New Angstadt Arms MDP-9 Gen 2 First Shots: Redemption?

I got the new Scorpion for under $800 last year, and when I compare it to these car priced guns I feel I made the right choice.

Chris man, you're killing us with all the high priced 9mm PCC. What was it, like $3200 for that one you said was the best the other day. And now this for $2500? Most of us are scraping by to buy a $400 gun. So I'm much more interested in comparisons between the Ruger PC Charger, CZ Scorpion, Stribog, etc, that are under $1,000.

Fired a friend's Extar recently and was impressed. But, I am doing research on other models because I was a bit concerned about a full polymer body. This looks linteresting, but for the price I can literally put an Extar in every room of my house.

Good way to get better products by honest reviews and competition. As always great review and honest testing.

You forgot an honorable mention to the Grand Power Stribog SP9A3G which is also roller delayed and takes glock mags. Oh, and it can be had for $1000 or less. Have almost 6000 rounds through mine and it's been 100% reliable.

Being a huge fan of the EP9, I’m always curious about other PCC’s/PDW’s. It’s always amazing how the price can be so freakin high. Nice review. Always watch your vids. Keep it up.

I was about to pull the trigger on buying one and decided to look at some reviews and yours was the first I saw. I haven't thought about it since. If it truly is good to go now, ill get one. I look forward to a future video on it from you.

For what it's worth I have been hearing of some issues with Blaser brass cased recently. One of the issues was the bullet moving within the casing. That could be what you experienced.

Wasn't too thrilled about the gun honestly even before it came out, but hearing that size, weight and form factor makes me want one now. Smaller, lighter, and less recoil is always a win in my book.

Chris, would you ever consider looking into the 10mm PCC from Stribog?

I'm glad to see they fixed this up. that Gen-1 had me questioning every 2k+ purchase. Also, that failure happened to me with other firearms when the bolt travels faster than the mag can supply the next round. It catches just the top of the round and smashes it into the bottom of the feed ramp; might be what happened here too.

That round that was smashed is the result of the bcg cycling and mashing the round into the chamber at too much of an angle while trying to load it into the barrel. I had a PCC that that I bought do that about every other round. I tried all kinds of buffers and springs with no fix. I ended up ordering a new barrel that had a built in feed ramp like a handgun and never had that issue again. But it was an expensive solution.

9mm PCC gotta be the best home defense and truck gun option out there. So versatile

Would love to see some reviews of the Recover tactical stuff for Glock or some of the other brands that are in the same realm of add ins to a pistol to make it a "pcc" or AR style pistol

B&T makes all sorts of compact variants of the APC, SPC and GHM . I’d go with one of those .

I’d go with the Matador Mat-9 upper on a 9mm lower before I’d spend the money on an Angstadt product. The Mat-9 fits and works with lowers that use Glock, MP5, or Colt magazines. $500 for the complete upper. It has run flawlessly. It looks very similar to this Angstadt. Matador Arms also makes the BRN-9 for Brownell’s.

I wonder how they’re going to compensate people who got screwed on their Gen 1? This is why I went with the B&T APC9 that also takes Glock mags.

I've never been a huge fan of the MP5... Mostly because of the price. I'm not a hater but just I've never been sure the juice is worth the squeeze. You may just change my mind. Thanks for the vids man!

I like it, i just wish they would test their guns first before sending them out. Wouldn't have to deal with the bad reviews and pushing out a 2nd gen so soon. They pulling a Sig with "lets make it and let our buyers figure out whats wrong with it".

I am starting to think that every one of these PCC reviews you do just ends up as an argument to get the Extar EP9! Especially the Gen 2 model. A quality firearm (I believe you may be surprised by the quality of their polymer components and longevity) at just an incredible price point. Full disclosure, I just picked mine up a week ago so... I may be a tad biased! Thanks for another great review and for being open enough to give a company a second chance! I'm in the Fla and we just had a bunch of Iowa thunderstorms come stormin' through the Treasure Coast area!

