I've been doing keto for almost 2 yes now and it's changed my relationship with food completely! Recently I've started IF (intermittent fasting) as well. It's been great for me as well! You've been through a lot my friend and it seems like you are breaking through the fog and finding your happiness again. I'm so glad and you're taking off on a new adventure but in true Carolyn style. Yay YOU!!!
Two years ago I started protein and fat for breakfast instead of carbs stopped carbs and I no longer crave sweets. I’ve lost over 60 pounds. I too feel better and look better. I say that I’m a carbohydrate addict. I can’t have a small amount of carbs or I’m off to the races. I loved all three pair of glasses on you. Thank you for sharing your life which I find enriching in my life. I believe that you’re positively impacting the lives of a number of women. Keep being your authentic self and stay safe.
We've been on keto since June of 2018 due to autoimmune issues and in addition to losing a lot of weight, hubby and I feel so much better!! We also do IF (intermittent fasting) which allows our bodies to recover......totally life changing!! So glad you're seeing similar results as you prep for your hiking adventure!!!!!
Very well put together haircut, too. Nice and smooth, not choppy. Think my favorite glasses are the blue ones, but they all look good. Oh yes, i am a bad nibbler.
Adler is my favorite, compliments the hair. Really enjoyed this video, your happiness is showing and I think that's another reason you're looking so good.
Bastian! And Yes! I do not eat after the sun sets. That way it adjusts for the winter and the summer. I feel great and it keeps me healthy and strong for long hours of physical work.
I was wearing bifocals when I was 3, lol. Wore them for most of grade school. Was able to go w/o glasses at all from about 6th grade until....gosh...my 40's(?) when I became near sighted in one eye and was still far-sighted in the other. I did the "no eating for at least 6 hours before going to bed" year before last and lost about 15-20#. I also used to run/walk a lot. Last year my feet started swelling like crazy - no pain until the swelling went down and it started hurting like crazy. I finally found out I have moderate arthritis in the mid foot; there is nothing that can be done for it. It's going to be harder to moderate my weight as a result of having to cut back on walking. I might have to shave off another hour or two in order for it to continue to work. (So glad this method is working for you as well! 😊)
Fuzzybuget, I'm glad you commented, I too had bifocals at a young age, 5ish yrs old, I had a lazy eye and had to also wear a patch, school sucked... but I got over it and am very thankful my parents took care of the issue as early as possible. You can't tell I had a lazy eye or surgery, but i am very leary of lasik and bifocals again now.
I rarely eat after 6.30 - only when circumstances pitch-fork me into it. Digestion is better, sleep is better and there's no feeling heavy and groggy the next morning. I eat nutrient-packed plant-based food only, and this means I don't crave large amounts of food because I've nourished the cells and my body tells me it's satisfied without feeling full. So as well as eating early, I eat light. Yes, you are looking extra fabulous Carolyn: fit and healthy and glowing..
The diet is called Intermittent Diet. Fast sixteen hours after your supper. Then you eat brunch. You can have snacks between your first and second meal. They recommend if you are hungry before brunch to drink water or tea. Probably coffee too. My endocrinologist told me about this and told me to do it four days a week. But since I was almost doing it anyway, because of taking morning thyroid meds, I do it everyday. But if we go to town and have breakfast that's ok. It is just once a week for groceries. I like the blue glasses.
Hi Carolyn I think both pairs of glasses look great. I’m trying something similar as far as eating goes and making sure I have at least a twelve hour fast every night if not more. Good to see you in better spirits. Loved your shirt with Capone’s sweet picture on it too! ♥️
Welcome to IF and nearly Keto! I'm a big fan of IF - oddly, it takes some of the pressure off of eating, I can't quite explain it, but good on you and good luck. You look great!
Love the Bastin tortoise shell. They are so cute. Love the sunglasses! You rock! Looking/feeling better and so much more energy! Keep truckin’ girlfriend. Namaste 🙏🏼 my friend
👍 WOW, what a cool feature getting to see how different frames look on you :) Awesome that you are sharing this with us all. I think both pairs look great. That being said, I would primarily go with which ever pair is more comfortable. Safe & happy trails :)
carolyn, i rarely comment but you look maaaavelous darling your hair, a healthy glow about you and a joy or happiness coming through your eyes! i think ANY of the glasses will look great . Whaterever your doing to look so naturally healthy,,,keep it up !
