of The Prudential College Football Report with Jim Nantz (1985 and '86).
I think Michael Jordan’s shot in New Orleans NC State shocking Houston Hoya Paranoia in 1984 Villanova’s shocking upset Never Nervous Pervis and Louisville The golden age of college basketball
That play will live on forever and the call by Gary Bender and Billy Packer will also live on forever. The 1983 Cardiac Pack from NC State were hot at the right time and provided us fans some memorable games from the ACC tournament all the way to the National Championship
