I have a pair of James spike tongs. I think you'll find they work way better than the other style. There a great set of tongs and he really goes all out to give them a nice finish as well. You scored today John.

The hold down is an inserta clamp for build pro welding tables with a new end piece, it should fit your hardy hole too. The pin keeps it from falling through and the groove grabs the anvil face so it doesn't slide up under pressure. I made one for you and one for me and I'm done. I don't have time to sell them or make more. The hardy adapter was a prototype idea, if it helps with production I'll still call that a win. I didn't have an 11/16" dia holdfast to try it. Merry Christmas to all.

I am no longer physically able to work in the smithy. My Baron Dupetrenes has spread into my left shoulder causing what the surgeon calls lock shoulder. I had three surgeries on my palms to remove the lumps from my tendons but they just kept growing back. Most likely because everything I do requires the use of my hands. I got sidelined by a diabetic ulcer on my left foot the beginning of fall and luckily they didn’t have to take my foot. I spent about 6 weeks laced up while it healed but even now walking is painful in that spot. I still watch all your videos and have them saved in a folder so my son can watch them. He has two friends who are interested in working with him when they all graduate next year. He is planning on going to a trade school here for welding and it’s close enough that he can work weekends in the smithy. There are no smiths within 100 miles of us and lots of farmers are always looking for welders to fix broken equipment without having to take it somewhere. He is working on building a truck to carry all his equipment on. Generator stick wire feed and his gas set up. Like me he likes old trucks and is working one off with a family friend who owns a auto repair shop. He is pretty much set up to take over the farm when I am gone so I am happy about that. I want to thank you for all the videos you do. He has learned way more by watching them and going out to do projects without me than I ever could have taught him. I think it’s something genetic in our family. We are stubborn and want to do it on our own. I was the same with my father and he his. Again thanks for the great videos. Kagitaka

Columbia is just a short drive up the hill for me. Been there and watched Parrott's Blacksmith Shop a few times. A few years ago, my 10 year old saw some double headed nails turned into little knives up there and decided that he wanted to do that. He hasn't stopped since! Any time I go to forge, he is right there with me! Thank you for all your information in all your videos, they have helped immensely!

The square adapter looms like it can be an adapter for the clamp if the round part is turned down more.
@kenbutcher5158

My guess would be that you have to drill out the hardy tool to the diameter of the turned down part. That way you can use the hold fast in the hardy hole

I use an old 12" Jorgensen 'F' clamp. If you remove the rivet from the end of the bar you can remove the sliding clamp. I insert the head from the bottom of either anvil or work bench. the result is an adjustable hold down that is easily removed. Note. If you buy a new clamp be sure to remove the plastic cover before using it at the anvil.

I sent you a video a couple of years ago showing you how to take a pair of the c clamp style vise grips and cut off the top fixed side turn it over and weld on a cold roll that fits your Pritchett hole on the jaw that moves and that’s even faster than that or if you get the self adjusting vise grips, and the hardy hole attachment is probably if you want to weld the f-clamp to it so you can use the hardy instead of the Pritchett hole

I've always found square profile hold downs bite the pritchel better and tend not to twist. Must be the four points of contact over the two a round one offers its hole.
@benjaminzedrine

Something about the nature of square pegs in round holes comes to mind. I know the intended meaning of the phrase has changed dramatically over time. But early in the piece I imagine it was understood.