adler! quik comment...i was raised on the 80-10-10 concept with no eating after 5 or in-between meals. i've been up and down with weight all my life but i recently went back to warm lemon water first thing followed by 7 almonds... now i hope to get the rest of my day under control! proud of you grrrl
So very happy to hear you found this diet approach. I’ve discovered the intermittent diet About 4 years ago. I eat in the 8-9 hour window most often. Generally 4-5 days a week. Eat what I like. My choice of protein is eggs and fish with salad n veggies and yes light deserts. Real foods. I like the Bastian glasses. Love your wonderful smile. ❤️🙋🏻
Oprah mentioned years ago that we should stop eating after 7pm as well. It just makes sense to not fill our furnace with wood when the furnace is not fired up. The wood will just sit there and not be consumed.
For several years I have been following a keto diet, not eating, and fasting from 16 up to 24 hours if necessary. Like you my sugar (and alcohol) craving has stopped! I am twenty years your senior and have more energy than when I was your age. You go, girl!
I've started with Keto too, and lost 8 pounds in 2 months. I'm a nightowl so my last food is around 11 pm, and I have my coffee around noon. I'm not very physically active or I'm sure I'd lose more. Btw, I'm 71 years old. Hubby has 2 years until retirement, then we will get an RV and half-time it. SO looking forward to it! I enjoy your videos.
You are beautiful both inside and out. I love both pair but the 2nd ones are my favorite! I just started keto with intermittent fasting and so I was happy to hear about your experience! Excited for your PCT trip! Thanks as always for sharing your life with us! You totally inspired me to buy a van and travel for 6 mo to west coast and back last year!
I like the Adler shape and the Bastian color. I know I'm no help at all. Lol. The best part is actually the sparkle in those beautiful baby blues behind the glasses. 🧐 😍
Love those blue frames! They really suit you! The glasses company reminds me of one in the UK that have good offers. Their TV adverts are very funny too, and someone uploaded them onto RU-vid, so I enjoyed watching them all.
While the tortoise shell complements your hair, I prefer the blue clear on you. I have been wearing metal frame progressives since I found out I had glaucoma, 21 years ago. good luck with the learning curve on the progressives, you'll build up some new neck muscles .... Jim
I've gone off sugar for 1-3yrs a few times. When I would get sugar accidentally I had hyperactivity, mood swings and insomnia. I'm very careful one because going off it is hard. I can't have just a little. The rewards are amazing. Cleared out my thought process and cravings. I make sure if sugar is in something it's a trace, like 3rd or fourth ingredient. I love watching you and your adventures. Be safe
Love them all. With multifocal lenses I try to get larger frames so the lenses are larger and to me are easier to get used to. You look lovely. Enjoy! Sue in MI
Hey Carolyn, love your videos. Really love the pix of nature! You're particularly expert at those. I'm embarking on my own keto journey tomorrow. You're looking good!
My experience, no food after 5 pm, I also know this, if I put sugar in my mouth, the crave for sugar kicks in. If you don’t eat sugar, you do not crave it, at all after a few days. The Dark Chocolate doesn’t trigger my sugar response. You are right on target. Now I need to get back to it:). I also try to leave white bread, rice and pasta alone.
Raisins with walnuts when I get a sweet craving for me. The more you exercise, especially when the weather is nicer tends to curb my appetite. I don't want the carbs or high fats after a good workout. I think you're right about eating before 5, you have more time to digest and burn calories before laying down for the night. I always eat less in summer, I exercise more, perspiration is good for your skin. My skin feels the best when I perspire in the summer. Nice video. The two colors of glasses looks great on you!
Definitely gonna try the eating cutoff. Lately my insomnia has returned -- awake until 6am two nights ago, wound up feeling horrible the entire next day -- and eating earlier can help with that. Last night didn't eat dinner until 9:30p (ooops....), so maybe tonight's cutoff will be 8p, then move it up a half hour every even numbered day after that. Hugs from outside Albuquerque, on our way to Santa Fe....and then northward we go (goal is getting to Banff shortly after Labor Day)!
I got progressives for the first time (3 weeks ago) and they are "different." I feel like I'm looking through a fish bowl, but my vision is crystal clear. Good luck in getting used to yours.
