This is a Review of my Eagle Gloss Sealed floors after 6 months and then # years of use. I show the difference between one and two coats. If you want to watch my original video please check it out here, • New Garage Floors for ...
Thanks for the video. I have a 910 sq ft garage I applied it to. I was about a quart short when applying the second coat based on the application instructions. Just letting people know for reference. I then purchased more and did a 3rd coat. Every coat makes it glossier and glossier hiding roller marks. It is perfectly clear so it doesn't hide anything underneath. The third coat made it look fantastic.
John, Thank you for taking the time to share your helpful advice and keeping us posted with updates. I live in stateline area (Northern Illinois/Southern Wisconsin) and we of course have our share of snow and road salt. Have you heard from anyone who has used the Eagle Gloss Sealer that has heavy road salt accumulation? thanks again for videos, SM
Thank you so much for the comment. Unfortunately, I have not. I would be interested to know, as I would expect it to hold up well against salt and water. However, it does get slippery when wet, so an aggregate would be needed.
"if you watch my video on how to fix an oil leak, obviously that didn't work" made me laugh! Thanks for your videos! I will be sealing my new shop floor with this product in a few weeks. I'm sold!
Thank you so much for this review, John! I'm building a 24x36 shop and did not want to spend thousands on epoxy or other coatings. This looks perfect for my needs!
Thanks for doing this. I’ve been wanting to spruce up my garage floor as well but the epoxy just seemed like it was too much work and money for no return. I will be going with this option.
This is great! I've been looking for a simple solution to coat my garage floor and then add floating tiles on top. I'm in SC as well, so its nice to see results in a similar environment. Nice car collection BTW
Very good, informative video that gives folks an alternative to the twenty-step polished concrete look! The easier and cheaper route that I was looking for, to make my garage floor look better. I will have to do some more cleaning and etching, though. I believe this product will do the trick for what I want. Thank you for youtubing this. I also live in S.C. and like SVT's. I used to have a 1995 Cobra R and a 2004 Lightning and a 1968 Shelby Mustang GT500 Convertible clone. All at the same time. Don't now, though. Oh, well, at least I will have a nice garage floor!
Thank you for watching. It’s still the best thing I have done to my garages. Works great and for the price it’s a no brainer. I’m in the Aiken SC area. Let me know if you are ever in the area.
Bro!!!! you just gave the best, most informative, easy-to-understand video on sealing a concrete floor EVER!! I've watched your original video as well. QUESTION.... I'm considering doing this in my basement. i have a music studio and Photo studio area, along with a small video editing suite. Being that the only heavy duty traffic with be creative people walking on it, and not cars... i should be okay with 1 or 2 coats, right?
1 coat would be perfect but a second will make it more durable and shine longer. Thank you for the awesome comment. It means the world to me. Thank you .
Great video, thank you for making. I’m researching floor coatings for my new shop and think this is the way to go. Looking for something like the floors at a Home Depot. My previous shop, did an epoxy floor and I wouldn’t do it again. Very expensive, showed every blemish, tires marks stained and would not clean up. And fuels, if left too long, would stain as well.
HV Speed Sounds like you had a water based epoxy which is nonsensical.. you have to use a 2 part solvent base epoxy. You can do a clear epoxy or bare concrete, just acid wash it.. if this is an auto shop you *not* want this sealer. Fuel, solvents, brake parts cleaner with burn thru .
Love that you read and comment! We have a campground (purchased to create job programs for dev disabled adults) and we need an inexpensive solution to making our bunkhouse floors nicer in a budget. There are two that are 120 x 30, and even staining is exorbitant. Do you know if we can tint this to look more like a stain and then put a non slip coat on top?
so i live out in the sticks in central michigan so my vehicles are all the time bringing in dirt and misc debris into my garage, which of course ends up on the floor. currently it hardens/sticks to the floor and is a big pain to clean up. for those of you in a similar situation, did u find sealing your garage floor, as he's done w/ his, made it much easier to keep clean?
Hi John, can we get a 6 year UPDATE on your concrete floors and how the Eagle sealer is holding up? Is it time to recoat after 6 years. Watched your first video and the update a few years ago and am wondering if the product is still holding up. Thanks so much. Great videos.
I used Ecoetch on my basement floor, followed by 2 coats of Behr bonding primer and finally 2 coats of Behr gray catalyzed epoxy paint. It looks great after 4 years but I seriously doubt it would hold up to hot tires. I am thinking about some sort of garage flooring tiles
Try heating the diesel stain with a torch until it burns to ash (turns grey). You would probably have to re seal the part that you heated. Start in a small spot and wear safety glasses because water in the concrete can make it pop when heated.
