Here in California I have the problems with the California Air Emmisions board. And its annoying. So what I did was I bought a 1991 gmc 3500 with a 454 TBI injected motor and it runs great. It has over 300,000 miles on it, Never rebuilt motor, and it pulls a 2014 superduty ford f 250 like nothing. Its got some power, and its gas. One more thing, Its no autoloader, its a vulcan 804 modular and its still strong. Its a workhorse.

depreciation seems to not be as much of an issue with tow trucks. i see used f650's, 2-3 years old, that were probably ~140k new, going for easily 100k.

Main advantage to gas vs diesel is actually your repair costs diesel parts are a lot more expensive we just dropped a brand new crate in a 650 for 5 a diesel is at least 12

Good points made in this video. You're right , there isn't any one recipe that applies to all start ups, each case is different. It's all about the available funds.

It is always nice to work with new equipment, but it depends on what the market is like in your area and what type of towing you are doing. If you are going to be doing a lot of motor club towing and or salvage hauling, you will run that new truck into the ground really quick and go broke doing it.

Buy a good used light duty rollback with a wheel lift if your new to the business so you can take all calls that come your way. Do the proper maintenance and don’t beat on the truck so you can get that cash flow going. I charge around 60 and 4 per mile plus tolls for basic tows and charge accordingly for extra equipment or special transports(toolboxes,motorcycles,equipment,forklifts etc)

Hey, great content. What do you think of starting up with a truck and trailer instead of a flatbed truck or wrecker?
@towuniverse2443
@towuniverse2443 5 лет назад
Your going to be limited on what you can do with it. Most companies are going to be pissed off with you doing it. If you do , do it, make sure to get the on hook coverage.

Onsite Towing and Recovery I see a lot of hate coming from companies locally because I’m on the local towing group and they alway have smart ass things to say to new guys in the business about new vs old etc I always hunt for deals and only pay cash I like to stay low overhead and keep my money
@drdieselusa
@drdieselusa 5 лет назад
@@babapapa8063 don't let them discourage you. They are just jealous that they can not get the deals you find and be able to pay cash. You have to be very business savvy to keep your operating costs low and it really annoys them to think that every call your payed off truck completes is money in the bank!

Tow trucks seem to have an independent market . You could feasibly start with a cleaner $30-40 k predef truck . Baby it , keep it clean , work it for a year and sell it for the same money you paid and buy a newer one, if you needed to expand and buy several trucks, if you wanted . An older truck seems suitable for a 1 man operation whereas newer trucks seem to work better for multiple drivers who typically tend to treat other peoples property poorly . Especially company property .

@@towuniverse2443 yeah man . I searched the last 2 weeks for a hood used truck for around 20-30 k. Everyone I found one it was sold 2 weeks - 4 months ago or some guy put money down on it yesteday. I said fuck it an applied for a fresh build on a 2023 f650 today. We’ll see if I’m approved and how much they try to rob me on the financing. It’s ford so they gotta be better than these hard money places

@@towuniverse2443 when you buy the older trucks how old are we talking and what kind of maintenance costs ?
@towuniverse2443
@towuniverse2443 Год назад
@@rapidroadsode8789 I'm a big fan of the 1999 -2003 Ford f550s with 7.3s, the internationals of that same time too. Parts are readily available still. As far as maintenance cost goes, it's tough to say. A neglected truck could bankrupt you. My 1999 Kenworth T300 has ran me about 4k in the last year. That was just a clutch and basic service. I think that's low especially on a truck that averages a 1k a day in sales. My 90 Freightliner 40 Ton, aside from the frame issues has been pretty good to us since we have put into service in January. Other than some routine maintenance, an ac compressor and belts. I'm about 1k .

@@towuniverse2443 I was looking at 2006 and earlier international 4300 with that famous dt466 or 2008 and earlier ford f650. So we see eye to eye. But I swear man all the ads on line are old as hell . And the few that were still around had rusty beds or needed motor work . By work they mean replacement ! Lol fuck I look like buying a truck 1200 miles away and needing to replace the engine before I even know what else is wrong with it cuz it doesn’t run?!