Extar still rocks for less than $500…it’s kinda hard to stomach a competitive PCC for 4 times the price…even the MP-5 clones rock for 2/3 that price..

A Zenith ZF-5P Pistol costs $1,500. Just needs a Choate folding stock ($200) as used on the MP5K-PDW.

I really want to talk up angstadt, these guys are in Charlotte and test at the same range I go to. Their guns are easy to shoot, but my banshee was significantly cheaper and it was stupid reliable. I’ve been able to shoot all the angstadt models and they just aren’t worth the cost.

Can you do a video, like a good, better, best for a concealed carry/nightstand fully outfitted with RD, Light, holster, and mag pouch as needed. So if I was to go buy a gun and all accessories, what would I need to be ready to go get training.

Let's think: Maybe something with a footprint of UZI (magazine inside the grip, like S&W FPC) with roller-delayed system that's using glock mags (or CZ P-10 mags), pistol controls (mag and bolt hold/release levers), non-reciprocating charging handle and spring loaded collapsible stock (brace) could be even smaller and more versatile. Similar to Roni, but rather a complete dedicated firearm instead.

Ive seen setback issues like that with Sig V crowns alot.. especially in 45 ACP

I feel like the are pricing themselves out of the market. You can't have a bad rep from the gen 1, and then count on people to take a chance and drop big money on your second attempt.

How would you compare this with the CMMG Banshee? You have been reviewing a lot of PCC lately and it is adding temptation to an already long list of guns I want.

Interested in hearing more as your round count increases. My experience trying to purchase has been less than stellar - Angstadt won't provide dealer info on gen 2s and takes 3 days to respond. Could be a good option if they are obtainable and not shitty quality. The gen 1s I've held weren't great.

Can you do a B&T ghm9 or a APC? I have a B&T setup and I love it. IMO i think it is the best next to the mp5 in terms of real 9mm PDWs. They have a buffer recoil system that really helps mitigate recoil while still being much different then a delayed blowback system. I think its worth the review given they have a lot of service use like the mp5 did. Just curious to what you would think vs the roller delayed systems.

Seems extremely impressive. My money would rather go towards a STRIBOG or even H&K UMP, even though the UMP is in the more obscure .45ACP 😉.

(One thing about these PCC reviews is I'd really appreciate it if you would start off with the price category a thing is in. They really seem to be all over the place that way and, well, I'll watch it in a different spirit depending on if it's in the 'Possible thing to pick up' vs 'Cool things that are out there' category. (Personally I'm somewhat interested in pistol caliber carbines, emphasis on the carbine, rather than so much 'Semiauto version of a submachine pistol' (As much as I do like MP5s and stuff.) Really, present requirements could be filled by an old M1 carbine if they were still cheap, but as it is I could go a bit more modern. :) ) (Though as an afterthought, since you're always on about things taking Glock mags, do any CZ products or anything else take like CZ75 mags? Online I seem to be both a 'fudd' and a 'hipster' but you've helped let me know that can be my platform to be getting on with. :) )

At shot show this year I talked to the owner about the dismal reliability of the original that both you and I had. They said that they fixed your gen one. Is that true?

Just for shits and giggles, you should do a poor man's SHTF set up. PCC, shotgun, handgun and rifle. Given the environment we're in today. Keep up the good work. Long time fan.

Based on your experience, how does the roller delay system in this new MDP-9 Gen 2 compare to the roller delay system in the older CMMG Banshee? which has softer felt recoil? which has a better shooting experience overall?

$2,500. While this one is better than the gen 1 by far, for just a little more you can get an MP5 that you know will work every time.

The price on this is absolutely insane. That is nearly mp5 money and the bca version is only 500$ and probably runs better.

I think I would spend that amount of cash on a IWI AR-15, Sig P365x w/Red Dot and a nice duty 9mm pistol like A Walther instead. Nice to look at but too expensive

The Bullet Set-Back ammo malfunction, could be a result of too light of a crimp at the factory.