@@JohnEngel Going further would be to put gas on the diesel to dilute it, light it on fire (to burn what you can) and then torch it. Also, could try sanding off the sealer and putting (slightly) soapy water on the diesel to see if the soapy water can get under it and get it to float to the surface. Let dry, then torch. Techniseal oil remover is the best product but your sealer may block it.
Thanks for the great video. I've been wanting to seal the concrete in my dogs room, but I'm not sure if once they eagle clear coat dries, does it still emit a oder afterwards?
How do you think this would hold up to rolling a jack or toolbox over it? Were you able to fix the stain created by the diesel fuel leak? Thanks again for the detailed video. I used racedeck flooring in my previous garage, it was great but way too pricey.
Toolboxes are fine to roll on them, Jack’s do create some scratches. I haven’t tried to fix the stains yet but soon I will give it a go. For the scratch’s just reapply and it looks New again.
Thank you for both your videos on this product. We're in the process of building a garage/studio. My question is in regard to my studio section. It will be used for crafting, painting, and as a design space. What is your opinion as to craft supplies, such as glue, paint, etc. and their effects on the coating. I'm thinking 2 coats would be best for sealing it. Any additional thoughts for me?
Thanks for this video. Like others I did not want to spend thousands coating the floor. I have a new garage and concrete floor. Do you think it needs to be etched before applying the Eagle sealer?
I had a little hydraulic fluid from my lift leak on the the floor a while back. It's not wet or anything and even using a solvent nothing comes up but you can see it. Will this seal over that? What is your experience with oil that was previously on the floor? What did you do? Also, some awesome cars there!
Thank you so much. If it is now dry it will the sealant will cover it but then you will have a permanent spot on the ground. When it covers a stain the stain will show through.
Question, did you have to grind or etch the slab before you applied this. Looks like you put it directly on the finished slab. I’m looking for something that will allow me to push a mop broom around my new wood shop.
Hey John! Quick question....Is it okay to use the Eagle High Gloss indoors like a basement with not much ventilation? Is their a strong smell when you're applying it? Although, I personally don't care that much about the smell when applying the sealer, because i will be doing it. I'm more concerned with afterwards.... will the floors give off a chemical/toxic-like smell? Or possibly toxic fumes that are not detectable? respiratory
Bee Gee I have done this indoors before and it will leave a strong smell for about 3 days. An open window or door with a fan is helpful. If it’s a room you stay in then you wouldn’t be able to do so until the smell is gone.
Good video, thanks for update! So is the 43rd person who comments getting a vehicle?... because that me! Haha I just bought some Eagle Gloss to do my garage here in the next few days, they need to give you a kickback for getting them New customers!
Thank you for the video. How long can oil stay on the floor before it discolors the coating? Can oil stay on the floor over winter (e.g. 5 months) without discoloring?
We lifted carpet out of the finished basement and want to seal the concrete. But wonder if we can put flooring over the sealed floors. Thinking plank flooring
Searched RU-vid for garage floor tiles came across this guy... dude has a saleen cobra... glc benz... xtype jag... bentley continental GT...then we go to the basement... rarri.... Viper... wtf... whos is this guy ? Well he sold me ill be putting this in my garage lol. If its good enough for those rides my Alpina will do just fine lmao
I have a really important question if someone were to be so kind to answer me. I am looking to Epoxy coat my garage with the rustoleum kit and I have used it before before getting my garage concrete redone. The product was good but the only pitfall of the product was that there wasn’t really a glossy shine to it and it didn’t seem like there was a layer over the base epoxy paint. I later found out that in order to get this effect you have to buy a separate clear coat over the Epoxy. Looking online I see that for a single gallon of that clearcoat from the same brand rustoleum it’s about $100. It’s likely that I’m going to need two of these cans of clear coat so that means $200. My question is, is it possible to use the rust oleum epoxy kit and then instead of using the clearcoat from rustoleum use this instead as the clearcoat over the epoxy. Thank you
@@JohnEngel yes, John appreciated the follow up update. My wife to cook in our covered back patio, but in the process she sometimes drops cooking, etc and it stained the unsealed concrete. So I end up power washing at twice a year. This is a great, affordable solution. Just wish there was a get color tint.
Is there any way to add color (Maybe food coloring?) to the Eagle product? Also does this work on outdoor concrete patio. Heavy Sun situation. Does the product need a job slip additive? Thx for your great info. Ben
Is this Eagle Sealer oil based or water based? Thank you for doing this, i was going crazy in between EpoxyShield or polycuramine RockSolid and it's just not worth it. You made my life easy to finish my garage
This Eagle gloss now costs 50% more than it was 3 years ago.. and for some reason it's not sold in Virginia. I'm going to drive down to Durham, NC to pick it up from the Home Depot down there..
Hey!! I'm trying to find a way to do this for my yoga studio, but, I do want there to be a bit of grip so people don't slip. Do you know if they can add something at home depot when I get it? Thanks!
