I think the idea behind the ending is to do the most with whatever time you have with the people who matter to you. If she left, she would never see Joel alive again. The lesson Riley imparted is, STAY. Whether Joel lives another two hours or two days, this time together matters more than anything else. And of course here there is actually a small chance he might make it with your help. In the last episode and now this: neither Joel nor Ellie is capable of giving up on the other ❤ My love for this show cannot be overstated.

Adding to that: I also like that riley breaks the cycle of characters not being able to bare their situations and opting to go out by offing themselves (Bill and Henry) living on is worth it. Espacially since riley keeping ellie from that brings her and Joel together because of it.

Yeah, it's implied that Ellie had to kill Riley when she turned but Ellie didn't. In episode 4 after shooting that guy in the back, Ellie tells Joel it wasn't her first time, and that she didn't want to talk about it. Glad they didn't show that, in the game or in the show.

@@NiaMakiReacts i actually really appreciate that they dont have to show it. its the same with bill and frank and them now showing us their last moments or their dead bodies; its shows some form of..giving their end privacy i guess? like we see the lead-up but the ending is their own :')

@@WarKrieg yeah pretty much^^ its supposed to be a tragedy. If i remember the correctly, i heard a quote from the creators basically saying: "Its called The Last of Us for a Reason. The World has ended, humanity is not going to make it much longer. Its over, its all gone. No more Ideologies, no more greater goods, no more Future. The only thing thats left in the End is Love. And the good and bad things it makes us do and feel." Something like that^^

This episode was almost a one for one match for the game's DLC which was also called Left Behind. Although in the game Ellie took refuge in a mall in Colorado. She looks for medical supplies and eventually finds a full medical kit in a helicopter that had crashed into the mall years before. The story skips back and forth between her looking for a way to save Joel and her night with Riley. Eventually more of those guys they fought at the university show up and you can throw bottles to alert infected so they kill each other

@0:39, I'm sure you realized while editing, but Joel's asking her to leave him there to die and get back to Tommy where he thinks she'd be safe. Also, they toned it down for the show, but the mall section is far more intense in the game. Instead of one infected runner, there was a veritable horde. But it makes sense that they'd cut it back to just 1 here, since-as Tess put it-"you're not immune to being ripped apart."

I loved the lullaby version of the Cure- Just Like Heaven. The song from the Carousel. This is one of my favorite love songs. the actual meaning was falling so deep in love with someone you are hyperventilating kissing and fainting to the floor. Running away together just like Ellie and Riley’s relationship. (Also is an 80s song so =trouble)

I think the message at the end of the episode was not "don't give up" but rather "Do not give up whatever moments of time you have left, be they minutes, hours, days, years. Cling onto those moments for as long as you can." Its not a message about how you should assume things will work out, its a message about no matter how little time you have left hold onto those moments with everything you have. At least that's how I view it anyways. Thank you for reacting to this show, I really enjoy your perspective and hearing your thoughts!

You open with "Alright, how are we getting our feelings hurt today?" TLOU: "Well, we have an entire menu prepared..." "should we have taken that thing out?" Probably not the best decision, but it was Joel's decision in the moment, and I don't know how much additional internal bleeding an tissue damage a "broken off bat handle" would do in the abdominal region while on horseback. It would have slowed the blood loss externally, but if shifting around caused it to greatly increase internal bleeding. Blood doesn't have to leave the body to be problematic, if it's draining inside the body it's really of no more use than blood leaving the body. 0:30-0:45 Joel isn't telling her to go get Tommy to help him, he's telling her to take the gun and the horse, ride back to Tommy, Tommy will take care of her. (As Bill was telling Frank in Ep3 after he'd been shot "You can't be here alone" "Call Joel, he'll take care of you." Bill didn't think he would survive, Frank didn't stop trying to save him.) Joel believes there to be no chance he lives, he want Ellie to take the horse, take the gun, head back to safety. (which honestly I don't know how long it would take her to find the place again. She's been there once, it's 5+ days, once you find the right spot to go away from the highway, you just have a general direction and no real navigation experience. I mean if you're off by 1 degree you're off by about 92 feet , 10 miles about 920, 100 miles, about 9,200 feet (with 5,280 feet per mile, it's basically 2 miles off per degree.) There's no guarantee she would even see the place at over 2 miles distance, so unless she knows multipl large landmarks to figure out where it is from all she can see, she could miss the place, then have to guess "am I upriver or downriver?" travel a day or two, turn around and travel 3-4 days It could be over 2 weeks for her to find her way back. That's assuming she even knows the way 'kind of' "Why isn't it sealed off?" Well, what she meant by this is "if it's full of infected, why is it all they did is put up signs?" 8:29-8:37 I don't know why so many reactors think when the carousel stops it's some ominous bad thing. As a rule automated rides tend to be configured that they only run a specific amount of time, an operator at the panel can "stop" the ride in an emergency or "reset the timer" so if they had someone at the control panel, it could be kept running for several hours. The default setting is "however long the owner designated for 1 ride" for a carousel, typically 3-5 minutes, but I've seen a couple that were set to 10 minutes. The automated shutoff is there so the operator doesn't have to time each ride, the stop is in case there is an emergency (someone fell and we need to get them off the carousel for attention) I felt Riley knew she was leaving Boston, but would stay if Ellie asked her to, if she felt as Riley did. So Riley set this whole "date night" up to either spend one last night making memories with her best friend who doesn't share he feelings, and say goodbye, so at least she'd know and they'd both have said goodbye, or spend this one night learning if Ellie felt the same way about her. There are hints all over if you watch for them. I can only think Riley had to think, when they are both bitten, "If I didn't need to know, and give us closure, I wouldn't have gotten her killed." And Ellie had to come out of this with the pain of discovering what she and Riley had could have been real, only to lose Riley. [Keep in mind, Ellie's bite is 3 weeks old when she meets Joel and Tess, this has been on very painful 4 months for Ellie to now be trying to save Joel from bleeding out, when he just insisted she leave him. Back in Ep 1 Marlene asks Ellie, "Was Riley a terrorist?" In Episode 1, those who knew who Riley was, knew, to those who didn't know, it was clear the name must mean something to Ellie.

@SidPhoenix2211
@SidPhoenix2211 Год назад
00:36 NEVER EVER take out a dagger or object that has stabbed you. All you will do is do more damage to yourself as it comes out, and the bleeding will worsen. A lodged dagger slows the bleeding down. Always get medical help. They can take that object/knife out properly, and simultaneously stop the bleeding.

I played through the game once. I never came back to it for reasons I'll probably explain in the comments of the next episode. But my playthrough did include the DLC. What I didn't know was if the show would include the DLC or not. I was so happy when it jumped back to Ellie's past and I realized they were going to do Ellie and Riley's date. What can I say? Even knowing how it was going to end, I wanted to see how cute the show's version of the two would be together. I can't help it. As a queer girl I always have to support the LGBTQ+ relationship representation! It's like... in the gay rulebook. 🏳‍🌈😎 Now, on to the next trauma.
