A couple of interesting points that happened at the end of the video. When the colour was carried off at the end, the gate to St. James's Palace was locked, one of the troops had to march back out to the policeman and asked him to go and unlock the gate, also the guardsman who carried the colours cover and played the bugle disappeared for what seemed like an age, causing the DrumSergeant to go look for him so the band could leave to head back to Wellington barracks.

@@MrBaton74 I noticed a Lot of Toing & Froing. As I thought this maybe DS Siwale's 1st London Guard Change & perhaps he was unsure. He did a Grand Job.

Thanks for another excellent video Mr B, and well done on managing to squeeze one in in a gap in the seemingly incessant rainy weather!

Good Morning Drum Sergeant Chusa Sewali of The Welsh Guards, Yes, that's a Welsh Plume on his Bearskin, just tightly Bound. It caught me out but thankyou to DM Sam Potts for Clarifying it. Great Job DS Sewali, I don't think it'll be long before you have your Baldric & the extra Stripe. Top o' The Morning to the Band of the Irish Guards. Looks like a Nice Brisk but Dry Sunday Morning. Waves to Sgt David Lockwood, Brilliant Bass Trombone as Always! Actually, the whole Trombone Section & the Rest of the Band, are Excellent too & again, as always. One of the Reasons that the Band of the Irish Guards is my Favourite Guards Band, is that slight Maverick Streak they have, they always slip something in to Surprise & generally put a Smile on your Face. The "Mick Swagger" is known world Wide, a description Coined in the Commentary of the 2022 Trooping the Colour. They always show just a Tad of Irreverence, but don't let that fool You, they're well Trained Soldiers & they can do the Business very well Thank You. Good Morning to DM Sam Potts, the Most Energetic DM in the Household Division, Looking Good DM Potts, leading the Band of the Scots Guards out of Wellington Barracks, marching in Ranks of 5 Today, but by the Powers that's an impressive amount of Decibels they're Pumping out. OMG Mr B!! What Superb Footage of DM Sam Potts & The Band of the Scots Guard Marching out of BP, Slow March to The Men of Harlech & then Quick March to The Great Little Army!! That's the Best Footage I've ever Seen of that part of the Parade! If they Gave BAFTAs or OSCARS for these Videos, you'd be a Shoe in for Both! I must say DM Potts looked Fantastic bringing the Band out at the Slow March, every inch the Perfect Army DM & I defy any of the Naysayers to Say Different! it's a Great Job all Round, including the Perfectly timed Hand Flourish at the end of his Direction Signal. The Band of the Irish Guards were pretty eager to head up to SJP, I've never heard both Bands playing over the top of each other before, the SJP Detachment usually wait to the last rank of the Old Guards go round to the other side of the Victoria Memorial Roundabout before they leave BP. Still they're off to March up the Mall, with no Fuss. I don't think I've seen DS Chusa Sewali doing the London Palace Guards Change before, but he's bought them round & up The Mall with great Confidence & he looks as good as any of the Other DMs, including the SDM & ASDM. Well Done Sir. You expect nothing but a Great Guard Change Parade Musical Support from the Irish Guards Band & that's just what they've delivered. Oh! Quick someone Grab Delvin-Pedia & tie his leg to a Chair, if I'm not mistaken, that's Trafalgar the Irish Band have Struck up at 31:08. Delvin-Pedia will be levitating or Grabbing his Snare Drum & Joining in on his Favourite March of all. I have visions of Harry Potter & Delvin-Pedia taking off over London. Ohhh, that Bass Trombone & the Trombones Cameo, Excellent! Plenty of sound from the Rest of the Band too, when the Trombones have a wee Rest. You could not ask for anything more from the Band of the Irish Guards. I really do like Adlerflug. It has an interesting Story. Composed by Hermann Ludwig Blankenburg (1856 - 1956) in the 1800's, it was 1 of Several Marches that Blankenburg was asked to submit after having won the Prestigious Hawkes & son March Competition in1904 with his Best Known March "Deutschland's Fürsten" ( Germany's Princes) which had it's name Changed to "Abschied der Gladiatoren" (The Gladiator's Farewell) deemed more Appropriate in the Lead up to the First World War. Blankenburg is recognised as the Most Prolific German Composer of Marches & one of, if not the Most Prolific Composers of Marches in History, Churning out at least 1 March a Week for 20 years after the Success in the Competition in 1904 & he had over 500 Marches he'd Composed prior to 1904. Despite the Popularity of his Marches throughout Europe, his Marches were deemed "too Frivolous" by the German Military, especially during WW2 when preference was given to the Works of Wagner. Interestingly Many Armies in Europe Marched to his over 1328 Marches until 1 by 1 those Armies fell Silent. I can see that Mike14 would've liked Blankenburg's Work, as he favoured " ...soaring euphonium countermelodies..." & "...Bright Piccolos..." Mike14 the Resident Euphonium Expert (along with other Instruments), likes to hear his Favourite Instruments. So ends DS Sewali's First London (I think, Apologies if I've got it wrong) Palace Guard Change a Job well done, as they head off to Barracks for a Cuppa & a Biscuit. As Always Mr B, a Brilliant Video! Exceptional Footage, I still say you deserve a BAFTA! Great Sound too, Thank You as always, for taking us to London to enjoy the Guard Change! Something a little Different! How many Remember this? "They're Changing Guards at Buckingham Palace, Christopher Robin went down with Alice" And now, our own Version; "They're Changing Guards at Buckingham Palace, Mr B went down with a Camera to Show us"