Maybe you mentioned it and I missed it but, does this hold up well for hot tires? I'm in California, Inland Empire, and it is quite a bit hotter/dryer than South Carolina. :)
Can't you use a hand grinder on the stain and then re-apply the sealer or would it not match? PS: My dad lives in Aiken and I went to lived there for a few years.
Hi John, is the floor slippery when it’s wet at all? We use the garage as the main entrance and I can’t have a virtual slip and slide every time it rains. Thanks!
Great question. This product will definitely make it very slippery when wet. However, you can add an aggregate to the product which will help with this issue.
I would love to use this on my new driveway to stop any stains from peoples cars but it would turn it into a slippery skating rink, I wonder if sand can be mixed in to get grip ?
Great question. Yes you can add sand or silicate to the sealant and it would help with traction. The other issue would be the use of it outside. I am not sure how well it will hold up to the elements.
May have to consider this. I just put down epoxy in my living room, but I'd like a thicker coating, and epoxy is freaking expensive. Don't need to worry about gas, but we have an older dog who no longer goes outside and sometimes misses her pads. Any idea how this holds up to urine? How about scratches from shifting furniture around? I could easily do three coats with 5 gallons.
Thank you so much. It has been a great alternative for me. I don’t have any experience with pet urine but the coating will scratch some with moving furniture. The more coats the better for preventing this.
@@JohnEngel I grew up in a home that was a shrine to acquisition - everything in slip covers, runners over the carpet all that jazz. My home is not that shrine. I cam live with a few scratches here and there - especially if I can slap $100 worth of sealer on it every couple of years. I ripped out the carpets because while my carpet cleaner works really well, doing it every other day was a drag and I was concerned about moisture permeating my pressboard subfloor hence the epoxy. I ran it all the way to the bottom edge of the drywall, so a puddle can't work it's way through the gap that way either. Kitchen is the next project - ratty old vinyl floor covering. Gotta decide whether to do ripped plywood like I did in the bedroom - looks great and dirt cheap - or epoxy, or epoxy and then the clear coat. I think I could get by with just a seal cost of epoxy and then clear coat over that.
K Barton this will not. It makes everything more pronounced. So if you have spots that need to be dealt with all of that should be done before you apply this.
Been looking for a Clear coat Cover over my Epoxy Painted Garage floor. Rust oleum products did NOT WORK and I am trying to get my $$$$ back because it is like I never used anything at all??? This Product looks Awesome and will be ordering it ASAP HANKS!!!!
GOT YA THANK YOU FOR SAVING ME..... WHAT DO YOU RECOMMEND OVER EPOXY PAINTED FLOOR THATS HIGH GLOSS CLEAR? i AM STRUGGLING.. rUSTOLEUM PRODUCTS HAVE NOT COVERED AT ALL GETTING MY $$ BACK!\
I just painted my garage floor, can I add this on top to make it look glossy and protect it? Asking because all the videos I have found they put it on top of concrete not painted concrete.
i got a new house, but the garage has some blemishes and rust stain already. not sure if i should get it diamond grind for $700 and then seal it with the Eagle Gloss.. or save the money and just seal it.. what do you think?
When you coat it, it’s done. If you feel that you want it to look perfect then go ahead and do the grind. If you don’t mind the look then you can coat over it.
This is one of my favorite products for the price point. With that being said it makes things very slippery when wet. I would not do this to a driveway but I would use it for a patio.
It is possibly a little more yellow than the rest but because of how the sun hits it in the video, it makes it look much more yellowish than in real life.
I'd love to get this stuff but is it waterproof? If I used it in my garage and then washed my car in the garage would the water just pool or would it soak in like it does to the concrete?
Wow your slab cracked too, with the control joints and all? I've found that no matter what the preparations for pouring a slab include, if the planets aren't in alignment...Crack.
Ryan Hedlof Thank you and of course. It’s gone up about 10 dollars but still a killer deal. www.homedepot.com/p/Eagle-5-gal-Gloss-Coat-Clear-Wet-Look-Solvent-Based-Acrylic-Concrete-Sealer-EUC5/203075969
Thank you and great question. I live in SC and we don't have salt because we don't get snow. I am curious as well. I would love to know if anyone has used this in the north?
I think it’s kinda strange you have so many cars and clearly have the money to do a really good floor covering. Why so cheap? You have Ferraris and Bentleys in your huge house ! Lol
Lol. That’s a great question. Yes I could have spent 10-20K on flooring but I wouldn’t have the money I do if I just started paying the most for everything.
I was planning on doing epoxy but I might just go with this. I feel like the rustoleum epoxy is too cheap. Thanks for the info. BTW, what do you do for a living? 😆
@@JohnEngel wow, I'm definitely in the wrong business. You got over a mil worth of car alone. Congrats either way on your success. I'm sure you work hard for it and deserve every bit of it.