Friendlies FYI as we age we need lutein/Zeaxanthin for eye health. I've been taking 20ng for 4-5 yrs. I had 20/70 left & 20/200 right eye w/ astigmatism. I've been wearing progressive(3 different scipts for near, far & reading) for 20 + yrs. When I went to eye doc for scratched cornea (unfortunately it's my better eye) I'm now at 20/-30 left & 20/70 right. My current eyesight is basically same as my old perscription glasses. Try this wonderful supplement for eye health, it works!👀👓 Thxs Carolyn for online glass company, I will need new glasses when I hit the road this year! Travel safe dear✌
Love the periwinkle colored glasses! Tortoise also cute! If you don’t eat past 5 what time do you eat breakfast? Is there a magic number of hours between meals?
Carolyn I've had exactly the same experience by changing the macro-nutrient ratios (protein, fat, carb) in my day too. It made cutting off eating (after 6 pm for me) doable, even easy. ...Isn't that sugar craving thing weird? It's so insidious and really does behave like an addiction. Once it's gone -- it's like having the light turned on in a dark room.
I sometimes try intermittent fasting to shed a few pounds. I'm a night owl though, so I don't eat after 8pm. I hear that 16 hours of not eating is a good rule of thumb for this type of fasting, so I don't eat again until 12:00 the next day. You do look really great. :)
I love the blue the first ones look like the readers I wear when contacts are out. Idermetiate fasting does work. Its how many hours you fast. I work nights so I don't eat after 7 or 6 and I don't eat till noon the next day. Your tan looks great.
I’m doing almost the same thing with my eating. I can tell if I eat something I don’t usually eat I can feel it the next day too! I have been aware of this for about 25 years and just naturally eating that way. Now it’s popular 😂 I like the alder blue too, but I like the tortoiseshell as well. You look energized. Thanks for taking us along with you.
I love the sunglasses!! I've never had prescription sun glasses, it's on my list :) I think a body also sleeps better when you stop eating at least 4 hrs before sleep, your body gets a good rest.
Loved this vid! Thanks for the tips! I really needed to hear this...for health reasons i need to take of 50 pounds and you just inspired me yet again!! I feel once im on the road and living van life im going to need better health, physically! Ive always been a hiker and camper but being a mom of 3 and now a grammy to 5, the weight was easy to keep..now im on my own and its all up to me, no more hiding in this fat suit! Love the blue glasses too but the tortoise shell ones look good too! Thank you for you!!! ✌❤😁
I thought about trying Glasses USA. I got my last pair at Costco. You inspire me Carolyn! I'm going for a little walk at the Upper Newport Bay tomorrow...after my doctor appointment....after my part time job...lol I dabble in Keto, too. I recently lost 7 lbs on the Arbonne 30 day challenge, you should check it out. The shakes are great, VEGAN and give you lots of energy!
My cravings come after five. What do you do instead? Go outside? Jumping jacks? Other stuff? I like the tortoise shell. The color beautifully highlights your hair, skin and eye color via contrast.
I like the square shape of the brown ones, but I love the blue color of the others - it goes better with your eye color. These days I'm getting colors that go with my 'au natural' grey, instead of my prior 'boxed' brown :) And the purple sunglasses are super cute :)
I like both - and they each might look better depending on time of year (tanned or pale) and hairstyle. I was thinking the blues might look better with your hair in braids or up. It's nice to have a choice.
You've mentioned 'when you quit drinking' in a few of your videos. Is this something you've struggled with & overcome? You're amazing and generous with your knowledge & experience. Thank you and happy travels!
Both look great, first pair a little better. You do look good, I noticed your skin glows and face a little thinner. Not eating after 6 definitely does work and I need to get back on that train! Struggling after the holidays but listening to you gives me the motivation!!
Of the two options I like the tortoise ones, but when I saw how much better the larger frame was on you for the sunglasses, you should definitely go for something bigger next time as larger frames suit you. What's your rx by the way?
I LOVE both pair but the blue ones make your eyes just pop! Really nice. I have NOT tried the Keto plan but do skip wheat and cows milk and that has helped me not crave junk - flour is almost as bad as white sugar so I can see why it fires up those cravings. When I worked at the food kitchen, all the alcoholics asked for 5-8 sugars per cup of coffee. Sort of makes sense - trading one type of sugar for another. They always wanted extra desserts too, so that backs up your experience. I didn't used to eat dessert but lately have been having popcorn most nights and I used butter. I'll have to skip that this week and just have more water and see if it changes things. I honestly thought my recent cravings for junk food were from the cbd oil I use for sleep. Thanks - I'll see what happens.