Hello Vicky, I'll be brief (for once!). A couple of points:- (i) I believe the surname of the Drum Sergeant is "Siwale", not "Sewali". I say this on the basis that he subscribed to my channel about a month ago. (ii) He *has* done a number of Guard Changes at Buckingham Palace previously. I have seen at least one in autumn 2023 - there are videos but they'd take me too long to find as I don't think they were by the "well-known" uploaders.

@@MikeM14-40 Thank you Mike, I've Checked & you're quite right about the Name, the Fault was me, I'm afraid, relying on Memory instead of checking the Name in my Guide. My Apologies DS Chusa Siwale. And thank you again regarding his Previous London Appearances. I Know the Other Current DS from the Grenadier Guards has done a few, particularly leading into Christmas, but I hadn't seen DS Siwale, I must've Missed a few, in the Rush when Christmas Snuck up & Caught me out. I daresay they'll percolate up in the List again & I'll catch them then.

@@vickyRoyalHistory you’re a hoot😂but I was thinking a similar thought about Delvin and Trafalgar🤭and I thought it was just me that heard the bands playing over top of each other😳which trombonist is David Lockwood? I don’t know a bass from another

@@charlottecunningham2141 Hi Charlotte! Yes our Delvin-Pedia get's very excited over Trafalgar 😂😂. David Lockwood is the last one on the Right side of the 1st Rank, looking at them Front on. If you look at the Pipe bits that go over the Shoulder, you will see 3 lots of Pipes on a Bass Trombone, that & another way is they have a Bigger Bell (that's what they Call the Bit with the Flared top where the Sound comes out) Mike14 led me through it all, Bless him. His Twin Brother Jonathon plays the Bass Trombone in the Welsh Guards Band, he's in the same place as David, on the end, Right side. Their Dad also played the Trombone in The Welsh Guards Band & their Mum played as well, though I'm not sure if She was in the Military or not. Have a Great Week Girl!

Hi@@charlottecunningham2141 Sgt Lockwood is the trombonist nearest the camera at 16:20 - bass trombone plays deeper, growlier parts than the other trombones which are called tenor trombones.

They go back into the red tunics when the clocks change, which will be on 31st March, not long now.
@vickyRoyalHistory

Hi Emily. You're Spot on! The Athol Grey Greatcoats are Winter Uniform. The Red Tunics are Summer Wear. As Mr B says, they Change to Red Tunics When Daylight Savings known as British Summer Time Kicks in & The Clocks go Forward 1 hour to get an extra Hour's worth of Daylight. Then when late Autumn (Fall if you're American) & Winter Arrive, the Clocks go Back 1 hour & The Guards go into their Greatcoats. The Band of the Irish Guards who provided the Musical Support for the Change of Guards at St James Palace in this Video, their Regiment's Mascot is an Irish Wolfhound, known as "Seamus". He's rather Special as he is the only Mascot of the 5 Footguard Regiments in the Household Division who is allowed to Lead his Regiment on Parade. Seamus has his own Athol Grey Greatcoat, it has the 4 Button Grouping unique to the Irish Guards Regiment & a Black Collar, with the Irish Guards Crest on the Side. He always leads at the Front, ahead of the Drum Major if he's taking part in the Parade & is a Favourite with people watching the Guard Change.
